Computer Begin Captain's Log Supplemental Stardate 91317.81
Methuselah has dropped out of warp on the outer edges of the Badlands after detecting photon weapon detonations outside of our usual patrol route. We've begun to probe the region with long range sensors but so far have detected nothing since the original. Whomever or whatever caused it has either fled the scene or was destroyed in the explosion. My instincts tell me I should move to investigate despite the danger the plasma storms represent to the Methuselah's hull. More than likely the detonation was a couple of smugglers or pirates settling differences but I feel it is my duty as a Starfleet officer to see the truth for myself and not sit at a safe distance and rely on long range sensors.
I hope I am right and this is nothing. I hope this old frigate can take what the Badlands has to throw at it. There's a certain unsettled feeling I get whenever I think about what makes this place up. Plasma; electrically neutral medium of unbound positive and negative particles, or so the science officers say. To me it's just hot and burning; primal fire of creation and destruction. Terrifying thought and yet here I go about to fly a tiny little ship right into the stuff. Just another day on the job.

It took some time but we've made it back out of the Badlands and have; upon finding near our exit point a Freighter, decided to escort the Freighter S.S. Albatross to Deep Space Nine. After which we'll be returning to Starbase 146 for repairs. We are en route now.
The venture into the Badlands was for naught but I feel it was a necessary risk to investigate. Upon arrival at the location of the Photon Detonation we detected we found little more than some charred scrap metal; likely from the hull of a ship that had been burned to almost nothing by the regions roiling plasma storms. We beamed the fragments into containment just in case they may carry some clue and set course back out of the Badlands.
That's when things got bad. If not for the skill of our helmsman we might have suffered far worse than we did. A whorl of plasma started right on top of us and overheated the port impulse drive. Engineers say it will hold until we return to base but it's going to need some love. Worse yet we suffered some plasma burns to the outer hull and two hull breaches on deck three aft section. No casualties thankfully.
I question the wisdom of sending an old single hull vessel like this to patrol a plasma storm more and more but I know we're stretched. My patrol route doesn't actually enter the storm but I am also not going to ignore signs of something I should look into within either. I know Methuselah is only here to serve as a deterrent for the raiders and pirates, but that wont stop me from being a Starfleet officer. I wont turn a blind eye just because of a little danger.
On a final note; Ensign Filva deserves a commendation. She flew an outdated ship with one overheated engine through a Plasma Storm. It was impressive work.

Computer Begin Captain's Log Stardate 91324.231 We've returned to Starbase 146 after escorting the S.S. Albatross to Deep Space Nine. We decided to make a stop at the station for some supplies and a little shore leave before we made the trip back. I took the time to visit Quark's for a couple hours. Was only my second time being in the place. Lively but it mostly makes me miss the bar back on Starbase 39. I knew people there, here its mostly strangers and even stranger strangers. Talked with a few nice enough folk for a bit. I get a feeling I'll see some of them again. Either way we're back at 146 now. Methuselah is in drydock to affect the repairs to the hull breaches and the port impulse drive. The Engineers assured me it wouldn't take more than twenty-four hours so it must not have been as bad as it seemed when we were out there in that storm. If only they could throw a secondary hull on while they are at it. I've given the crew all some station-time while we're stuck in drydock. They deserve it after their performances out their. Patrol boating is a thankless job most days but they do it anyways. Then again if you want thanks Starfleet probably isn't the right place to work. Now... to see what I can find to keep busy while we're stuck here... Computer End Recording. File and send.

Methuselah has resumed patrol duties following the necessary repairs to the hull on deck three and the replacement of the primary driver coil for the port impulse engine. It feels good to be back out working. The atmosphere on Starbase 146 is oppressive and caustic and I was happy to be back out in the endless expanse with only my crew and ship. I'm going to try avoiding entering the Badlands for a while if I can help it. Methuselah is a stubborn old man but those storms shake his bough. I am happy to report thus far no sightings of consequence have been made along Patrol Route Cardassia-283Alpha.
Additionally Operational Command of A.P.A.R.T. has been returned as of 1900 Hours to Captain Alderman of the U.S.S. Claren. Feels good to have that weight lifted off my shoulders; I know part of the job as a Starfleet officer is protecting the innocent and upholding laws but I never wanted a big command like that. I like my little patrol boat, It's simple and clean. All of that said I was flattered that Captain Alderman trusted myself and Methuselah to get the job done in her stead while the Claren was drydocked for repairs.

