"Chief Astrometrics Officer's Log, Stardate 88218.2
I have now completed the final details of my transfer on board the USS Avalon, flagship of the Beta Ursae Defense Force and have assumed my position as the new Chief Astrometrics Officer. Considering my distinct needs, I have also ensured to initiate the proper requests on adjustments for my accommodations. A temporary Regeneration Alcove will be installed within the Astrometrics Lab until one can be installed in my quarters that have yet to be assigned. However I am considering keeping that Alcove permanently installed to better facilitate interface contact with the Lab's systems while in regeneration. I have also begun to initiate direct interfacing with the Astrometrics system as the first step to increase ship efficiency. At the same time, I also conducted a short examination scan of the Transwarp Coils, with authorization from the Chief Engineer. Examination resulted in the Transwarp Coil being in proper condition for use. However, there are other examinations I would wish to execute. Requests for such procedures will come at a later time. Merely one hour after I boarded the Avalon, I had a contact with a crew member which could be qualified as 'troubling'. The female Caitain Ensign reacted in fear when she saw me and almost initiated defensive actions. However she was quick to reassess herself. As I delivered my medical logs to Sickbay, I briefly saw the same Ensign again in Sickbay. Judging from my short visual analysis, the Ensign had come to Sickbay to relieve herself from her shock at our first encounter. Whenever the Ensign will be able to adapt to my presence remains to be questioned. My presence on board of the Avalon was an inquiry I brought upon Captain Hunter when I met him on Deep Space Nine. While he claimed that he would not have people to hold grudges on his ship, I am fully aware of how chaotic and conflicting each and every member of a starship may be. Should any sort of altercation happen because of a grudge from an crewmember, I will act as necessary. It did not escape me that Captain Hunter seemed highly diligent on granting me the position of Astrometrics, but also access to all Transwarp and Quantum-related drives on board the Avalon. Of course, considering that it was the Borg who developed the Transwarp technology that the Federation is now using, and that I am a former Drone, it is easy to conclude that Captain Hunter wishes to make use of my former Borg Collective knowledge of Transwarp application. Therefore, I will fulfill this wish and perform my duties on board the Avalon with utmost efficiency. End log."
Chief Astrometrics' personal logs, Stardate 88233.1 There has been several unusual events as of late.
One of them is that Nurse Liana seems to have entered an unusual 'heat state' that would be common for her race. The problem seems to have been rectified with some assistance, but it is clear that this is a condition that cannot be entirely suppressed. The closest 'state' that is similar to her 'heat state' would be the Vulcan pon farr. However details of her condition have been transmitted to the Avalon medical officers. It will be left to them.
Second unusual event was the encounter of a Gorn designated S'lepp. This Gorn's mental capabilities appear to be below average. Furthermore, it would appear this Gorn is held captive in a slave-like fashion by an Admiral-ranked Romulan that is serving in Starfleet, commanding the USS Phoenix. The Gorn is subjected not only to electrical shocks when misbehaving but also has limited food nourishment consisting only of water and bread. According to a Gorn trader I met, lack of complete nourishment could explain S'lepp's lesser mental state. During our encounter at Quark's with S'lepp, I was able to deactivate the electrocution collar's program and erased all of its electronic programs. This should grant S'lepp a delay for punishment. Although it is clear that in his submissive state, he will not rebel against his 'owner' so easily. Apparently Captain Jason Hunter would know of S'lepp and the Romulan Admiral. I will see to contact him as soon as possible on this matter. Last, but not least, my first unusual matter. My life has been threatened about a week ago.
A human named Searuis, also carrying a designation of Enforcer, delivered to me a message in which contained the order for me to sample DNA from the crew of the Avalon, because the ship is apparently considered at risk. Refusal to comply would mean apparent termination by the Enforcer. Further discussion with Searuis would reveal that he apparently works for Section 31, a secretive Federation organization bent on assisting the Federation through unconventional means. However I have noted several factors that would contradict his claims.
1. Section 31 has never resorted to the threat of killing a Starfleet officer, nor have they resorted to killing one in relation to the subject in question. Searuis bears scars and wounds from his own defiance, and the fact that his ship is crewed only by photonic officers was a hint that he lost his own comrades due to his defiance. 2. Section 31 is a highly competent organization that has excellent information-gathering means. The orders I have been 'given' would require me to be in a medical position on board the Avalon. However I am stationed as the Chief Astrometrics Officer. Therefore Searuis' organization's intelligence-gathering abilities are not those of the actual Section 31. 3. Section 31 would resort to secretive and discrete means to contact me with such orders. The fact that Searuis contacted me with those orders when we were in Quark's demonstrate a considerable lack of subtlety in the matter of secret orders. These facts lead me to conclude that Searuis is not part of Section 31. It is possible however that Searuis is unaware of that fact and is forced to work for an unspecified organization. Both Captain Hunter and Hromar were informed on this matter, and DS9 security has been notified. Should Searuis attempt to recontact me when I am in Quark's or proceed with attempting to terminate me, DS9 security will be able to take action and arrest him, along with locking down his docked ship should the opportunity arises. However, I am willing to explore alternatives to uncover whenever Searuis is a hostage and attempt to assist him. End log

Chief Astrometrics' Log, Stardate 88239.4
Approximately 15 minutes ago, there was an explosion in one of Deep Space Nine's elevators. One officer was injured and has been transported to Sickbay for immediate treatment. Initial observations seem to lead to the bomb being originally meant for Captain Hromar, commander of Deep Space Nine, but fortunately he was not the victim of the bomb.
While I am not the commanding officer of the Avalon, I immediately sent the order to the ship to scan Deep Space Nine for any additional bombs on board the station. Scan results so far seem to reveal none. However it is possible that additional bombs could be present on the station, but still in their diverse components. I have returned to the Avalon to begin a direct interface with Astrometrics sensors in order to pinpoint the location of any potential bomb component on board Deep Space Nine. End log.
- This log has been heavily encrypted with a complex series of Borg algorithms - Chief Astrometrics' Personal Log, Stardate 88276.3 The Avalon was scheduled to deliver medical supplies, or Invirian Measles to Versha Minor in the Dorvan Sector. However the mission was unexpectedly altered with the arrival of a Q entity on board. The Q entity requested our help to recover his subunit which had apparently caused disturbances with the Organians.
To force the Avalon to comply, Q transported the totality of our medical supplies to Versha Minor and had it applied instantly to the planet, thereby ending the medical crisis. Following that, the Avalon set course for the Organia system, although Q also accelerated the ship's speed to hasten the travel. Unexpectedly enough, the Organians were highly diligent in desiring the Q subunit to be removed from their custody. Thus she was easily retrieved with minor difficulty, and we set course back for Deep Space Nine. Considering the sensitive nature of the Q Entity, this file is now deemed classified. Should anyone be able to somehow decrypt my algorithms, they should consider themselves under arrest for decrypting classified information. And I will be aware of it. End Log.
Chief Astrometrics' Log, Stardate 88295.4 This could be my first mission on board the Avalon where I generated an unwanted disturbance.
The Avalon was tasked with going to the Gamma Quadrant in order to contact a group of Ferengi ships that were, according to the Dominion, illegally present in their space. The Avalon was to convince the Ferengi to leave peacefully. However as we passed through the Wormhole, we were struck with a gravimetric distortion of considerable size which disabled most of our systems and left the ship heavily damaged. The entire crew scrambled to repair the ship. In my part, I mainly assisted in keeping our shield frequencies to match the waves and use the thrusters to help the ship slowly 'ride' the waves out of the Wormhole. And in order to do so better, I had to directly interface myself with the ship computers. I will consider an extended regeneration period in order to help 'clear the mind', as humans would say, from this experience. To be honest, this is mostly due to assist my neural pathways in restabilizing themselves from the interface. Under normal circumstances, I do not interface so deeply into the computer systems, therefore additional regeneration is a personal observation I have made that is required to better facilitate recovery. However, I anticipated possible hostility from either the Ferengi or the Dominion. In order to prepare for such possibility, I wanted to establish a plan to use myself and as many telepathic-capable crew members to form a temporary collective presence so we could use our combined bio-neural energy to effectively repair the ship. Considering that the Avalon was built using reverse engineered Borg technology, it made this task even more possible to succeed. However, this is where I failed to act in the proper manner of a Starfleet officer. I did not consulted with superior officers and sought to have the telepathic crewmembers report to me on the bridge. My plan was to use temporary neural transcievers so that the telepaths and myself would be able to act together. Considering that telepaths are familiar with connecting their minds to another, I determined that the impact of this short collective union would not have as much impact as if I had done so with normal crewmembers. However, it is clear that this was procedure that may not have been appropriate. On a moral point of view, my request was perceived negatively by the crew. When the Captain learned of my intentions, he ordered me to terminate my interface. I complied with the order. Shortly afterward, the councilor wanted to speak to the Captain about my behavior. However I found this unnecessary, and requested to directly speak with the Captain on that matter instead of having some intermediate doing so. The Captain was angered. Most likely furious at my actions. He wanted me not to repeat such breach of chain of command again. I will comply with that order. Although I can note there are certain Starfleet protocols that justified the reasoning of my actions in the matter of the emergency the Avalon was. It is obvious he doubted the safety of my plan, as did everyone else. But I had already anticipated the risks, not to mention having prepared several safeguards to ensure that my plan would not backfire, or worse, accidentally contact the Borg Collective. *17 then goes on to bring out a long complex series of precise explanations about all the various safeguards and countermeasures 17 of 25 had planned and prepared for her plan. It was clear she had taken into account all risks related to her idea*
Still, even with those safeguards, I assume that Captain Hunter may not be entirely certain of the validity of my plan. I will not press that matter any further. He refused to apply this order and it will be left as it is. Considering that the Avalon has been able to return safely to the Alpha Quadrant along with the Ferengi, that plan would have proven unnecessary in the end. But as a Starfleet officer, I must be prepared for any possible situation, and thus be ready for anything.
I admit this is not the first time I have been in such a situation. When I served on my previous, and first ship, the USS Liberation, there were several situations which brought me in direct confrontation with the captain. For example the case of one Lieutenant assaulting me because I am Borg, and that I had restrained him using Borg nanoprobes.
Although Captain Baahnil, a Tellarite, was clearly furious at me, I continued to serve under his command as necessary. I can also say that without his actions and suggestions, I would not be on board the Avalon now. His opinions of me ultimately changed, even commending that I could make a great officer. Although I do wonder if this can be true or not. The Avalon is my very first position on which I am stationed as a senior officer. This is undoubtedly a new experience for me. I wonder if I am afraid that I may have severely failed myself and the Avalon with my recent conduct. Although this would be almost impossible. I know my cortical implant suppress virtually all of my emotional capabilities. But I suppose it does not impeded absolutely all of my emotional capabilities. ...I suppose that one way or another, I have no other choice but to comply with whatever orders Captain Hunter will have for me. Although he did made a mistake in reprimanding me in his ready room. I am not the Chief Science Officer. I am the Chief Astrometrics Officer. I am only on the bridge due to replacing Commander Sibak in his absence. A small detail that might be irrelevant though...although this has made me realize that if this continues in this path, I may end up becoming the official Chief Science Officer on board the Avalon. Would I be capable of such duty? I am Borg, and therefore I am efficient. I cannot allow myself to fail the Avalon. End log.
Chief Astrometrics' Log, supplemental Captain Hunter spoke to me again tonight. We discussed briefly about my past history with the Borg and my rehabilitation by Starfleet. And what resulted of this conversation was that he had intended to promote me to the position of Chief Science Officer since some time now. Although my recent action could have potentially hampered my promotion, it ultimately did not do so. Thus as of now, I am now the Chief Science Officer of the USS Avalon.
When I joined in on board the ship, it was my intention to perhaps take on a small senior officer position to enable me to learn more about that position, but I certainly didn't expected to take on one of the bridge position so quickly. Captain Hunter is highly willing to trust me, despite my error earlier today. I will not fail him, nor the Avalon. I will prove his trust is not misplaced. End log.
Chief Science Officer's Log, Stardate 88314.72602739725
The Avalon has returned inside the Wormhole in order to begin investigating further into the matter of the gravitational disruptions which heavily damaged the Avalon on our last mission. I adjusted sensors and deflectors accordingly for the mission in order to map out any pattern in the waves. Ultimately the sensors have been able to record a complete pattern in the wave. However while the initial shield adjustments were working, larger gravimetric waves still posed a problem. But this was something I had anticipated and I had prepared a countermeasure using the deflector dish to generate a graviton wave shield. Knowing that graviton energy can interfere with wormholes, and even though the Bajoran Wormhole is virtually impossible to destabilize, I did not wanted to take any risks. Therefore I designed that method to generate a wave of graviton energy that would be held in place by our shields once it is generated. It worked as expected and reduced the impact of the largest gravimetric waves to nothing. When you learn, you are able to adapt. Something to expect.
The Avalon also discovered the derelict remains of a Dominion ship within the wormhole. Not only was it severely damaged and empty of any life forms, one of its drive nacelles was leaking the Dominion's equivalent of drive plasma. Commander Fearos went on board the damaged ship along with a repair team and a military escort in order to stop the leak and enable us to tractor the ship back to the Alpha Quadrant.
The mission was a critical success, considering that we not only completed our orders, but also discovered the source of the disturbances. While it is unknown yet how long it will take for the wormhole's gravimetric waves to stabilize to its original state, the graviton wave shield system I have developed can be used by any ship that will have to pass through the wormhole in order to avoid serious damage. My report will also include details on the wave shield along with the scan results for the gravimetric waves. When the mission was over and that Captain Hunter went off the bridge, he gave me bridge command as he left, since Commander Gathis and Liana were absent from the bridge. I admit this was unexpected. And while my initial tasks were merely to authorize the current bridge officers to be relieved of their posts, following with the rest of the night shift, it was an...unusual experience. This was my first time that I would be allowed to take the bridge, even if short. Captain Baahnil told me that, and I quote 'that you'd make a damn good captain if I'd get my mind to it'. I do suppose that is it a possible feat for me to accomplish. Although for the time being, there is no need for me to be the captain of the Avalon. Captain Hunter is well established and in excellent condition, as are Commander Gathis and Liana. Which makes me the 4th in the chain of command on the bridge. ...An irrelevant though. I am efficient enough already in my current position. But to continue to better myself would no doubt be an acceptable thought. ...although that chair was more ergonomically efficient and appropriate for my back than the standard bridge chair. I suppose it was...comfortable? End log.

