The second Federation starship to bear the name Exodus was first launched in the year 2286, then commissioned as the USS United Nations, NCC -41738. It was sent out on a mission of exploration under the command of Captain John Thomas Kyle.
GRO J1655-40 Incident
In 2292, the ship was sent to investigate a black hole, designation GRO J1655-40. Even though the starship maintained the appropriate distance from the black hole as it ran scientific scans, an asteroid accelerated by the black hole's gravity well slingshot, and smashed into the USS United Nation's front port saucer section. The ship suffered massive casualties and heavy structural damage. Adrift and without power, the ship was slowly pulled in by the black hole, as the surviving crew worked day and night to keep life support operating. The crew managed to prevent the ship from being pulled into the event horizon, but ended being accelerated themselves as they slingshot around it. As they accelerated to 0.9999888749828188% The speed of light, time dilation went into effect, and while 5 months passed for the crew, 70 years had passed for the rest of the galaxy. From a crew compliment of 850, only 325 survived. Casualties included many of the senior staff, including the Captain.
Relaunch as a research vessel
Once the limping ship was far enough from the event horizon of the black hole, it was rescued and towed back to Earth Spacedock, where it recieved it's first refit. Many of the crew decided to resign from Starfleet, but 185 chose to stay on board. The major hull breaches in the saucer section were patched and an additional repair, service and command crew were added to the crew, bringing the total complement up to 245. Commander Tiana Imidail RasTalon was placed in command, and she authorized that the remaining empty crew quarters would be converted to data storage banks. The ship was renamed the USS Exodus, registry NCC-92131-A, and relaunched as a science research vessel.
For the following year, The Exodus' primary mission was the study of Abiogenesis (The study of the origin of life). To accomplish this task, The ship specialized in running low orbit high resolution scans, and conducting research into single cell biology. To accomplish this, newly formed planetoids had to be found on long range scans, and examined at various stages of development. The research has not produced any tangible insight into the emergence of single celled life so far.
The structural damage from the J1655 incident proved to be persistent and the ship suffered technical difficulties for many months. When the primary power and propulsion systems failed, the ship was put into drydock for a massive refit. During this time Tiana was assigned as a temporary helmsman aboard the USS Tiberius.
Refit and reassignment
With the completion of the refit, recently promoted Captain Tiana Rastalon was placed back in command of the Exodus. Part of the refit added a controversial and experimental Artificially Intelligent Sentient Core. The A.I helps manage secondary and tertiary systems and is capable of taking over major systems in an emergency, however this causes degradation of control in the systems the A.I normally manages. The A.I is capable of being deployed outside the ship as cyber warfare, which also degrades on-board ship functions.
The ship was assigned to serve as a patrol and supply vessel along the Cardassian border, with Deep Space Nine as its base of operations. New senior officers were recruited to head many of the ships' operational departments.
Several weeks later the ship was reassigned under the command of the Federation Diplomatic Corps, with Starbase 146 as it's base of operations. The ship currently makes regular visits to the Embassy on New Romulus, Starbase 146, and Deep Space Nine.
With the transfer of Admiral Abriel-Kell from the diplomatic corps the Exodus is currently part of the 146th fleet proper, as directed by Admiral Starsinger, and is second in command of the taskforce under the U.S.S Avalon.
Encounter With Borg
After a fateful battle with a Borg cube, the Exodus was forced to evacuate her stardrive section, and separate the saucer. Shortly after, the Stardrive was ordered to be destroyed. During the battle, the Resolute class U.S.S. Paul Revere suffered catastrophic Saucer damage, and was forced to ditch it.
Captain Rastalon ordered an emergency reintegeration of the Exodus saucer and the Paul Revere's Stardrive, and the two have combined to preform as one complete starship ever since, once the technical difficulties had been ironed out.
