Pronounced: Kay-shan
A feline based race established in TOR the animated series.
Star Trek Online has done a lot to establish their own version of Catians. As being militaristic and a race excelling in ground combat and abilities. So what you find after this is what was put together from other sources before STO changed the rules. I still use this old information for my own RP purposes.
Caitians have a life span that is equivalent to Humans. If they manage to survive past 70 from heart issues. Because of this genetic heart defect, Caitian hospitals are known throughout the galaxy as being the leading experts in heart condition treatment. The maturity rate of a caitian is equivalent to 10 years. Which would be comparable to a human 18 year old. Due to this, caitians enter Starfleet earlier then humans. This doesn't mean they are promoted faster, only they get a head start in when they can start climbing the ladder.
Few Caitians enter Starfleet, and the ones who do, do it for loyalty. The ones who do join Starfleet are mostly doctors or scientist, and even a smaller percentage are engineers. Never will you see a Caitian as a Tactical officer. (Note: Because STO gives Caitains some awesome ground abilities, they make excellent ground combatants. Which in the hands of a Competent PvPer, can even beat Klingon PvPers.) Caitian society revolves around loyalty. Once you considered a friend to a Caitian, you have a loyal friend for life.
Normal Caitian society is that of Pacifists. Extremely peaceful and forgiving. Rarely do Caitians hold a grudge. Because of this attitude, caitians are practicing vegetarians, though are omnivores. (There is a lot of conflicting information, some websites say they are carnivores, while the FASA RPG books say they are vegetarians, you can see with which way I went. Because of this, we explain it off as the region of the planet you came from as to whether which diet you prefer to eat.) Another factor of their physiology, caitians can not drink alcohol as it is a poision to them. Synthohal Can be drank, but it gets them drunk really fast, and then they become extremely sick afterwards.
The Caitian language consists of multiple soft tones, spoken with a deep, purring resonance; this style of communication makes it difficult for the Caitians to adapt to phonetic languages.
Depending on how you want to handle this. While I RP my caitians as "Good Morrrning, Mew sslept like a kitten lasst night." This is my own personal touch and this is not required.
All though the costume designer makes us use shoes, caitians very rarly, if ever, wear shoes. They have pads on their feet in which they walk on, which is a contributor to their ability to move silently. Caitian Hearing is excellent, even hearing into ultra high frequency ranges. Because of this, Caitains made for excellent Communications officers. Well tied in with the fact that Caitians are even more intelligent then Vulcans are. A Caitian on a crew is highly prized for their intelligence and their peaceful demeanor and loyalty to the federation. Since there are so little that actuly serve in Starfleet.
Lets Face it, Relationship in a RP setting do happen. With so little information about Caitians, most of us wing it as we go. Caitians are played as having a 4.5 month Gestation Period. When birth is given, it is one offspring at a time, and very rarely are twins born. Triplets are unheard of. Once a Caitian takes a mate, they are together for life or one of them dies. There is no such thing as a divorce. Their loyalty to their Mate is unbreakable. The cubs are normally raised by the parents but passing them off to extended Family to better round out their life experience happens as well since Caitian Family plays a large part in their lives.
Cubs are not named till they are 1 year old in Human years for comparison. Which puts the child at about 2 years old maturity for the Caitian. Their first letter of their name is given as a reflection of their personality. By this time in their life, their mannerisms are established, and very rarely does it change after this.
R - strong willed/ stubborn
P - sympathetic/ empathic
L - thoughtful
S - curious
K - protective/ hunter's instinct
M - graceful/ calm
N - content
V - impulsive
T – gregarious
Also of note is caitian history. While there is multiple versions (again, due to conflicting sources), One thing is generally accepted. Caitains began as nomadic tribes, rotating farmland and 'cattle' (vegetarianism, is a more recent, conscious choice to caitian society), and also often, comming into contact and conflict with each other. One story (possibly myth), is that at one point, a notable tribe leader proposed the creation of 'translators', or discs that told who the owning tribe knew, and that this, over the centuries, stopped the conflict, and eventually led to Caitians forming more permanent settlements.
From this, we can deduce that different tribes and families had there own God's, or God. In rp, you can take this any way you want. One notable exception is the story of the White Furred Caitian. There is no recorded evidence of a Caitian with white fur, nor does the color seem to be in the genome. Yet, it is still a popular bedtime story mother's tell there young cub's, the exact details of said story, being unknown.