The Avalon has gone through a patrol mission which has led to an unexpected encounter with Cardassian cargo ships that were attacked by Romulan ships most likely affiliated with the rogue General Tomalar.
6 Romulan ships were on the battle, 4 Bird of Preys and 2 Warbirds. The Avalon was fortunately joined with the Kusanagi and the Copeland in their escort. However the Copeland's sensor deficiencies made it a vulnerable target to the Romulan when they attacked as we arrived on the battle site. We were however followed by the Reclaw who brought us assistance against the Romulan. Using one of the collapsing Cardassian cargo ships and a suggestion from Lieutenant Commander Fearos, we used the tractor beam to crash the wrecked ship into an escaping Warbird, disabling it. But one of the escaping Bird of Preys destroyed the Warbird before leaving. We have however been able to track the Bird of Prey as it escaped. It may provide us with coordinate vectors for a possible base for the Romulan renegades.
The Reclaw apparently was able to follow us due to a Klingon tracking beacon on board our ship. It turned out that General Karag's personal companion, a mastiff, was somehow on board the Avalon. It was returned to its owner as soon as possible. The Avalon has returned to Deep Space Nine where it will undergo a Baryon Sweep for decontamination due to an infestation of Talairian hook-spider. The ship suffered some damage, but it was not as considerable as what the Copeland endured. End log.
Chief Science Officer's Log, Stardate 88429.79452054795
I finally resume posting in my logs following several missions that required no mention in this log, or any missions I unwillingly missed.
Today the Avalon was assigned on a rather simple patrol mission, however something of a more scientific matter drew our attention.
We detected a shuttle-sized ship that sought to investigate a Tarsis energy wave that was on course to a nebula. The resulting impact would trigger the nebula to explode in a visually appealing fashion, in a way that could be described as a 'space rainbow' or a 'space aurora borealis'. In any case, both Science post on the bridge and Astrometrics Labs have done a thorough recording of the entire event. The data will no doubt be very interesting for Starfleet to analyse. Also today would be Crew Evaluation. I will deal with that matter accordingly. End log.

17 of 25 enters her quarters, before sealing the door and engaging a few isolation protocols. Once she was certain she could not be spied on, she started a new log in the computer, using a series of advanced Borg algorithms to protect it until it would be allowed to be viewed. "Chief Science Officer's Log Stardate 88468.09360730593
Our astrometrics mission to analyze the collapsed star responsible for the rare energy wave from the previous mission was cancelled due to temporal anomalies. To be specific, I am the sole member of the Avalon that can recall anything that happened during the original series of events. We initially went toward the system as planned when we engaged the asynchronous warp field. But not long before that, the Q entity appeared once more. He appeared on purpose as he knew what would happen. The asynchronous warp field's contact with an energy wave from the collapsing star triggered a time dilation effect around the ship which sent it 104.2 years in the future. A future in which the Borg Collective had assimilated the entire quadrant. Perhaps even the entire galaxy.
We discovered a derelict Federation ship in which a lone doctor was present on board. While I was not in Sickbay, I watched a video feed of the discussion between him and Captain Hunter. His name is Doctor Connor Moore, and in our time he is a Cybernetic and Prosthetic specialist on board Deep Space Nine.
However three years from our time, he saw the Avalon destroyed along with remains of a Borg ship with technology from 104.2 years in the future. This technology was seized by the Borg of the 25th century who were able to assimilate the Alpha Quadrant with this massive technological upgrade. As we worked on several attempts to return to our timeline, a Borg sphere approached us. Initially it ignored us, however after it scanned us at some point it started to attack us. At that moment, Q was willing to incite us to attempt to fight the sphere near the singularity that was all that remained of the collapsed star in this time. But I realized what this would do. It would set in motion this cataclysmic chain of events and destroy the Federation. We had to return to our time without engaging the sphere. However it engaged us. Considering that the Avalon was now radically inferior to the sphere of that time, we had no chance of survival and we would be destroyed. However, I was able to send a chronometric transmission to myself back in the time period before we had engaged the a synchronous warp field. With this information I received from my future self, I sabotaged our warp core to disable warp long enough to convince the Captain to abandon our astrometric mission and return at once to Deep Space Nine. It should be noted that Captain Hunter in the future authorized me to commit any violation of protocol that would be needed to prevent the time dilation from occuring, and thus changing history. Therefore, the timeline has been restored to normal. With this Log is also included all the additional information that was sent along in the chronometric transmission from my no longer existent future self. Whenever it may now be irrelevant or not to Temporal Prime Directive and Starfleet Intelligence now remains to be seen. It will be left to them. End Log." With that done, 17 of 25 went up to her personal console and opened up a highly secure channel using an unusual code. One that connected straight with Starfleet Intelligence. After a few moments, the figure of an old admiral, bearing an unusual tattoo on his face appeared on the screen. "Admiral Chakotay, it has been some time..." There was no doubt to the Liberated that this series of events had to be directly reported to her prime superior.

