That decision was made by the GM. I can only guess on the reason. Fair enough. I'm sure everyone will get their fair share of the spotlight their characters deserve. The Spotlight is something we all need to be very careful not to try and hog too much of. As tempting as it is to have John"Tiberius" Sanders Or Tiana"Lafeiette" Rastalon save the galaxy every week, we all (Myself included) need to be contious of out fellow members of the fleet. With this in mind I suggest each of us pick another member, get to know their back stories and a few details and try to come up with something which would put that character in the spotlight It need not be anything huge, but it would make other members feel like they're making a larger contribution to the overall Fleet's Rp continuity. I think for the coming season it should be "pick on Six of One" week XD.

I agree with what Sunleaper said, though in a fleet this size it can be very difficult to do. When I was the GM of the Avalon, I very much tried to run it like The Next Generation. Not every episode was about combat, or discovering something new. I also tried to do my best to give situations where certain characters could shine. One episode might have focused on Fearos in engineering, while another was on Rin back when she was in Astrometrics. Still another was more focused on Medical.
If we want to try and give others the spotlight, something as simple as focusing on individuals on our RP ships is a good start. Emulator, as the GM of this Dyson Sphere RP could talk with a few of the captains of ships that /aren't/ focused on in RP, and give them a little nudge, and a bit of attention.

Sorry, took me a bit to respond, I read through the thread. I thought the thing about the Voth being way op was established because of "doctrine" they're advanced but have plateaued because of the doctrine they followed as stated in the dev blog.
Kinda how they explained the time ships not being as powerful because the Tholians striped them.
What kind of evolvement can we expect for fleet members during this event? Will players feel like their actions contribute to the story or will they just be considered tagalongs like past events?
Perhaps To avoid people hijacking the story ensuring players have something to do that is engaging is something to be considered.
Ignoring the rp rather than deleting a character sounds much more reasonable, I'll be honest I thought the delete comment was a joke at first. Lol

Btw well said Ayche, that's something I tried to do in my GMing too, always had an a plot and B plot, a was focused on the department I wanted to give the spotlight to and the B plot was for the remainder of the crew. This is a standard Star Trek storytelling formula.

Okay. I've spoken to Geralyn who supports my views on this issue:
1. Anyone can visit the sphere to explore, but not in an RP environment until Emulator's fleet-wide event.
2. We will use Emulator's event as a kick starter for the fleet's interaction with the sphere, but there will be no more RP ships or characters monopolising elements of the new facility for their own storylines and excluding access to other fleet members or RP ships.
Finally, if it's 'the will of the Fleet' I would like to see the results of a poll on this forum to support such statements, or don't make them.

...I think for the coming season it should be "pick on Six of One" week XD... Hey! No fair... The incredible irony here? Six of One was designed originally as a passive/reactive, versus interactive, personality, which when coupled with the usual "Eek, a Borg!" reaction, would result in people giving her a wide berth. This was intended to allow me to observe others' RP, to get a feel for how others responded to various types of stories and ideas without interrupting or intruding directly. Then a bunch of people decided they wanted to figure out what made her tick... Now she's pretty much my main, at this point.

Thank you, Pathfinders, for sealing the deal in an official capacity so we can move forward with Season 8 (sans flashy new interiors *grumble*). I'll be popping on Tribble a few times over the weekend to get a sneak preview.

After fiddling around on Tribble, I can safely say there's plenty of RP fodder for RP ships and individual vessels like how Rin's been Rping missions. You never know, maybe the Avalon and Exodus might swoop in to take down a Voth city ship if the fleet needs help...
...all right, I know at least one of those two ships will be doing it to get marks for the Dyson space set.

Excellent. Bring the Avalon so I can show it up in my itty bitty Jem'hadar ship, Norcaler! I totally support what Vasco and Geralyn said too, although it's still a little distressing that we had to be called in to make a judgement call on this.

First off, this was my idea... an idea I used in tabletop games to get people to stop doing stupid things that could ruin the campaign.
Why did I suggest it, and what was the reasoning behind it? Let me explain:
1) Low chance of success - acts as a major obstacle to the players to even attempt, to make the player think "hey, maybe this isn't a good idea."
2) Complete agreement by all players on the RP ship, with one negative vote ending it - it's called "peer pressure"; that one person better be pretty damn persuasive to have all the other players agree to the action and its consequences.
3) Randomly killing one character - that's actually a cop out by emulator... if all players agree to this, then they are all willing to let their character die and the action can result in a TPK (Total Party Kill)
4) Using /e rolldice - GMs can and do often "fudge" rolls behind the GM screen to try not to kill their players' characters... this is the MMO equivalent of the GM making all attack and action rolls in full view of the players (and yes, GMs also roll critical success rolls in trying to kill player characters behind the GM screen, yet they still live... why? "Fudging" that crit to NOT be a crit).
5) Character deletion - because you can't just take the player's character sheet in an MMO when the character dies.
As a GM, you have to put your foot down on some things, or else you get trampled by the whims of your players. And it's a sad state of this fleet that I even had to suggest this to emulator in the first place just to get everyone to play nice together so that we can do something together as a fleet.

Indeed it is sometimes required to put your foot down in front of your players but not in front of ones who did not consent to be your players.
I did not say this to be anti-emulator, I said it because these ambiguities end up causing major drama later unless everyone clear the agreement.
P.S. Not that it really matters but I'm strictly against roll fudging ,if you don't want the roll to have any consequences why roll at all? its just lying to the players and when that lie gets uncovered the GM loses credibility.

Well, y'all can count on Cpt. Gardner and the Passchendaele to bring some possible firepower to the equation, if you'll tolerate my first-time-out-of-the-gate-ness on this *g*.
Edit: Or not. forgot, had a Shadowrun game tonight. DOH!
