David Mulholland is your typical. run-ragged, trying to do his best, 25th Century Starfleet Captain. After leaving Starfleet for a mid-life crisis, Mulholland has returned to the center seat with a fresh look on life and a more open mind towards the future.
David Michael Mulholland
Born: March 4, 2361, Peoria, Illinois
Marital Status: Widower
Graduated Starfleet Academy: 2383
Promoted to Captain: 2403
Retired from Starfleet: 2411
Rejoined Starfleet: 2415
Hobbies: Gourmet cooking, gambling
Personal notes: Married Lt. Elaine Smith, a fellow officer on the Defiant class USS Ticonderoga, in 2389. With the birth of their child, Kelly Ann, in 2393, Elaine opted for a transfer to Starbase 24. On David's 2398 promotion to Commander, he accepted a transfer to the more family-friendly Galaxy class USS Venture as Chief Tactical Officer. Elaine and child were to meet the Venture as it supervised the activation of the transwarp gate; however, the transport they took from Starbase 24 was attacked and destroyed by Orion pirates. David struggled through his grief for several months before transferring back to an escort vessel, the Steamrunner class USS Vicksburg. The ship's frequent role as an convoy escort near enemy lines gave David purpose for many years. After five years as chief tactical and then first officer, David was promoted to Captain, taking command of the same vessel. In the years following, he continued to serve as a reliable ship master. Over time, the routine trips along the same routes and the lack of exploration and new experiences grew to disillusionment with his role.
Eventually, he retired with the idea of helping others in some other meaningful way. Using a bankroll of dabo winnings, David purchased a Risian cruiser, dubbing it RXS Route 66, and opening a transport business. Using contacts from his time as a starfleet captain, he was able to build a moderate operation involving freight shipping and passenger transport. In particular, he was able to scratch the itch to help others by helping supply colony worlds in the Tau Dewa region, including the development of Mol'Rihan, and the mysterious Alphaeus Colony on Nimbus III.
Once the Iconians began open warfare against the Alpha and Beta quadrants, David felt the call to return to Starfleet. He mothballed his ship and his business, and re-enlisted. At first, he was returned to the rank of commander and took planet-bound postings at the New Zealand penal installation and at Starfleet's infantry training facility for enlisted personnel. Though these assignments did not typically generate excitement, let alone breaks from the routine, he did regain his appreciation for working with a crew and leading by example.
Following the end of hostilities with the Iconians, Mulholland was promoted back to Captain and assigned to the Valiant class USS Silversides.