The Avalon had to undergo an emergency mission to recover an archaeological expedition in the Algira Sector from which Deep Space Nine had been without news for some time. It was believed that the True Way could be responsible of their disappearance. With haste, the Avalon went to the proceeded coordinates, where an away team along with a MACO team was beamed to the surface. Captain Hunter ordered me to go on the planet along with Commander Gathis, Colonel Tex and Commander T'Kon. On the planet, we discovered signs of Cardassian weapons, which brought up the suspicions of True Way presence again. As we proceeded deeper in the caves, we discovered True Way presence, and proceeded to exterminate them as we moved in. Ultimately we were able to recover the archaeological team, although one of their member had been slain. The body was recovered and brought back to the ship. The True Way leader of this place was also pacified and brought back on board the ship, awaiting interrogation. Only wounded on our side among our MACOs and Commander Gathis. The Avalon on the other hand was held up in a battle with several True Way ships while we were on our mission. The ship sustained damage, but was still warp capable as we headed to the new Starbase to complete our mission. End log.
Chief Science Officer's Log, Stardate 88602.45433789954 With Captain Hunter now demoted and transferred away, as well as the fact that our next captain had yet to arrive, we underwent the next patrol with Commander Gathis as Acting Captain and myself as Acting First Officer. We also were introduced to our new Chief of Security, Lieutenant Commander Cameron Wanders who is hailing from the USS Hydra, the same ship as our next captain. However, from what I can observe, he and Captain T'Kor, our KDF Liason Officer, are not interacting well together. Captain T'Kor has demonstrated his loyalty and efficiency in assisting our security teams in the past, but Commander Wanders clearly appears doubtful of that. Regardless, our patrol had 2 notable events to keep track of. First being that our sensors were still adjusted to pick up Nausican warp trails, and thus detected a one week old warp trail headed for Klingon space. However we did not have a proper opportunity to examine this further as we received a distress call from the USS Stingray. The Stingray had a plasma leak into space, along with an Anesthezine Gas leak into the ship. The ship's Helm had gone outside the ship in a shuttle at the time of the incident, and thus was not initially exposed. Still, in any case we intercepted the drifting Stingray, who was clearly damaged. An away team was sent on board to deal with the wounded and effect minor repairs so the Stingray could be towed back to Starbase 146. Curiously enough, Commander Gathis remained rather silent. In fact, it was I who ended up being the one giving out the orders as we oversaw the away team's mission and their progress. Also, on another note, at the beginning of the patrol, I delivered a ship-wide message, a speech to help in 'cheering up', as it would be said. The goal being to increase and restore ship morale due to the recent events. The speech appears to have been received quite well. From the observations on how the mission went today, I would say that I may perhaps have the necessary qualifications to stand as an actual commanding officer. However, further observations and experimentation will most likely be required first. End log.
Personal Log, Stardate unspecified. I have been recently busy with overseeing the Drones that were recovered from the unexpected attack/incident several days ago. Primarily in overseeing their condition and assist in preparing them for the first steps in their rehabilitations. It also allowed me to observe whether or not the Collective had done any new updates on their Drones, so that I can update myself in consequence. Any advantage I can obtain to better myself in order to be more efficient for the Federation, and also be more apt at countering the Collective, is always welcome. The matter of the Illustrious' arrival was rather disturbing. Observations suggest the Illustrious used a Borg transwarp conduit to return to Starbase 146 instead of its own transwarp drive. Unfortunately this means they had to use a conduit deep in Borg space. I verified some reports related to how such incident came to be and it is somewhat troubling in various matters. Although in priority for me was the potential risks that the Collective would attempt to re-open a conduit path to Starbase 146 and ensure such thing would not happen. So far, it appears this matter is resolved and can be put aside. I admit I have invested myself even more in direct works and other matters on the Avalon, thus leaving me little time to gather information from outside, or interact with other people, especially on the Starbase. But I do attempt to obtain information if possible, as little as it might be.
Apparently, Captain Sanders involved himself romantically with a female Liberated. While her state as Liberated is not the concern, information suggest she may be trapped deep in Klingon space. And that is a situation not unlike one my previous captain, Jason Hunter, went through. That situation ended up with Hunter receiving a temporary demotion to Commander. Perhaps I should attempt speaking with Captain Sanders on this matter. And lastly, other informations suggest that James Francis Davis, who formerly served as Chief Security Officer on board broke out of his imprisonment, and that the ones responsible would be other members of the crew, and Jason Hunter as well. I am growing concerned as to how it may affect Captain Sanders right now. Losing another Captain would not be a good thing. End Log.
Personal Log, Stardate 88755.87899543378 The last two missions, had nothing truly impressive or specific to add related to them. Although different events that did not happen during the missions are of a more serious note. Apparently an unknown device was found on board the Avalon, emitting chroniton particles. The device will be soon handed to me, and I will be able to begin careful examinations of it. I was asked to proceed with caution, something I would have gone with regardless. After our last mission, Captain Sanders also ordered me to make a short study into the Borg Collective to uncover whenever the Collective would use infiltrators. A notion that I saw utterly nonsensical, but I will make a short report on that matter nonetheless. The last matter of concern to me is the presence of denizens of the Mirror Universe that have come here recently. Apparently, The Mirror version of Jason Hunter, still commanding the ISS Midway, is here for diplomatic talks. With what I know of the Terran Empire, this is a highly doubtful notion to believe. Hopefully the Federation is also staying on alert and, if I am correct with human expressions, are taking his claims with a grain of salt. That is supposed to mean they are still wary, even if they will listen.
Whenever I can, I will try to see what new information I can learn from them. Traveling from Starbase 146 to Deep Space Nine however is not something I should be doing frequently.
Personal Log, Stardate 88764.38356164384 I cannot say if I am doing well right now.
I ended up admitting to Captain Sanders that I had been thinking on the entire problem that led Jason Hunter to his demotion, and perhaps considered about perhaps attempting to create a way to remove Governor Korax from his position, considering he is the true responsible for Hunter's demotion. And I do emphasize on attempting to even formulate a plan. Nothing tangible was even considered yet.
However Captain Sanders ordered me to cease to pursue anything on that matter. I complied. I can understand that the matter of Jarkonis 2 is a rather complicated one, and that he would want me to risk my career like Hunter. Later on during the day, a medical emergency was declared on Starbase 146. The matter was due to Lieutenant Jr. James Davis who was suffering a severe coma due to a massive chemical imbalance. His condition was so extreme that I am uncertain he would have lived if I did not decided to come to the station Sickbay to offer my assistance for the medical crisis. Ultimately, the doctors and I used a combination of various medical instruments and dosages along with my nanoprobes to repair the damage he sustained. We were able to save him, although it clearly appeared that he lost a portion of his memories of the last months. However the real problem came after. As soon as we were done with the patient.
Captain Sanders verbally assaulted me, for reasons I cannot properly comprehend. Even going on to say that I was apparently making a political coup d'état along with leaving my post on the Avalon. Even another claim about taking the center chair. This was utterly puzzling.
I never even formulated such plan against Governor Korax. Only began possible considerations, which would still even need much more data before I would actually begin something tangible. Not to mention Captain Sanders did ordered me to cease those attempts, and I complied.
The medical emergency is a good reason for me to come on the station. And I made certain to leave other members of my staff to continue to oversee my tasks while I was absent. Thus my post would not be truly abandoned. Surely Captain Sanders would know that better than anyone else. After all, when he is not on the bridge, someone else has to take bridge command. But what I believe might be the most troubling is the fact that he verbally berated me within one of the corridors of the starbase, the entire event exposed to anyone in the vicinity.
This was not the first time I was berated for potential misconduct. Captain Hunter did so during the Avalon's incident in the Bajoran Wormhole. However the verbal assault took place in his Ready Room, in private. The fact that Captain Sanders berated me in public is something of concern. I am not certain that it is proper Starfleet conduct. Does this mean that I should report Captain Sanders' actions as possible misconducts? Although I also remember that following my discussion with Captain Hunter, I ended up being officially promoted to the position of Chief Science Officer. But this time I am uncertain whenever this situation will actually lead to a promotion, or the opposite...
Following the Avalon's escape from their confrontation with One of One, the Borg Lieutenant Commander 17 of 25 had returned to her quarters due to her instabilities. Her quarters were undoubtedly the most spartan quarters on the Avalon. Only the basic furniture was present, along with a working table with consoles, and nothing else that would be used as some kind of distraction, like a painting or otherwise.
Those quarters were now dark, no lights on...save for the green lightning of the Regeneration Alcove embedded in a wall, which both lit and shrouded the still form of the Borg officer, which remained silent, eye closed and optical implant inactive. However, one console on the working table beeped slowly. At first, nothing was present on it...but soon text started to appear and form up. "Chief Science Officer's Log, Stardate 88794.17808219178, The Avalon was charged to go assist a monitoring colony with which we had lost contact due to a subspace storm.
However, while we were able to go through the storm, escorted by the USS Falchion, we were unprepared for the true reason we lost contact.
The Borg had come and assimilated the colony. This was unexpected as the subspace storm would block and impair the Collective's link with any of their ship that went through that storm. Despite any of our attempts to fight the one Borg Cube that came out of hiding near the planet's northern pole, we were able to make any progress as they were able to beam on our ship, and took Captain Sanders with them. It was my assumption that they sought to make him as a new Locutus Unit. Just as it was also my assumption that the Borg Queen was on board the cube. However it turned out to be wrong.
I was able to hear the voices of the cube, and they were dissonant, lacked proper harmony. This was not the Collective. The cube did not seem able to properly function as well as it should be. It was an advantage we could use. After much deliberation, we sought to rescue Captain Sanders from the Borg cube. Commander Gathis wanted to board the cube, but I had to remind him that since he was the current commanding officer, Starfleet Regulations forbid him from going.
Yet he countermanded the regulations, ordering me to remain here. I sought to contest his decision, explaining how I might be more useful with the away team rather than on the ship, but he refused to listen to reason. He wanted me to remain on the ship to deal with any reaction from the cube. So...I dared attempting to incapacitate him with a Vulcan neck pinch. That did not earn me any appreciation from the rest of the crew. And ultimately, my attempt to force him to stay while I would go failed. I had no other choice but to stay while he was reanimated and he then went with the away team.
While he was gone, I made contact with the Borg cube to attempt to dissuade it from its plans at attempting to assimilate Captain Sanders, then Starbase 146 and then...Earth. It was then that I discovered the truth: That Borg cube was seperated from the Collective ever since Unimatrix 01 was destroyed by Admiral Janeway. And they remained independant since this time. However they were still heavily indoctrinated with the thoughts of the Collective. To a point where their thoughts were clearly faulty. That massive confusion is what allowed the away team to recover Captain Sanders without severe difficulties.
But as they rescued him, I was getting closer and closer to break the 'mental barriers' of the Borg Cube, which now designated itself as 'One of One'. But that chance to break the last hold of the Collective on One of One never came because the explosives set by the Falchion's away teams and our own were detonated...by Commander Gathis who remained on the cube to trigger them. Commander Gathis gave his life in the name of duty in order to allow the Captain to return to the ship. A...noble sacrifice. And yet, if he had allowed me more time...I could have stopped One of One. Convinced him that I was correct. But it never came. A new species that was starting to grow was ended on that day.
The Avalon did not suffered too much damage during the entire event, as we returned to the Starbase, since the assimilated colony also self-destructed. However, the events were rather...problematic for me. It has forced me to go into an extended period of regeneration in order to recover. It may take a week before I can return to active duty. But I must ensure my recovery, so that I can go on and perform in my new task of Acting First Officer... End Log." As that one log ended, another one suddenly began. "Personal Log, Supplemental. I could have saved them...
One of One...He was, essentially, the beginning, the birth of a new species...And I was so close to allow the cube's occupants to finally break from their final chains that still linked them to the Collective's influence...But I failed. And Commander Gathis perished as well...
I...I never...felt what happened to me as I saw the Borg cube explode...I've seen many other ships being destroyed, Borg ships included. I have been witness to the deaths of other individuals, even some who were acquaintances... And yet...the destruction of One of One...It triggered something in me. Something that my cortical node did not even managed to suppress. Was it pain? Agony? Sadness? I...cannot say. All I know is that I truly lost control of myself at that moment. I truly behaved in the manner unbefitting a Starfleet officer. And I even left a dent in the floor of the Avalon's bridge as proof of it. With what happened today, with how I even tried to incapacitate Commander Gathis in order to go on the cube instead of him... I'm unsure if I will remain a Starfleet officer.
I won't turn over my commission as an officer once I am done with my regeneration. The regeneration will give me enough time to...think things through... First, to have finally come to the dreaded conclusion that I was never human to begin with...to have been nothing more than an experiment of the Collective... And now these events...I have much to ponder about... And I feel it will be difficult for me to face the Captain once I have recovered. I may most likely end up demoted. Or worse. But...I have no other choices. I will adapt. And maybe... End Log. Thought better left to ponder during regeneration."
Chief Science Officer's Personal Log, Stardate 88810.38812785389
I have finally emerged from my extended regeneration period. My mind is now much clearer since the events of the Avalon's last mission. I can still...feel...that I am troubled by what happened, but I have no other options but to adapt and move on.
I have consulted the crew registery, and against all calculated odds, I am still in my current position as Chief Science Officer of the Avalon, Second Officer, and Lieutenant Commander. Thought right now...I am also Acting First Officer. Regrettable, but necessary.
Those days in regeneration allowed me to think much as I re-stabilized myself. Reconstructing a new cortical node would be a difficult task for our Chief Medical Officer, and thus it was far better that I was able to stabilize my cortical node before it was too late. I am still think about One of One. The fact that he was, in essence, the beginning of a new species, has truly left me with an impact I did not felt possible. Yet, it is making me think about something. A goal. Something I had not even remotely considered. True, I had always been driven by the need for perfection, which could be translated by the goal of improving myself.
However, my experiences with our last mission made me realize something: I always stated that I consider myself to be a Borg, and not a Liberated. True, while I am no longer linked to the Collective, I retain over 95% of my Borg implants, unlike most Liberateds who usually have only around 15 to 30% of their implants remaining, in most cases. Thinking about it...it made me realize... That One of One isn't the only representative of a new species. A new kind of Borg.
I too. I am the representative, the beginning of a new kind of Borg. A species of free Borgs. A species with their own will, and could still pursue the goal of perfection, through new means instead. Perhaps...this is what I can do. At least for the sake of One of One. And for Commander Gathis. End Log.
Personal Log, Stardate 88815.63926940638 The moment that I...dreaded...finally came to pass. I spoke with Captain Sanders and we discussed the recent events, and especially, my unfitting conduct.
There was much we discussed about the entire matter, as to what I dared to do, and almost sent the whole bridge into chaos at that time. And above all else...my emotional...unstability that I had. I have spent five of the previous days in regeneration, effectively 120 hours, or 432,000 seconds.
And I was conscious, thinking, during each and every of those seconds that passed, endlessly thinking about what happened, what I dared to do...and what I failed to do. I also spoke about how I finally uncovered proof and certainty that...I was never born human. I was made by the Borg Collective. Created and grown through cloning most likely. Created to be used as part of an experimental group for new drone prototypes, for a new generation of drones. I even spoke about how much I felt like One of One was essentially, a new species...Something that I felt I was as well. Neither human, nor a Borg Drone. Rather, a new kind of Borg. A kind that is free-willed, one that would coexist with the Federation. One thing that came out against all odds is that I was not punished or demoted for my actions during the event. I am rather at loss for any reasons why. Perhaps the Captain considers that the suffering I have gone through is punishment enough. After all...Borgs do not tolerate failure. This only make what happened even harder for me to deal with...
Still, it appears there is still no decision made on who will occupy the post of First Officer. I am not certain if I am appropriate for that position due to what happened with the mission. ...But I plan to still apply regardless. I need to improve, to better myself. I cannot fail again as I have. End log.

