Captain's log: Stardate 92893.03129
The U.S.S. Avalon was ordered back to Starbase 146 to turn over Mr. Garrison to base security pending his prosecution, as well as to effect a personnel transfer. We received our newest helmsman aboard, one Lieutenant Anjohl, who came highly recommended by his previous commanding officer. His welcoming aboard was overshadowed by a surprise inspection by Vice Admiral Starsinger, who had been concerned with some things discovered in reports of previous deployments. A private conference was ordered between the Admiral, myself, and Commander Seventeen of Twenty-five, during which her concerns were voiced. These concerns, combined with a conversation between the Commander and myself, resulted in the decision to put the Commander on medical leave pending resolution of the situation. Out of consideration for the Commander's privacy, the specifics will not be repeated here. All relevant details can be found in the Admiral's record and the Commander's medical record.
Upon completion of the personnel transfers and re-provisioning, we will await our next deployment order, which will likely be related to the as-yet unexplained order to install a cloaking device in our Aquarius escort.

Captain's log: Stardate 92931.4002
Avalon was ordered to investigate the sudden loss of communication from Terra Nova. It was believed that piracy may have been involved. Precautions were taken to bolster Avalon's defenses against the apparent methods being used to disable ships; they appear to be utilizing stolen command codes. I arranged for a new, more complex command code sequence just prior to arrival. Misters V'arek, T'Mith, and Dynair created a virtual-machine 'honeypot' to try to lure and misdirect hacking attempts. Mr. Anjohl maneuvered the ship in order to use one of its moons to obscure sensor readings.
Upon arrival, the crew discovered numerous disabled vessels with crew still aboard, and unknown looters in EV suits with Orion and Nausicaan transponders. An attempt to pursue caused the subjects to retreat, rendezvousing with three decloaking Birds of Prey. Attempts were made at a non-hostile resolution, and hailing frequencies were opened. The being that answered the hail only referred to itself as 'Legion', and disputed the validity of Federation law.
Unfortunately, hailing the vessel opened an attack vector, as Legion attempted to perform a 'piggyback' entry into our systems via the signal carrier. Mr. V'arek's quick reflexes saw to it that the comm system was put through a cold restart, eliminating the invading code. The attacking vessel deployed some form of gaseous disabling agent, causing Avalon to respond sluggishly to helm control.
It was not until the hacking attempt was under way that I discovered Avalon had encountered Legion before, and that it used similar tactics at the time. I have asked Ma'reQ to give me a report detailing this encounter and the being's known capabilities and motives. Mr. Dynair is analyzing the disabling agent in order to best advise Engineering on how it can be removed. All survivors on the disabled ships in-system were beamed aboard, and I will be sending my report to Starbase 146 with my theory that this 'Legion is responsible for the piracy incidents, and to request further orders in dealing with this incident.
