I'm not a wordy person, but I've got to get something out here that I think the fleet needs, BADLY. (And you have no idea how tempted I am to start quoting scripture after the last RP.)
Encouraging a person to improve.
Focus on what they do right, encourage them to keep doing it. When you tell someone they've done something right, they will continue to do the proper thing, and grow and improve as time goes on as they observe others doing things right.
Never come across with something along the lines of "I'm better than you and here's why." If you are using your years of experience as an excuse to belittle someone, you need to rethink how you're giving criticism, cause I'll tell you right now that it doesn't encourage people to improve.
Short version? Use the carrot, not the sledgehammer to the head.

I'm bumping this cause I hear people might need a reminder.

Good call. We really do need more pats on the back when people see something they like about the RPers' actions. People are pretty good about complimenting the GM after a session, but not so much with each other. It would be nice to see more of it when applicable.

Little suggestion: Send someone a compliment in a tell next time you see something cool, or just to let them know you appreciate them.