Recorded from the funerals dedicated to Commander Edward Gathis:
"I never interacted much with the Commander outside of work and assignments. That did not let me attempt to think much of him before. He was a good superior officer and did his work appropriately. He managed to be well stable during a difficult time of transition for the Avalon.
I know however that he had done great deeds before. To have guided the Everest from its unexpected crisis back into Federation territory is no small feat, especially when that ship had lost its captain. As a reward for his exploits, he was assigned to the Avalon. There may be few other rewards that would have compared with such a posting. He would stand strong and firm for the ship, loyal to the captain, and loyal to the ship. He proved it on more than one occasion, especially even more so when the Avalon suddenly found itself without a captain. Both he and I had to work stronger together at that time for the sake of our ship. He continued to follow his convictions, and he was an excellent example of what it means to be Starfleet, or Federation. But in the end, the final moments I had with him were no...appropriate ones.
That those final moments I had with him before his death was one with potential hostility is not favorable in any manner. I insisted on following regulations, but he insisted otherwise. Ultimately, I complied with his orders and let him go. Perhaps I should have been more insistent? We may never know. What I do know is that in the end, he may have actually forgiven me, with one final message to my VPADD as he perished. A simple 'Farewell'. Perhaps he was willing to accept the errors I had done, but it does not make me feel any better.
I do not say I am responsible for his death, but I certainly do feel...affected by this loss. In his death, it turns out that he gave me some final lessons that I should keep in mind. It is only so unfortunate that it took his life...for me to understand better.
You will never be forgotten, Commander Edward Gathis. As a Borg, I will make certain to forever commit you existence into my memories. And I thank you for what you were able to teach me. And I do hope you were indeed willing to forgive me in the end. If that is the case...I am willing to accept forgiveness. Farewell, Commander Gathis."
Computer, End current Chief Science Officer's Log and begin new First Officer's Log, Stardate 88823.85844748859 Captain Sanders finally made his decision regarding the successor to the late Commander Edward Gathis' position.
And he chose me. I have been promoted to the rank of Commander, and given the position of First Officer for the Avalon. And perhaps against all odds, it is the fact that I spoke against Commander Gathis that may have been the deciding factor. This does not ease the fact of what happened during that mission. But this is a unique opportunity for me. I truly intend to stand to the task of this new function, and make the Captain proud. My first order as First Officer has been to find us a new Operations Manager, since Lieutenant Commander Itachi has been given my previous position, and is now Chief Science Officer. There is already one potential candidate from the Exodus that could be retrieved. Contacting either Commander RasTalon or Commander J'rai should be no problem. The Captain also wanted me to gather some informations regarding Jarkonis. I do recall that once he ordered me to stop trying to search into that subject, but since he countermanded that order, it doesn't matter anymore. I will see what I can gather as I prepare the necessary adjustments to my new position. End Log
Stardate 88871.00456621005 "Yer sure about all o' this?" "Positive."
Following the end of the entire event that lead to the use of the Omega Directive, 17 of 25 remained somewhat isolated, trying to think of what she witnessed. She saw Omega stabilize before her eyes, become, even if it was for 1.78 seconds, perfect.
And so did the Borg Queen. She obviously knew she wouldn't be able to get Particle 010 in time, so she tried to access 17's neural transciever to gain information. But 17 had been able to block the Queen from reaching her memory pathways, or her motor subroutines. However the Queen was able to access her visual cortex. And she saw, like the former Drone, perfection manifesting itself. Fortunately, 17 never looked back at the console readings when the Queen saw through her eyes. Which meant that while the Queen saw that 17 use the Borg-designed resonance chamber, she was unaware of the actual modifications that needed to be done to actually make it fully functional. Without that critical information, the Collective would never be able to stabilize Omega.
17 of 25 included all of this in her report, however an unexpected encounter allowed her to deliver her report in a different manner.
When the Liberation escorted the Avalon to New Romulus, 17 ended up encountering her former commanding officer of the previous ship on which she served. The Tellarite Captain, Baahnil, had no changed since. Still stubborn, free mouthed and free-thinking as he ever was. The one captain who stayed at that position longer than anyone else, though some did say Jean-Luc Picard probably served as a Captain for even longer. But while Picard probably did so out of dedication, one could muse that Baahnil remained Captain out of sheer stubbornnes, always making sure that he would never be removed from the center chair, one way or another. That's the reason that ended up with Baahnil getting a 'special agreement' with Starfleet Intelligence on that matter. Especially considering that Baahnil's record was not something as spotless or marvelous as Picard's. Still, in any case, when she went to the surface of New Romulus for the first time, Baahnil accosted 17, and offered to talk about old times, even inviting her on his ship. She got the obvious hint. And now she was standing in the Liberation's Astrometrics Lab, which was currently used as a communication system to speak directly with Admiral Chakotay. And she had just finished delivering her report on the Omega Directive's application. Both Captain Baahnil and the hologram of the Head of Starfleet Intelligence looked at 17 of 25 with grave expressions.
"So we know the Borg Queen won't know how to fully stabilize the Omega Molecule...But a shame she still saw it was possible..." Chakotay mused. "I'm more worried 'bout th' fact that this freak lady actually showed up!" Baahnil roared.
"She was not physically on that sphere. Her consciousness was present. It does leave one implication to me: The Borg Queen has come into our territories once more, something she never did since the failed attempt at disrupting First Contact." 17 of 25 said. "Agreed. That's a very big change in our front against the Collective." Chakotay replied. "I'll inform Admiral D'Vak of this so that Omega Force can start looking for her personal ship." "Ya want th' Liberation to go out there an' help 'em?" the Tellarite captain grumbled.
"Not for the moment Baahnil. You can finish up your delivery to New Romulus, then resume your assignments at your convenience." Chakotay answered. "Righty." "And what do you want of me sir?" 17 asked.
Chakotay looked curious. "You? I don't need to ask you to do anything special. You've done as it was needed, and helped Sanders deal with the Omega Molecules. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Just because you have a private comm code with me doesn't mean you're one of my agents, 17. Despite your skills and all the training you ended up getting, you're still an...'average' Starfleet Officer." "Of course sir." 17 replied.
"I can't say I showed you favoritism when I sent you on a ship full of Borg haters now, did I?" Chakotay said, smirking at Baahnil. "Ey now. We still hate them Borgies. But my crew sure won't be hatin' th' free ones like 17 here. She sure showed up what she's got, and we're all happy wit' it." Baahnil said. "Which is why you disobeyed orders and decided to show her some favoritism by sending her on the Avalon?" Chakotay replied with an amused expression. Baahnil looked offended. "There was no way I'd let some big damn skills like what she's got get all wasted by sticking as a simple Science crewman on a random ship, even if it's mine! Besides, look at her now! She's no longer in blue, but in Command Red! Gotta say, but 17 of 25 sure climbed up the ladder way faster than a lot o' people would!" Chakotay nodded. "Liberateds tend to climb up faster, but I do agree you helped her climb up faster than most would. But let's be honest. You've earned that position so far, Commander 17 of 25. Keep it up and you might find yourself on a center chair with your own ship cruising alongside the Avalon and the Liberation." 17 nodded. "Thank you sir. But I admit that while the chance of a promotion to commanding a new ship would be very tempting, I...feel I may still lack some skills in the command department. For the moment, remaining on the Avalon will give me the best chance to acquire what I am missing." "Aw come ON!" Baahnil grunted. "Don't go all 'Riker' on us! Damn guy had several chances to get his own chair so many times, but he always passed them on to stick to th' Enterprise!" "The Enterprise is the Flagship of the Federation. Serving on that ship is no small matter. In that sense, the Avalon is a Flagship in its own right. Thus, serving on the Avalon is no small matter either." 17 replied. Chakotay leaned back and crossed his arms. "Well, I think we can't really argue with that kind of logic, can we now Baahnil? ...unless you plan to keep on arguing after this conversation?" he asked with a somewhat mischievious smile. Baahnil waved off at the Admiral's hologram, looking annoyed. "Yeah yeah, I got it, Admiral Tattoo. I'll let it slide fer now..." Chakotay smirked before the hologram went off. "A spiritual experience..." 17 started. "Huh?" Baahnil looked curiously at his former crewman.
"When I spoke with Annika Hansen on the matter of her own experience with Omega, she told me that after it happened, Janeway had come to her and they spoke about what she saw when she too saw Omega stabilize itself. And the Captain commented that Annika Hansen had just been through her first spiritual experience." "...Might not be so surprising. I mean come on, Borgies' been pretty much crazy fer Omega, it's basically their holy grail. It's like havin' th' chance t' see yer god or something. ...Speaking of which...since ye saw it...How was it?" Baahnil said, before grinning at the end. "...I cannot explain it..." 17 hesitated. "Though...it looked at me...Or I think it did..."
"See? Ain't sciency stuff that's easy t' explain. Can't have all explained every time." Baahnil added. "Shall we?" as he waved at the Lab's door. 17 of 25 nodded as they walked off. "By the way...Think ye could ask yer Captain if he's got som' kind o' special chicken recipie? I mean, his name's Sanders right? Surely he's got something from that old 'Colonel Sanders' thingy." Baahnil asked, somewhat seriously. 17 of 25 remained silent for a moment. Chances are that if she was human, she might have groaned. "...I will see what I can do about asking him. Although I think it might not be a good idea that you start calling him 'Captain Fried Chicken'." "Welll...was jus' thinkin' of only 'Cap' Chicken', but who knows?
...Oh and also...trust me when I say ye really got th' makin' of a Captain in ya. Maybe ye should jump on th' chance when it comes..." If she was human, 17 of 25 would surely roll her only eye now... "...I thought the Admiral told you not to persue that discussion further..." His reply was a hearty laugher.
First Officer's Log, Stardate 88890.1826484016 The Avalon's medical mission to the Japori system was interrupted by a distress call by a race named the Yetheri, which was enslaved by the Tholians. Due to the urgency of the medical crisis, the Avalon could not divert to the Azure Nebula, where the distress call came from. So I took command of the Excalibur and went to answer the distress call. We discovered the Yetheri ship surrounded by 3 Tholian ships. However those 3 ships were inactive, their crew missing. It wasn't until a fourth ship came that we discovered the truth: The Yetheri had managed to create a weapon capable of destroying the Tholians in a manner similar to Thalaron radiations. I attempted to convince the Yetheri to abandon their genocidal plot, but ultimately, despite our attempts, the Yetheri ship was destroyed, and their new weapon lost. The only information of it remains in our computers. When the Avalon was over with its mission, it headed for the Azure Nebula and we explained to them the situation. We remained in the nebula until the Avalon and a fleet came to recover the derelict ships. I knew there would be challenges in the path of Commander, but despite how prepared I felt, I was unprepared for that. And unfortunately there are no other options for me than to continue if I want to learn more to become better. End Log. First Officer's Personal Log, Supplemental,
I admit I have been very troubled with what happened with the Yetheri. In a sense, I...wished that Captain Sanders had been there to make the decision to stop the Yetheri. But...That it what being a Captain means: To take risks and make difficult choices. I assimilated hundred of individuals, and participated in the assimilation of thousands more when I was part of the Collective. Yet the decision of taking the lives of a few not long ago...troubled me. I did not want the Yetheri to suicide themselves. I tried to disable their ship, but it didn't work.
And I will have to bear with it. One way or another, I do not exactly have many other options. I have come this far...I cannot go back. I have nowhere else to go. End Log.
First Officer'S Log, Stardate 88909.3607305936 The Avalon responded to a distress call from the USS Bolton, which turned out to be under attack by a rogue Vamprosian ship. We were able to rescue the Bolton's survivors and destroy the Vamprosian ship, though its rogue pilot, now berserk, survived. It was transported on the Avalon where it was summarily pacified by Lieutenant K'Laliti and myself. The Vamprosian has been put into the brig, with a 'Borg Paralysis Implant' of my making to ensure she will be unable to move, much less escape while it is returned to the Fotian Alliance. On a side note, I had to discuss a matter of proper behavior with Lieutenant Olnosev and Lieutenant Commander Davis. Olnosev had been aggressive toward our Counselor, and Davis was berating him for that. I have put a formal reprimand in the records of both Senior Officers for Inappropriate Behavior as Senior Officers on the Bridge. But I also intend to speak with the Counselor. She may have been the one that caused this problem in the first place.
Commander Davis also wants to report to the Captain about his dismissal of security protocols when we captured the Vamprosian and transported it on board. I understand and I am willing to see that we can discuss the matter both together with the Captain. End Log.
First Officer's Log Stardate 89025.04553734061 The Avalon is still under repairs from its battle with rogue Klingon elements. We are very fortunate to have survived the battle, a testament to the skills of its crew. A small service will be established for the casualties suffered in the battle.
But I think I am disappointed with Commander Itachi leaving the Avalon. She was a competent science officer. Though she earned herself a promotion and will take command of the Fox. As if it wasn't enough that Commander Davis also left for the Reclamation.
But on the matter of the rogue attack, we received unexpected help from Maverick. Captain Sanders was unwilling to hear anything the Ferasan wanted to say, and since I was still on the Excalibur during their conversation, I missed what might have been said. But according to some information by Captain Korzan, a Klingon house has gone rogue, and the ships belonging to said House also vanished. I am beginning to suspect, thanks to Korzan, that our mysterious Maverick may not be as hostile as we initially thought. He could be an ally. The problem is that Captain Sanders might not want to discuss with him. And I am loathe to override his command just to find Maverick in order to hear what he has to say. Overall, I am rather displeased. I know I could always contact Admiral Chakotay, but that special link is a privilege that I should not abuse. I am not a member of Starfleet Intelligence. I am simply a Starfleet Officer, though an unusual one. The Liberation has already gone off on a deep space mission, thus it cannot be reached for assistance in that matter. We may very well be on our own for what is coming right now. End Log.
First Officer's Log, Stardate 89042.12204007285 Our travel to New Romulus was interrupted by the discovery of an unusual anomaly. First it was a gravity well, however it soon manifested itself as a planet that, essentially, appeared out of nowhere. Sensors detected the presence of an old derelict Federation ship, the USS Eagle, who was believed to have been lost, with only a few survivors that evacuated it.
Captain Sanders led an away team into the Eagle to investigate, and also to see if it was possible to tractor the ship back, for historical reasons. I was not keen on allowing the captain in a situation where the anomaly that caused the planet to appear to come and make it disappear while the captain was on board. But I complied. However our scans allowed us to discover more while the captain was on the Eagle. There were two colonies on the planet, seperated. While one perhaps had survivors or descendants of the Eagle crew, the other was a Klingon research lab, who had Klingons affected by the Augment virus, along with Cardassians and modern-day Klingons. The Cardassians and Modern Klingons apparently had an altered quantum signature. Further analysis allowed us to discover that way because they were from the Mirror Universe. Not long after that, a Mirror Klingon ship approached us, in hostile posture. Even though we had no goal to fight them, it turned out that they claimed one of our ships was in their universe and was interfering in their wars. They opened fire on the Eagle soon after that, and we were forced to fight them. Their ship though was no match for ours, especially with our new upgrades. We disabled their weapons on their port side, and they were ready to shift side to continue their attack, which allowed us the opportunity to lower shields long enough to beam back the away team, then leave. I tried to incite the Klingons to follow us and escape the anomaly, but they did not listen.
I can only believe that they will now be trapped in temporal stasis for another 145 years until the anomaly will manifest itself again. From my observations made using our records of the Eagle's events, I believe this planet effectively appears every 145 years for a short time before disappearing. But it seems it also shift between universes as well.
When the away team returned, they also brought data from the Eagle. It included a video recording of a battle between Klingon Alliance ships, and a Federation Sol Class Starship, that we were able to identify as the USS Reliance. That ship was believed to have disappeared months ago in the Neutral Zone, and was considered lost with all hands. Against all odds, that ship is still active, though how well it has endured, we cannot say. Perhaps on another occasion, we could attempt working on a system to contact the Reliance.
But for now, I have another priority: Captain Sanders want me to work on recreating the nanoprobe torpedo I used on Maverick's ship before. He expects a future encounter, and clearly wants me to have something to incapacitate his ship. Given how the first torpedo was made in a short time due to the emergency of the battle, I should have much more time now to create more than just a stronger torpedo. If possible, I will create some additional weaponry and systems we could use. Perhaps a nanoprobe generation unit, that can constantly create nanoprobes programmed with certain parameters. And this system could be connected to our weapons array, enabling us the ability of firing a few 'nanoprobe phasers' blasts, with enhanced shield penetration. Along with new torpedoes with new programming...it could be possible.
...Perhaps I could build an array capable of generating a Cutting Beam as well...With proper materials that I could reconvert into the proper configuration... Oh, and Doctor Whitlock has expressed the desire of taking the Command Exam in order to obtain the rank of Commander. I will forward the request to the Captain before preparing the Examination. To think I never had to do that test myself...though many of the past experiences and losses I suffered surrounding my promotion to the rank of Commander, and the times after may have essentially served as my own Command Exam. It was difficult, but I believe I have adapted well enough now. End Log.
First Officer's Log, Stardate 89113.16029143897 The Avalon still continued to search for the ISS Kusanagi, but while we started to ponder that the sensor ghosts that the other ships have been detecting might be traces of the Kusanagi, our search was interrupted by Q. Apparently he wanted to throw some kind of celebration. A practice before doing it to his granddaughter. An unusual choice, and apparently it may have been a bit more than a year since the Everest was launched. I never kept track of my actual age, but perhaps I may very well be around one year by now... However, despite his antics, Q gave us hints and information related to the Kusanagi's wherabouts. Some of our thoughts were confirmed, but what is even more problematic is how long does the Kusanagi has before it is too late. And...I could swear there was a temporal distortion later on the bridge...Was it Q that did it? Or something else? I am truly uncertain on that one... End Log.
First Officer's Log, Stardate 89138.20582877961 As the Avalon is making its final adjustment for the dangerous mission ahead, so have I been making preparations of my own.
I have gone and replicated materials from the ship's industrial replicators in order to construct myself a Borg exo-armor, complete with all the standard capabilities of Borg armor, but with additional adjustments made by myself. True, I could have gone and simply used my MACO armor, but in the advent that Starfleet equipment isn't enough, Borg equipment could be of great use. While we have almost little information on the species attacking the Kusanagi, I have drawn a few conclusions and theories on the matter: - This species exists in an alternate spacial dimension, in a similar way to Species 8472. It is very possible that this new species could be an off-shot, or in some way be related to Species 8472. Therefore, similar weapons and tactics used against Species 8472 may work against the unknown Species. I have already prepared a nanoprobe delivery system for this, and will only need to acquire information on the species' genetical structure before attempting to use that weapon. - Species 8472 is telepathic in nature. Considering the void of the Interspace would also inhibit vocal communication, it is possible this other species to be capable of telepathy. My neural transciever and other neural implants are already adjusted to block telepathic contact, thus on this level, I am prepared. - This species must be clearly very strong in terms of physical strength. Borg Exo-armor will be useful. I reinforced the exoplating with an additional nanolayer of tritanium for additional protection. I am not certain that my enhanced physical strength(which will be increased further by the exo-armor) may ultimately be able to match that of the unknown species, but I must still count on possible speed and mobility advantage if necessary.
- Given this species's apparent design, it is clear they may have no true ranged abilities that are initially visible. A retractable tritanium blade was added as a close combat defense mechanism to help give myself some additional protection in close range. Assimilation tubules may or may not work depending on the species's genetical composition, especially if it is akin to Species 8472's own. In short, I have theorized much in terms of what this unknown species might be able to do, and have attempted to prepare myself in consequence. I will do as much as I can in order to ensure the success of this mission, which could potentially be one of the most difficult ones for the Avalon so far... The Captain has made no objection on my use of Borg equipment instead of MACO equipment, therefore I will use what I have prepared. I will also make a ship-wide advisory message of the armor I intend to use in order to avoid confusion and possible panic from the crew seeing me in a Borg exo-armor. End Log.
First Officer's Log, Stardate 89139.07862780814 Our attempt to recover the Kusanagi was a failure, though we still managed to acquire some information on the situation on board the Admiral's ship. I led the away team that boarded the ship, which appeared to be deserted. However as we progressed, we started to discover some troubling factors.: - The Interspace is filled with many temporal distortions, which left the Kusanagi's sections trapped between different temporal periods. That caused Fearos and a security officer to be temporarily removed from us as they were moved elsewhere in time.
- The claims about an indigenous species living in this Interspace is clearly confirmed, as three of the away team did spotted one of the creatures. It is also very likely these creatures have a highly negative effect on telepaths. Perhaps the stronger they are, the more intense the effect. Lieutenant Xivix who was part of the away team collapsed, life signs at minimal while Nurse Kat was not in such a radical condition. - It could be possible that ultraviolet sensors and vision systems enable us to detect the creatures. One thing is certain: I was the only member of the away team to be utterly unscathed. No temporal distortions separated me from the away team, and I was neither affected by a telepathic assault, nor was I faced with one of the creatures. - This leads me to the conclusion that any mean of telepathic shielding could be highly necessary to face those creatures. While they must be highly fearsome, a part of their strength also come from whatever telepathic abilities they have. Nullify that and it removes one of their advantages. If we can track them as well, then their threat level is lessened further. I was able to recover an audio log from the Kusanagi, which may have apparently the final moments of the crew. Considering the temporal distortions, Captain Sanders want me to see with Lieutenant Maus a way for us to use the temporal distortions to our advantage in order to rescue the Kusanagi before it is too late. In the next two days, the Tiberius may be able to make its own attempt should they decide to do so. If we have completed the calculations in time, we will send them over to the Tiberius.
Also, due to Commander V'arek's lack of privacy, I had to speak with him on this matter. His improper attitude has led me to formally add a reprimand in his records for inappropriate behavior, but also for racial insults. Obviously, he is clearly very prejudiced against the Borg, and would obviously give little respect to Liberated Borgs. He will obviously have to get used to my presence on board, and follow protocol. If he cannot adapt to the Avalon, then he may very well have to leave this ship. But I will wait and see if he is capable of learning to be properly respectful. End Log.

