In keeping with the newly raised bar set by oyani 's GMing of the Midway, this thread will serve as a means to alert Avalon players of things they should know of ahead of time prior to the next session in so far as where to park your toons, set your costumes, and so forth. To kick this off, for the January 18th, 2017 session of Avalon, please have your toons parked at or near the Vulcan ground map for potential away team duty.

Yes, I know this is up earlier than normal, but the Avalon session for January 25th will be lighter on plot; a "calm before the storm" session prior to the release of STO's Season 12. While there will be something GMed, I'm hoping the driving force of this session will be character bits that you all bring to the table, like what Limi and Dodi did last week. Hence why I'm putting this note out now rather than the 11th hour.

I'm glad my boat is in good hands, Norc. Don't let Kiso scratch the paint (again).

Since we had an unplanned cancellation last week and since the next episode is a continuation of our last one, here's a recap of what happened to refresh your memories (key words to remember in bold:
The Avalon has been assigned to General Karag's joint task force near the Tzenkethi front. With the Tzenkethi tied up at Eta Serpentis and Gon'cra, Karag's intelligence officer, Shishi Hsalo believes the enemy is seeking out alternative sources of protomatter and the materials to manufacture it. One such location is the Hintella system, source of a substance called perthanite and divided between two factions of the same species, the Yentellans and the Scintellians. Upon reaching the system, the Avalon detected three Tzenkethi warships on course for Yentella and when confronted, the Tzenkethi armed their weapons and told the Avalon to back off.
Here's a more detailed description of the above bolded terms, though they're not necessary to memorize:
Hintella: A star system located near Tzenkethi space, but remote enough to have little dealings with the Federation and other Alliance members. The native sentient species is humanoid, averaging around 2.5 meters tall. Their limbs are extremely thin and long enough to constitute almost 75% of their height. Their skin tones range from magenta to purple and their ears are somewhat pointed. They originated on Scintellia, the innermost of the two inhabited planets and later colonized and developed Yentella once they had the means to do so. Two centuries ago, a revolt on Scintellia drove the ruling monarchy to Yentella, which severed formal ties with their planet of origin. However, these days the two power enjoy cordial if not slightly chilly relations.
Scintellia: Birthplace of the Hintellan species now under the control of a democratic government. This planet is more heavily populated than Yentella and has conducted trade with the likes of the Ferengi and the Breen. Its current leader is Chancellor Qul, who has been in power for a number of decades thanks to a lack of term limits and a lack of any opponents of note running against him during elections. Their military, while a century behind that of the Alliance powers, is larger though technologically inferior than Yentella's. Their style of dress and architecture is understated, business-like, reflecting Scintellia's disdain for the overly elaborate and gaudy.
Yentella: Formerly a colony world of Scintellia, it became the new capitol world of the Scintellian royal family during the schism two hundred years ago. Yentella has a far smaller population than Scintellia and they are far more isolationist yet peaceful. The current ruler is Queen Thenia XVII, who only was crowned three years ago and is thus lacks experience. Their military is more advanced than Scintellia, though its size is far smaller since they serve mainly as a peacekeeping force. Their style of dress and architecture is formal, elaborate, and elegant, reflecting Yentella's royal customs and traditions.
Perthanite: A solid mineral substance used primarily in industrial applications and power generation on less developed worlds, thus having little value to the Alliance powers and their technological peers. The Scintellians export the bulk of their mined perthanite to other powers via intermediaries like the Ferengi. The Yentellans, however, do not; they instead use it exclusively for domestic power generation using a process far more efficient than their counterparts. The Yentellans also have a much larger deposit of perthanite than the Scintellians. The Scintellians naturally covet the Yentellans stockpile while at the same time fearing what it might do to their trade efforts if the Yentellans suddenly decide to begin exporting it. What makes perthanite of interest to the Alliance and the Tzenkethi is that when combined with other materials and exposed to severe gravimetric stresses such as those at the event horizon of a hypermass, it can be used in the creation of protomatter. However, neither Scintellia nor Yentella possess the means to turn their perthanite into protomatter.

For the February 22nd session, the only advanced note is to have a costume slot set to civilian attire that could be considered formal. Doesn't have to be a tux or cocktail dress, just something fancy.

As mentioned in chat during tonight's session, we'll be starting the March 1st session aboard Paig's Ferengi marauder en route to the Empress' Palace casino on Rathar III. We'll also, for obvious reasons, be using the Fleet Embassy map as a stand-in for said casino, so to make things go quicker, please park your toon near or in orbit of New Romulus prior to the start of the next episode.

For the 29 March episode of Avalon, the only advanced instruction is to begin in the lounge since the crew (and players) will be celebrating the fifth anniversary of Avalon.

For the 26th April edition of Avalon, we will be utilizing the Nimbus III map. Due to the distance and lack of transwarp, please move your characters there before the session begins.

For the 17th May edition of Avalon, we will be utilizing the Bajor: Hathon for the arrival of Admiral Valak and Vice-Proconsul Vriha of the Romulan Star Empire. Please have a costume slot with the dress uniform ready. Also, since this is a public map, all are invited to attend and please use the Local channel for the benefit of non-fleet members and other potential RPers.

In the interest of advance warning, I'll be continuing to use this thread. Thanks to norcaler for starting and maintaining it. Notes for 14 June 17: This will take place entirely on the Avalon. Fluff text to follow. Consider this episode to be a way for me to get caught up with everything.
