"Personal log, supplemental
"Today's shift was most ... stressful. I doubt anyone on the station will term the day's events any less so. However, as officer of the watch, I failed to keep everything running as smoothly as possible during a crisis. This was most disturbing.
"Unfortuntately, the crisis has only abated slightly for the moment. Whatever intelligence that followed the USS Alder to Starbase 146 still remains in the vicinity, if not in some hidden corner of the starbase, perhaps even in the computer core itself. Scans to locate any corporeal manifestation were fruitless; only high concentrations of photonic particles. The artificial intelligence aboard the USS Exodus made several attempts to communicate and defend against the other lifeforce. 'She' received limited feedback, save for some references to Earth's holy books.
"Then again, the entity did broadcast a most curious montage of clips from Earth's history; sounds of assurance and strength, the sounds of innocence and joy, followed by an indication that ... someone ... held the ability to provide support and life or to destroy life. After, echoes of sadness, threats, fear, the idea that the entity could have all the time it needs. And yet, closing with the phrase, 'no place like home.'
"Strangely, I did not sense any sign of the presence telepathically. Admittedly, I was concentrating heavily on the business at hand. Even Commander Yolud came upon me by surprise, something that rarely happens. Did I miss something?
"Regardless of the conundrum, several starship captains have reported their displeasure at the lack of information on the crisis. Information that I could, I should have given. Indeed, had events turned worse, we would have needed them to assist in evacuation. Their resources could have also been put towards a solution; however, I did not see to that option, possibly risking those ships without news on the status.
"I will be submitting my report on the incident to Commander Yolud, along with the requests of the concerned captains. I also intend to submit a request for a transfer. I believe this post may be too great for me, and that service aboard a starship would better suit my skills."