First Officer's Log, Stardate 89199.11202185793 It would seem that the situation in terms of bridge position has rectified itself well. I did not have to reprimand Commander V'arek ever since the first time, and he appears to be behaving well. On other matters, last week, the Avalon attacked a secret Tal Shiar base with the assistance of Arcen Xivix. While there were no survivors, I had as many undamaged corpses transported to one of the Cargo Bays as possible, where I keep them in a stasis condition. I intend to regenerate their cerebral cortex in order to access any information they would have had. Such a feat is possible for the Borg Collective, due to Species 149 that possessed advanced medical technology, from which the ability to reverse cellular necrosis was obtained. Normally it can only work on subjects who are deceased since 73 hours, but considering that I am keeping the corpses in stasis, it will still function to a degree. Besides, I am not seeking to fully revive them, only obtain the necessary information from their cerebral cortex. However today, the Avalon finally resumed the primary mandate of the Federation, which is exploration. We also were able to encounter a new species that had begun to use warp technology. While this is a First Contact event, it would appear we were not the first alien species they encountered. The other species attacked their world, and caused great damage to the Gem'nateans. Once we arrived at their homeworld of Geminus, we discovered who were the hostile species that attacked them before. It was the Hirogens. One of their ships was left as a wreckage in orbit around Geminus, and from reverse-engineering it, the Gem'nateans were able to learn warp travel. The Gem'nateans themselves are a peculiar race in which its members are pairs that are telepathically connected to one another. I can note a similarity with the Bynars in this case. We could probably look into having Bynar assistance in terms of future negotiations with the Gem'nateans. Still, the damaged Hirogen ship was leaking tetryon particles which may be at the source of a cataclysm that struck the Gem'nateans, who appeared to be no longer able to procreate pairs of individuals, but only single individuals instead. Commander Fearos and V'arek already started to work on removing the damaged components of the Hirogen vessel in order to help rectify the problem. Whenever it will allow the Gem'nateans to be able to procreate pair of linkted individuals again, we cannot tell immediately. One of those pair will remain on board of the Avalon to act as ambassadors. Whenever it will be possible, we will lead them to the Federation Diplomatic Corps who will be able to begin official diplomatic procedures with them. End Log.
First Officer's Log, Stardate 89218.23770491804 This may have been one of my most troubling moment. Against all odds, we had an unusual visitor on the Avalon today...And it was none other than myself...or rather, a future incarnation of myself, time of origin unknown. What is known is that she, in her time, is apparently the leader of a New Collective, in which all its members retain their free will. The reason however why she came is that she needed our help to save Arcen Xivix from being killed by unknown forces. Apparently, this series of incident in the time of Jonathan Archer, which were referred to as the 'Temporal Cold War', still have repercussions even today. In fact, the events that led to the war, or were part of the war will still happen, and there will be some of them in the 25th Century. Relatively speaking, this is possible. Even though the War was stopped by Archer in the past, the events that led to the war's beginning would still happen. My future self was able to stop the assassin with our assistance... But I still...feel uncertain. I do not know what to think.
I already knew that I had many possible chances of having a very long lifespan, since I am still in most part, a Borg Drone. But knowing a part of the future of what I might become is...troubling. Though...I think I understand some of the things that may have led her to her position. I still remember our encounter with the cube One of One. This truly made me willing to somehow find a way to give free will to the Borg. I can only guess that I will succeed in that goal. I do not know how, I do not know why, but I will go on.
Even though I know what I will become...I can't simply rest and be satisfied of it. I can understand that what she did was extremely difficult for her, to have us go into possible danger, without truly giving an answer, it would not be easy. But...at least she gave me some hope. I may have a future of my own after all. In any case...I will need to make myself ready. Temporal Investigations will no doubt have a lot of questions for me. End Log.
First Officer's Log, Stardate 89294.74043715847 Our travel to Starbase 146 was interrupted by orders from Starfleet Command to assist two ships that had triggered their quarantine beacons. The Aries and the Intrepid were found by Klingon ships that discovered them and relayed the information to us.
After investigation, we discovered that the unknown infection that affected both ships came from a Romulan escape pod, and that the actual source were nanomachines of alien origins. The pod had been recovered by the Intrepid before they encountered the Aegis, and transmitted the infection to them.
Doctor Whitlock was able to study in a quanrantined environment on a Runabout one of the first infected kept in stasis. She and her team were able to discover that an EM pulse could destroy the nanomachines. The medical ship Arcadia came when we were almost completed with purging the nanomachines using our deflector dish. They have the information from our observations, and will continue the medical operations on the two ships. We have resumed course for Starbase 146 and should arrive on schedule. End Log First Officer's Personal Log, Supplemental
A few questions have risen to my mind now that, unexpectedly enough, Captain John Sanders was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral. This, more than anything may suggest that his commanding time on the Avalon may be limited, and he may have to relinquish command sooner or later. The question though is, will he be able to remain in command? But if he has to relinquish command and leave the Avalon, who will be in command? Only 2 logical possibilities: Either a new captain will be assigned to the Avalon... ...or I will be promoted to the rank of Captain. Captain 17 of 25 of the Federation Starship Avalon. I believe that a part of me does yearn for this possibility. As well as a certain hesitation.
That decision however does not rest on my shoulders. For the moment, I am Commander 17 of 25 of the Federation Starship Avalon. The First Officer of one of the Federation's Flagships. That First Officer is a Borg. I can still continue to demonstrate how efficient I am to the Federation. End Log.
And that's all for the old logs from the previous site

