Unfortunately, due to a RL scheduling conflict, our prior GM Spots will be unable to continue to do so. Fortunately, the bulk of the crew including myself, Slinky, Kiso, and Miller have had prior GM experience and Oyani has voiced in interest in trying her hand at GMing. If you, be you one of the crew or someone who likes borrowing other peoples toys, wish to GM, please express said interest in this thread. For the session on 11/28/2016, I can fill in on an emergency basis if no one else volunteers.

I'll take 12 Dec 16. Not enough time for 28 Nov, and I think I'm going to be gone on 5 Dec.

I'll reiterate my interest in GMing at some point if there is a possibility to receive guidance in the role. (And it will depend if you or the other GMs think it's appropriate for a relative newcomer to pursue this field. At any rate, a hand is raised for future consideration.)

Oyani, message me next time I'm in game. Personally, I don't believe that one's experience makes them qualified to GM, rather it's the willingness to take on the roll and the creativeness to tell a story.

So, with the November 28th session postponed, either we can have someone go in a week or I can run the idea I was going to tonight.

Still no one penciled in for December 5th. I have a backup emergency idea I can run if no one else will, then it's Miller time on the 12th.

It would be presumptuous of me to wave my hand prior to HS' and Millers' GM tutorial on Thursday. (Plus I'm going to be a bit late on Monday, but I'll post those details in the proper thread.) But to get the ball rolling, can we schedule a time when I can screw up an entire GMed session give it a bash if and only if you fellas are willing to permit it? (I do not want to tread on toes here.)

I say go for it. I kinda fell into GNing by dint of pitching ideas to the then current Avalon GM and would occasionally do guest GM sessions when he was busy or couldn't think of ideas. There's no wrong way to do it, though my best advice is to find some you think is a good GM or story teller and bounce your ideas. I'd offer to do so but Kirk era is one of my least watched ones. I'm better at TNG/DS9 styles.

For sure, HS, thank you muchly for the excellent advice. And just to clarify, my hesitation was less about me giving it a bash but, rather, not pushing myself in front of a queue if there are other players who want to pencil themselves into a GM session. I'm hyperconscious of the fact that I am still trying to get a grips on the basics of ship RP so there are, of course, questions of my RPer legitimacy at play in my humble opinion. In other words, without going full Vulcan, I want to be considerate to the needs of the many than the needs of the one!

Oyani, when in doubt I have a very applicable motto I live by when it comes to GMing:
Fuck it, we'll do it live.
That is all.

Good advice but I prefer the showbiz adage of the seven Ps: Perfect Pre-Production Prevents Piss Poor Performance. You never want some fella carking it during a live show. (Been there, done that.)

When in doubt, go with Murphy. No plan survives first contact with the enemy intact. I have nevet planned a session ahead of time, my method is improv.

Okay, then, to follow Miller's, Norc's and Chris' suggestions: "Fuck it, we'll do it live."
If no one from the crew objects, put me down for the 19th. (I'm aware that this is getting dangerously close to Xmas, although it doesn't seem to coincide with other religious celebrations--I guess we see who will show closer to the time?)

In the spirit of open inquiry, players are free to /tell me in game or message me here about what worked or didn't work last night.

It was good. You made use of what you had, improvised to cover what you didn't, and kept the story engaging. You managed to keep all players engaged and relevant, and that is a serious challenge. An excellent story.

Very kind, Miller. And any critique-including negative-is welcome. I'm used to these kinds of critical evaluations.

I'm afraid I won't be able to help much in terms of negative critiquing...I also thought that there were a lot of positives to the experience, even if I did come in late. I agree with Miller and I appreciate being included, which is something I thought you did very well (even though I understand the urge to shoot me must be pretty strong, just ask Miller...haha).
I don't know if it was intentional or if there is going to be more to the cliffhanger ending, but I thought the realism of being asked to leave despite the willingness and ability to lend aid to the two lone figures was something that really touched on a point that might not be commonly explored: the fact that it might not always be possible to help others. Coming from me, it was at turns frustrating and impressive. Impressive that you were able to evoke such frustration and impatience for the continuation of the cliffhanger.
I personally look forward to seeing what you having coming up. Thanks for putting the work and the effort into an engaging story.

Actually, I had you down in my notes to shoot from the get-go. I guess I picked up those GM'ed homicidal tendencies from Miller. Thanks for your lovely thoughts: very kind. Too kind. The cliffhanger was norcaler 's idea, so I want to underscore his credit where credit is due. Hopefully, and with permission, I can GM more eps until Spots returns so I can get the hang of the systems and conventions that the GM position entails.
