"First officers log."
"Republic command has decided to transfer me from the Ra Cailum to the Devoras. I will not deny any excitement at being posted to a Feaht warbird, but the Ra Cailum was more than just a ship to me. I was born in it's medical centre, I camped overnight in hydroponics, it's crew were my friends, family and teachers...It was my home."
"That said, the Ra Cailum would not have aquitted itself the way the Devoras did in our latest...engagement. We responded to a call from Starfleet's U.S.S. Avalon...a vessal of some fame, and more than a little notoriety to the Romulan Empire. They were engaging Borg vessals assaulting a colony world. Under the regulations and agreements of Special Operations Taskforce Omega, we and other vessals responded. To say the battle was one sided would be a lie. Ships across the battlegroup sustained substantial damage from the Borg Cube. A single, Borg Cube."
"Compounding against us were the incapacitation of the captain and hostile boarders aboard the Devoras..." the voice seems to trail and crack from here on. "There couldn't have been more than fifteen...Maybe twenty Borg...But they still managed to fight into and secure Engineering from us...Just as we were preparing to detonate the Singularity Core in the event of assimilation..."
"We lost...Six? Seven...Seven security teams trying to fend them off...That's thirty-five crewmen and woman...Death was a mercy for some of them, though...Having now seen the assimilation process...I pray to never see it again..."
"The ship was eventually secured...Borg not killed outright were herded to outlying sections and vented into space...And I do not condemn our allies caution...Before we lost power, sensors marked that atleast two vessels had us on target lock. One identified as the...I.K.S. mupi...no, mupwI'nach...The other was of unkown configuration to us..."
"After managing to belay any fears of takeover...We made to Starbase 146 to offload the crew in preperation for calss one omicron sweep to purge any and all nanite activity...Aboard the starbase, I met with a subadmiral...who's name escapes me, at this moment...I will aquit this lapse to the shock of first encountering the Borg."
"The subadmiral praised our dedication and devotion to the battle, but I still feel more could've been done...We were too complacent...Starfleet and the Klingons...They no longer see the Borg as a threat. They are wrong. The Borg are a hive...And like any hive, pushing them to the brink of destruction will only galvanise there resolve to expand...To conquer...To assimilate those besting them and grow stronger for it. We forgot we are but one front on Borg Expansion...And we almost payed for it."
"Computer, end log."