First Officer's Personal Log, Stardate 89387.52276867031
Matters have been very unstable as of late, but they have finally started to calm down. The most notable one being the attempt from Romulan General Solius to destroy New Romulus. A combined fleet of Starfleet and KDF ships met his force, and were even assisted by defectors present within the enemy forces, most notably one Commander S'Taev.
With Solius dealt with, New Romulus seems to have finally begun to become more self-capable, and has even gone as far as sending several Romulan captains to join either the Federation or the KDF. Commander S'Taev was one sent to us.
I have met a few of those new Romulans who are highly desirable in joining us, mainly in order to exact revenge on the Tal Shiar, usually for personal reasons. While this could make most of them determined in aiding us, it could be a complication. If these Romulans were to be extremly obssessed and reckless in their quest for revenge, it would put us all at risk.
In my last log, I spoke about the fact that Captain Sanders was promoted to Admiral, which left the possible risk of him departing the Avalon, which would have resulted in the need for a new captain.
That did not come to pass as Admiral Sanders decided to use the Avalon as his flagship, thus still remaining the 'Captain' of the Avalon. He did spoke to me about how this action could have been viewed as a move that hindered my own career. I suppose a part of me may have wished to assume this higher function, though I also felt troubled. I still remember the encounter with the Yetheri in the Azure Nebula. I wanted Captain Sanders to be there to make the hard decision instead of myself.
I am uncertain on whenever I would be ready. Perhaps this realization and understanding about how difficult choices are for a Starfleet Captain is the final element required to assume this role? I do not know. All the knowledge the Borg Collective assimilated from Starfleet Captain certainly did not included anything to know in order to take on the role of Captain. That would have been irrelelvant information.
Still, for the time being, I am still the First Officer of the Avalon. And not long ago, Lieutenant Alexis Maus had me come with her for a sort of...entertainment session in which we went shopping for cosmetics, jewelry and clothes, as well as a visit to a spa.
It is hard to say if this action truly had the effect the Lieutenant desired, but it made me realize something I failed to do ever since I became the First Officer of the Avalon: Get to know the crew better.
It would truly help improve the ship's efficiency if relations between myself and the other senior officers were improved, perhaps especially more so with Commander V'arek, who used to be part of Omega Force, and thus is not fond of Borg.
So, overall the situation may be improving.
Though I think there may have been some captains that would have expressed displeasure at me becoming Captain of the Avalon. I hope one day I will be able to demonstrate that I can be an excellent captain as much as they are, perhaps even better.
End Log.

