Nusore Selito grew up more or less ambivalent to the idea of being joined. She aspired instead to join Starfleet and pursue a career of exploration. Her test scores for the Academy were off the charts, both in leadership and sciences. While She also rated highly for joining, she turned down an opportunity to be a host and left for Earth.
Nusore reached the rank of commander when, in 2409, she received another opportunity to become a host. She had been requested by an enigmatic and reclusive symbiont, Zando, who had refused joining for over 100 years. Intrigued by such an invitation, Nusore decided to return home for joining. In turn, Zando expressed the desire to share in the protection of the Federation, so Nusore resumed her commission as commander of the USS Fibonacci, a modified Olympic class vessel in Romulan space where she distinguished herself during the Reman/Iconian crisis, she was promoted to Captain and assigned the USS Sagan.
Oddly, the joining did not result in the usual merging of minds and personalities. Instead the pair were plagued by vague flashbacks and memories of severe pain. Months later, the reason for this problem became evident, when the Zando counterpart from the Mirror Universe appeared on DS9. Inza Zando revealed that an atrocity had been committed, wherein Terran scientists removed a part of the Zando symbiont, then cloned and cultured it to be telepathically sympathetic to its prime universe twin, thus serving as an ideal spy. Upon learning this news, Nusore's friends and Starfleet doctors performed emergency surgeries to correct the situation.
In the time following her "rejoining" Nusore and Zando have merged more completely, though some gaps and scars remain to be healed. She discovered love with a friend, Captain William Huxley, whom she married soon after, and for a while, life was good.
A few months later, the Terran version of Huxley appeared on the scene, causing havoc across the sector after stealing a ship. Inza, who had worked out a deal with Starfleet Intelligence, was brought in to assist with his capture. With some difficulty in taming her mixed loyalties, she was able to get him to stand down. However, as her one time handler, Huxley was able to get inside her head, and she soon arranged his escape from custody. She went underground soon after.
Several months later, the two reappeared, capturing and replacing the prime universe's Huxley and Nusore. The ruse worked for several weeks, the only outward signs that something might be wrong were occasional mood swings and illness on the part of "Nusore." In fact, Inza had become pregnant, a fact that she attempted to hide to her detriment, and nearly to the child's. Her commanding admiral, a doctor, surreptitiously scanned her, discovering the pregnancy and the lack of a symbiont, and the plans were laid for her capture.
The plans need not have been elaborate, however, as Inza soon went into premature labor. Knowing she could no longer dismiss any differences, she divulged her identity and the location of Nusore, under the condition that her child would never be given to the Terran Huxley. The powers that be agreed, and once the real Nusore and Huxley were recovered, they formally accepted and adopted the girl, Mara, as their own.
Both the terrans were incarcerated, though Inza's transport from DS9 to Earth was intercepted and destroyed by a Borg probe.
Nusore soon settled back into life as a ship commander and mother, seeing Will Huxley as often as their schedules permitted. Before long, Nusore became pregnant with her own child. She began to consider taking a leave from Starfleet, when Fate struck a new blow. Will's ship, the USS Requiem, disappeared during a patrol of the Badlands.
She ordered her ship into the Badlands to sweep for any sign of the Requiem, but it was the 146th fleet that found, not her husband's ship, but another Requiem from a different universe. The Will Huxley in this dimension had reached and retained the rank of admiral, but was a hardened and caustic personality. Nusore was emotionally drained by the idea that her husband was gone, only replaced by a shrill visage of the same. She distanced herself from this other Huxley, and focused on keeping busy with calculations to send him home.
Eventually, the coordinated efforts of the 146th helped to propel the alternate Requiem back to its own universe. Nusore, soon accepted that her Will Huxley was gone. She gave birth to a son, naming him William, Jr., in her husband's memory.
Will was not completely gone, however. Another Starfleet vessel encountered a small, dysfunctional party of borg drones on a patrol. They were able to subdue and capture the drones, with the idea that they could be liberated. It was soon discovered that Huxley was one of the drones.
This news was equal parts blessing and curse for Nusore. Her husband was alive, though his memories were trapped, and his instincts corrupted by time in the collective. Despite the advice of her friends, who suggested that exposure to his family could help pull him out, she retreated from him. She thought that she needed to protect herself and her children from harm and shame. It wasn't until Will began to reassert himself in other ways that she relented, and began to allow him back into her life.
Unfortunately, his recovery was short-lived. He regressed to a fully assimilated drone. Nusore asked that he be placed in stasis until such time that the liberation process could be attempted again.