First Officer's Log, Stardate 89390.36885245903
The Avalon was asked to investigate an unknown warp signature coming from the Rolor Nebula, detected by the Athens Array. Once we arrived to the location in question, we discovered a primitive warp-capable spacecraft in that system. It turned out that this species had begun its first steps into the galaxy, and thus would be ready for First Contact. Before making contact, we wanted to learn more about the ship, its species and also its mission.
This was especially necessary due to the fact that the spacecraft's warp technology was very similar to that of the Klingons. An away team took the Kholindarr closer to the spacecraft for closer analysis. We managed to maintain cover perfectly until the spacecraft's warp core began to fail and its containment failing.
It was a bold decision, but I ordered that the spacecraft's passengers be transported aboard. But out of the 4, we only were able to transport one, under effect of radiation poisoning. Once revived in Sickbay on the Avalon, the alien revealed that its species seemed to believe that they had to prepare themselves against an alien invasion, and have lived under this fear for a long time.
This will make proper First Contact very difficult to proceed with. Information has been forwarded to the First Contact Office, and the alien will remain on the Avalon for the time being. Hopefully we can make him understand that his people's beliefs are erronous, and that it can be possible to avoid chaos on his planet when a peaceful First Contact is established.

First Officer's Log, Stardate 89499.43078324226
As Admiral Sanders was left at Deep Space Nine for his conference with the Romulan Star Empire, the Avalon returned to Starbase 146 where we played host to a gathering of Romulans hailing from the Republic in order to welcome them into the Federation.
The gathering went fairly well, and I even proceeded to offer a welcoming speech as well in order to make them more comfortable.
Unfortunately, there was one matter that marred the overall mood of the proceedings. We learned that on the Exodus' latest mission at Nimbus 3, Captain Jason Hunter of the USS California was captured by the Tal Shiar. When Captain Tiana Rastalon of the USS Exodus was inquired on the matter, somewhat forcefully due to Jason Hunter's Romulan sister, she was not very forthcoming.
One would have thought that after all that transpired at Jarkonis, that she would have learned and developped herself. Dissapointingly, it does not appear so. Commander S'Taev and I were very disappointed with her unwillingness to give us proper answers. Admiral Sanders has been made aware of this, and unfortunately we could only make him aware of it after the conference was done.
We discussed about the possibilities of why he would have been taken, but our speculations are limited until we get a full report from Captain Rastalon.
Hopefully we will have answers soon. For it is clear there are many individuals on the starbase and in several ships that clearly show the desire to help and save Jason Hunter as soon as possible, and in some case, by any means necessary.
I would lie if I would say that I would not want to assist them. I would not be where I am if it wasn't for him. But we need to remain clear and focused. If most seem to prefer to let their emotions drive them to free Hunter, then I will remain as one who won't be affected by such.
End Log
BONUS: 17 of 25's brief speech at the conference:
May I request everyone's attention?
Given the fact that the Starbase's commanding officer is occupied at this moment, as is Admiral Sanders, commanding officer of the 146th, and of the Avalon, the 146th's Flagship, I believe that it falls upon me, the Flagship's XO to offer you all welcome to this gathering.
I understand that this could be a challenging moment for all of you. Your people has only recently found a homeworld after years of search. And now all of you have been sent to assist the Federation.
It is no doubt a struggling challenge, but all of you have managed to endure much before, and I am certain that you will all be well capable in aiding the Federation.
And so, I welcome you to Starbase 146, and to the Federation. And I hope we will all be capable of making great improvements together.

First Officer's Log, Stardate 89428.62021857924
In order to attempt a rescue of Captain Jason Hunter, the Avalon went to the Vault in order to uncover any possible clues on the location of any installation used by the Tal Shiar that could have been left in there. Considering most of the Vault is still unexplored, perhaps there might have been something. Despite the size of the Vault, the Avalon is still too large for the Vault's inside, so the Excalibur was used to accompany the Rerik, one of Obisek's ships inside into a new section they had uncovered.
We managed to enter the section, though I would say our success at entering the section may have been unusually fortunate or convenient. In any case, there was limited information left in that section. But we were able to obtain the names of a few installations used by the Tal Shiar. Most of them were already known and/or destroyed, but there was one that could be useful.
However our search was interrupted by an arrival of Tholian ships. The Excalibur and the Rerik quickly returned to assist the Avalon, however the Tholian ships left without having fired a single shot. It was more liking they were trying to draw us into a trap, or force us to attack first.
In any case, we recieved some kind of public broadcast from the Star Empire, that proclaimed they had captured Jason Hunter as a war criminal, responsible for the murder of 8000 Romulans one year ago.
To be more exact, it would be the short battle, or massacre that happened with General Tomalak's forces against Deep Space Nine. The Star Empire's claims however, are extremly falsified. Captain Hunter was not the aggressor, rather he was the defender. Tomalak was the one that attacked first, even openly provoking him. To add to this, her mental state was clearly degraded.
We are headed for Deep Space Nine at maximum speed, where we will go to recover as much proof of the battle that occured there, while also contacting Starfleet Command for further instructions on the matter.
And it is also clear the broadcast destabilized a large number of people, especially the Admiral. If he continues to be emotionally unstable and compromised, I will have no other choice but to follow Starfleet Regulation 619 and relieve him of duty.
Hopefully, it will not come to that.

First Officer's Log, Stardate 89447.74590163935
The Avalon's search for Installation 12 was interrupted by the discovery of an outdated distress signal that was discovered to come from the USS Hiawatha, reported missing for 20 years ever since the Hobus Supernova.
While the ship's crew had abandoned it, the Hiawatha still remained populated by an unexpected source. A photonic population had been created based on an automated experiment created by the Hiawatha's Chief Science Officer to test a a simulation of accelerated bacteria growth.
The experimentation remained automated by the ship's computer even if the crew abandoned it. Because of the nature of the project, it essentially simulated a form of pseudo-organic life, which resulted in this photonic civilization which worshiped 'The Captain' as their deity.
No doubt much of their beliefs are centered around the information they were able to garner from the Hiawatha's logs.
Still, the reason of the distress call was due to two reasons. The Hiawatha had suffered damage from impact with a spacial object, but most of all, the ship's power was starting to run out after 20 years of constant activity without maintenance.
At first we believed that the Hiawatha's power would be able to last a few more weeks to allow more specialized starships to rescue the Hiawatha, but as we made contact with the Hiawatha's photonic population, they began to gather more and more on the bridge, increasing the power drain with their gathering.
That left us no choice but to take urgent action to safeguard the Hiawatha's computer that had begun to delete critical data in order to compensate. We were able to remotely access the Hiawatha's computer systems to reprogram some key functions as well as transporting in a secondary computer core with an independent power source to help expand the Hiawatha's outdated computer systems.
Because the Admiral left the bridge to deal with a necessary communication with Starfleet, I had to be the one to explain to the Hiawatha's population that other ships would come to assist them in the near future.
Surprisingly, it seems I was able to explain it in an appropriate matter without disrupting their beliefs. Some crewmembers complimented me on it.
We resumed our course following this, as we continue to search for Installation 12.

First Officer's Personal Log, Supplemental
I admit having to explain to this photonic population that other ships would come rescue them was...unexpected. Though I suppose I may be satisfied in the overall results, I guess.
I also took the time to speak with Commander Fearos. The private even with Lieutenant Maus made me realize that in order to further improve ship efficiency, improving personal relations between myself and the staff officers should be done. Increasing this 'familiarity' between myself and the other officers will help the overall morale and efficiency of the ship. I could cite many examples of how useful it is to do so.
In any case, I will see about setting a similar private event with Commander Fearos when the Avalon returns to Deep Space Nine.

Recorded under Personal Security Code B-72842649174593047140
In the light of recent events, I had much work to do.
The Fotian AI known as 'Tri' unexpectedly returned to us, controlling a Tal Shiar Hybrid ship. A few of us, myself included boarded the ship to inspect it.
I truly wonder if I would be impressed or disgusted by what the Romulans have created with a ship like this. In any case, with Tri's assistance, and despite the constant banter from all the others that came along, I was able to extract the required data related to Installation 12 from the ship's computer.
A more thorough analysis will be required, and I will deal with it. I also learned of the 'proposition' made by Chavek, using Jason Hunter's own logs as part of his offer. I know the Admiral ordered Commander Va'rek to perform a security investigation, and I decided to make my own investigation on the matter in the computer systems. As far as results goes, the only ones that ever accessed Jason Hunter's logs were myself and Jason Hunter himself.
For me, it was when I accessed them in order to uncover possible reasons for his capture, while the last time Jason Hunter accessed the logs were before he departed the Avalon.
No doubt he took a copy of the logs with him as he ultimately became Captain of the California. I will pass this along to the Admiral as well as the results of my analysis of the Tal Shiar data when I am done.

First Officer's Log, Stardate 89464.1393442623
The USS Nebulus, which was being led by a cadet staff came to the Starbase as part of a training of some sort. However due to unknown reasons, the Nebulus entered in contact with the Starbase's hull with one of its nacelles during docking procedures.
Admiral Sanders ordered me to arrest the commanding officer in charge of the cadets while all logs from the ship were uploaded to the Starbase.
A full diagnostic of the ship however will need to be delayed to wait for an engineering team from Earth. Attache Twelve, assistant to the Academy Commandant refused to have the Nebulus's system lockout to be removed until the engineering team from Earth would arrive. I made it clear that Admiral Sanders would most likely be displeased of that, but nothing else can be done on the matter.
Overall however, it is more likely the incident happened due to a system malfunction of some sort, given that a limited AI system had been input in the Nebulus as a safety measure to protect the cadets during their test.
For the time being, they will remain on the Starbase until the matter is fully resolved. And once the matter is clear, their commanding officer should be released as well.
I think we already have enough problems at the time being with William's upcoming trial and Jason Hunter still missing. We clearly need not more with these cadets being here. Hopefully it will be solved quickly.

First Officer's Log, Stardate 89466.87158469945
As the Avalon went to perform a calibration test by firing on a massive asteroid in a planet not too far from the Starbase and the Vlugta Asteroid Field gave us an unexpected discovery in the form of a massive dilithium deposit hidden beneath the asteroid's outer layer, not to mention other minerals present.
Such a massive amount of minerals present there could be of immeasurable importance to the Federation. Unfortunately we need to remain extremely discrete regarding the discovery for moment, so a comm blackout has been raised on the Avalon for the time being.
Part of this is mostly due to my concern that Admiral Sanders' wife, who is a reporter, could be trying to upload this information to FNN. I tried speaking to her, but for the moment I cannot say if she will refrain from attempting any illegal transmission during the blackout.
Three ships already made their way here to help observe the vicinity. One from an Admiral that was a guest on board our ship, while the other two were dispacted by Starfleet Intelligence, no doubt soon after Admiral Sanders contacted Starfleet.
These two ships, the Liberation and the Oracle will both keep a more distant and lower profile as they will use subterfuge methods to help conceal dilithium traces for now while no doubt surveying for other potential sites.
For now I am reviewing the telemetry data our probes have transmitted from the asteroid. And I should be able to determine some of the optimal locations for further plans for a mining base.
This dilithium deposit could be extremely rewarding and provide massive amount of resources for the Federation. Thus secrecy, as much as it conflicts with an officer's first duty, must be maintained for now. One day though the truth will be spoken, but not at this time. It would be too risky.

The Avalon went to escort several ambassadors to Risa, just in proper time for the beginning of a celebration on the planet. I can assume most crew members will head to the surface for off-duty rest.
A minor day overall, if it weren't for the fact we were informed that a cadet squad had one of their members kidnapped a few days ago. The squad was led by Ed Hunter. If possible, we will assist him on the matter, though I believe it may not be a bad thing to inquire him personally on more details about the incident.

Our Commanding Officer John Sanders was recently demoted back to Captain, and excluded from the upcoming trial of Hromar Williams. Though the fact he was returned to Captain was something he and I discussed in private. Both he and I clearly had several theories as to why he would have been demoted, including possible involvement from Section 31.
I have sent a message to Baahnil so he can discreetly contact Admiral Chakotay on the matter. We may be able to have a better position on where to act once he will answer. On the matter of Section 31, if they are involved, then I do know one individual that may or may not be related to them. Ed Hunter, who is the father of the kidnapped Jason Hunter. Considering the possible connections, perhaps he could be very willing to assist us to recover his son.

Captain Sanders unofficially authorized me to leave the Avalon in order to speak with Admiral Cai'lyn on the matter of a delicate subject. According to a source, he believes Admiral Andrew Blake, possibly a former member of Starfleet Security to have been responsible for the construction of several illegal prison sites that Chavek was threatening to reveal. Therefore, it is likely Blake may have a hand in the kidnapping of Jason Hunter. But in order to find out more, I will contact Starfleet Intelligence. But doing so from the Avalon could raise suspicion, so I sent out instructions for Admiral Cai'lyn to rendezvous with me in an isolated area. I also made sure to modify the Avalon's records so that the systems pretend I am still on board. I should be approaching the rendezvous point soon now.

The Avalon was dispatched on a supply mission to Veyga 3, a planet under Klingon occupation. Of course this meant extreme precautions due to the fact we are still considered to be at war with the Klingon Empire.
Once we arrived at the planet, and following the message from the leading Klingon on the planet, I decided it would be safer if I led the away team instead of Captain Sanders. Myself, Lieutenant Sh'eoii, Lieutenant Maus and Doctor Whitlock went on the surface to confirm the location for the transport of the medical supplies and oversee the repairs of the damaged communications array.
On the surface however, we were met with Doctor Heldich Tel'Kes, who was responsible for curing the degenerative disease on Proxy Nidor, yet had done so with absolutely no regard for the basic medical oaths, and has no actual desire to aid people. He only wants fame.
How a man like him can be a competent doctor is beyond me.
He seemed far too interested in counting his exploits, though he explained that he had been on the planet at the time the Klingons invaded it, and that he managed to get himself recruited to assist the Klingons with medical assistance.
In any case, we went on to deal with ensuring that the transport location was perfect for the medical supplies, while I also followed the doctor to the communications array, where I effected repairs.
Repairs were done, transport of the medical supplies was also done perfectly. Everyone did their tasks as expected.
Though I admit I rarely get...irritated by individuals, this doctor certainly is one.
We returned on the Avalon with no other problems before departing for Cracking Station 47. Apparently Hortas have been found on board and will be transported on the mining station where they will no doubt be more useful.

The secondary objective of the away team was to uncover traces of a mysterious biological agent believed to be a bio-weapon was a success. Some was recovered before we returned to the Avalon. As for the communications array, I discovered it was sabotaged. Captain Sanders spoke of rebels still fighting the Klingon occupation. Most likely it was their effort. However, Doctor Tel'Kes' presence on Veyga 3 is also suspicious. He was able to cure a genetical disease. Assisting in creating a bioweapon may not be too far for him.
Furthermore, during our time on the planet, he boasted about how he was developing a way for slaves used by Klingons to not be affected by the cold in difficult climate. But apparently, his method consists of making the body believe that cold temperature is warm. However, if what he did was simply to lower the tolerance point for the body to warn about cold, not only will it make it nigh impossible for those altered to act in places with normal temperatures, much less highly temperate climates. And, above all else, it seems more like his method only removes the body's primary method of warning against the cold, which means the slaves would still be affected by the cold, and thus die to cold exposure. Whether the Klingons will notice how inefficient his treatment is remains to be seen.
And this has even made me think further. If that is what he is capable of...How can he has managed to somehow cure such a massive degenerative condition for an entire species? Not to mention this man seems completely oblivious to insults, and barely seem able to understand proper facts. Could he simply be a pretender that claims the glory of success at the expend of others? I think I will want to see about investigating further into what really happened on Proxy Nidor, as well as how he discovered the cure. Turning an individual into an antidote dispersal agent is far from being acceptable, in terms of medical ethics. True, I understand how it can seem fine, given my lack of ethics, but everyone else on the Avalon were simply disgusted by his work.
If that man only stole the work of others to make himself a hero, then I will see what can be done to uncover it, and then I will disgrace that 'hero'. Should I be correct, then I can already envision his dejected expression when his fame will be utterly destroyed.

Captain Sanders ordered me to take the Excalibur as part of a fleet to stop the exchange between Vice Admiral Blake and Senator Chavek. Led by Captain Starsinger of the Providence, the fleet went to the Aefhirr Nebula where we found Blake's Flagship, the Paladin along with a squadron of Borg-enhanced Federation ships, facing against several Tal Shiar-aligned ships, including a few of their hybrid ships and a Tulwar Dreadnaught led by Chavek.
Captain Starsinger confronted Admiral Blake, but he ultimately surrendered, unwilling to fire on fellow Federation ships. This made it easier for us to recover Captain Jason Hunter who had already been transferred onboard his ship, albeit in a very unstable condition. I beamed myself on board the Paladin to assist the infiltration team in order to pacify him.
Unfortunately things soon turned for worse, as Chavek triggered a Borg subspace emitter on his ship, which called for a Borg Unimatrix Ship to come here. It severely damaged the Paladin while I was able to beam off with Hunter back to the Excalibur.
A portion of the Tal Shiar ships fled, but others were subdued, mainly the Tulwar Dreadnaught. The Avalon also arrived with reinforcements at that moment to assist us against the Unimatrix ship.
However in the end, Vice Admiral Blake sacrificed himself to aid us by ramming his ship into the Unimatrix ship. Tomalar's corpse was also recovered, killed by Senator Chavek who was seized by our infiltration teams, who also recovered another captured individual, heavily indoctrinated.
I admit I had not a high opinion of Admiral Blake, considering he was willing to violate some of the principles of the Federation when he built illegal prisons to hold individuals without proper trials. Yet when it mattered, he stood to the ideals of the Federation. He would not fire upon other Federation ships, and he went as far as sacrificing his life for us all, and for his crew.
I suppose that officially, he will be viewed as a hero, while his darker deeds will be ignored. But I suppose it may not be problematic.
I was congratulated on a work well done today as the mission was over. This is the 2nd time that I had to directly command the Excalibur as a standalone ship without the Avalon in proximity, and thus to act as Captain of my own ship. And I certainly recall that the first time I was put under such situation, I had difficulty coping with the fact that those I wanted to safe chose self-destruction instead.
This time, I find myself understanding, and accepting Admiral Blake's decision of self-sacrifice. I suppose I am learning.

The Avalon was to proceed with a series of battle drills, but we were interrupted with the arrival of Carly Hunter of the Mirror Universe on board the ISS Excalibur, who requested asylum, offering her cybernetic technology, with the promise it could remove all Borg implants as well as granting immortality. A rather dubious claim.
Her claim was validated when I took her to be examined by Doctor Whitlock. Her claim is mainly to offer others to have cybernetic bodies like hers. However I doubt that it would actually manage to free one from all remains of the Collective's influence, no matter how many implants remaining in their bodies. Captain Jean-Luc Picard would be one example of an individual who remained haunted by the Collective, despite having all implants removed.
As for her second claim of immortality, that again is doubtful. Her cybernetic body actually retained a 2.8%, rounded up organic portion which would no doubt be a part of her brain. And while a brain may be able to function for a larger amount of years without an organic body to limit it, that organic portion would deteriorate in time.
The only 'true immortality' that I would know of is Borg Assimilation. This is mainly due to the fact that Borg nanoprobes and implants constantly regenerate the cellular structure of the drone, including the brain. Therefore, a drone is technically immortal, able to live forever, until it is too damaged to be repaired.
A fact further compounded when I encountered a future incarnation of myself, the Borg Primaxis. Her physical appearance remained mostly unchanged, further adding credit to that.
Though, it is not hard to determine that the cost of such immortality would be far too great for any individual to be willing to obtain it. One could say it would cost one's very soul to obtain such immortality.
But I digress. The ISS Avlaon also arrived in our universe, demanding the return of the mirror Carly Hunter and the ISS Excalibur. With the USS Excalibur as well as some hacking in their systems, we were able to destroy the ISS Avalon and then headed for Starbase 146.
There we will proceed with disembarking all non-essential personnel in order to prepare for a colonial evacuation mission we may have to be ready for in three days, as the Avalon will be joining the Exodus in a mission to the B'Tran Cluster.
It was not hard for me to understand the Collective will be involved. I will make myself ready for it. As well as readjusting my neural transciever for new blocking subroutines to ensure the Collective does not try to reach to me.

The Avalon was en route for Risa in order to deposit several members of the ship that were planning to be on extended leave for a week until we were interrupted by a call from the Minerva. The research ship had detected a scanning beam coming from the surface of Volkor 3, which had scanned their ship. Furthermore that planet only had a Neanderthal-level primitive society living there.
I ordered the Avalon to change course to investigate the matter, much to the detriment of those who were supposed to go on leave.
Arriving at the planet in question, we located the scanning beam's source coming from a facility in the middle of a primitive village. However once we were inside, a damping field raised itself, which prevented us from transporting out.
A puzzle was present inside, once triggered, seemed to activate a sort of feeding process for the primitives of this planet. They had somehow become addicted to the distribution system of this facility.
It took us some time, but with scavenged components from inactive consoles, Commander Fearos was able to disable the facilities in a safe manner so as not to trigger a fatal reaction that would have killed the entire primitive species. We were then able to beam back to the Avalon afterward.
Though apparently some sort of signal was sent from the facility as it was disabled, headed for the galatic rim. Whatever it was, we may never truly know.
We resumed our course for Rise and dropped Captain Sanders and his family as well as the Hunters there for their week of shore leave. In the meantime, I will be in full command of the Avalon.

While the Avalon was on an exploration mission in the Sphere, we received a distress call from a Voth Defector named Sanan Vaal of the Circle of Metallurgy. Because the ship was in low altitude and within an ion storm, we sent the Excalibur under my command to recover the professor.
While we recovered the Voth and began to debrief him as we prepared to leave the platform where we met him, he was transported away by the Voth Inquisitors who then sought to capture the Excalibur. Fortunately the Avalon came from a battle against a Voth Bastion Cruiser to assist us as we went into pursuing the Voth ships and we were then able to beam back Sanan Vaal back on board thanks to an emitter planted on him by Commander V'arek.
We have returned to the Avalon and set course back to the Spire. As for our new guest, he is no doubt shaken, but alive. He will be attended to, then we may begin to properly debrief him.