Methuselah engaged Nausicaan pirates in the process of attacking a convoy of freighters en route to Denobula from the Omehkla System at 1437 hours. The pirates were small in number so they fled when we arrived on the scene. There were no casualties and few injuries among the convoy luckily. I had a medical team beamed over to the lead Tuffli to treat the wounded before we allowed them to continue on their way.
I had Chief Petty Officer Graks track the warp trails of the Nausicaan raider vessels as they fled in hopes we might follow them to their hole. Once we had finished giving aid I sent a call message to Commander Rokhelh about the situation in case we do manage to locate the pirate's staging area as Methuselah will need the help of a larger vessel.
We are currently following the trail at Warp 7.4, thus far it has not gone cold. I am hopeful that we might uproot these criminals. It's hard out here in space for all of us these days without pirates and their ilk running amok. More information as I have it.

We have been on the trail of the Nausicaan raiders for just over eight hours at this time. They took a rather circuitous route in what I can only assume was an attempt to lose us. Chief Petty Officer Graks has kept at tracking them for the entire time now, his devotion to the job should be noted. The trail has turned now to lead us once again into the Badlands. I've contacted Captain Alderman to apprise her of the situation to this point and made preparations to give chase. Commander Rokhelh has been updated as well. He seems wary; as he should be, of the Badlands but prepared to do what must be done.
Methuselah will be entering the badlands in five minutes. Hopefully we can avoid the storms this time long enough to find the Nausicaans hiding place and call reinforcements. We may have scared the rats off from the freighters but they're on home turf now; they wont be easy to uproot. I have every confidence in my crews ability to accomplish this mission, lets just hope Methuselah decides he's still got it in him too.

We've followed the raiders to their hideout located deep within the Badlands. The Methuselah suffered some minor damage from the plasma storms but the Chief assures me she's combat ready. I've decided it is best for us to call reinforcements and await them given the number of Nausicaan vessels present. We've been watching them from a distance on low power in the calm of one of the plasma whorls. Hopefully this has kept us off their sensors. Thus far Methuselah has detected no less than half a dozen Nausicaan Raider escort vessels, two Vandal destroyers, and a Scourge destroyer. Of course not to mention their little hiding hole; an asteroid base, which I am quite sure has defenses of its own.
Encrypted subspace communique have been sent out to all A.P.A.R.T. vessels as well as Starbase one four six and other nearby patrol craft. It is my hope we can root out these Pirates here and now. For now Methuselah will remain in cover for as long as he can and observe, report, and wait.

Another long patrol finished. We've been taking our patrols a lot slower the past few days after a request from one four six sciences asking us a favor. I'm wishing I hadn't complied now. High resolution scans of the Badlands. Methuselah's sensors are not the most advanced but they are more than capable, it just takes time. Slow and steady. Luckily we've had few interruptions in the past three days. It's calmed down a bit after the Pirate Base incident. I think we shook up the balance, the raiders seem more wary of showing their faces.
In other news Yeoman Ives had her baby after eleven hours in labor. Doctor Klarc was happy to announce she was now the mother of a healthy baby girl. Once we return to Starbase one four six the Yeoman will be on medical leave for the time being. The Yeoman was gracious enough to allow me to witness the birth. It was while gross, fascinating at the same time. There's an almost tangible feeling of importance to the event, like the universe itself knows that a birth is important. I'd never noticed it before. That or I could have been suffering some sort of mental trauma from it. Either way I am thankful to have been there.
We'll be requisitioning a replacement replicator for the cafeteria upon our return as the one we have currently is making everything taste of some form of earthen bird. A fact that some of our Human crewman seem to find most amusing. They said it was an old joke. I for one do not see the humor.

I am currently en route to Risa with seven other members of the crew aboard the U.S.S. Cherubim. I'm looking forward to some downtime in the suns. I'm told the oceans are salt based so I'll have to limit my exposure to those but otherwise Risa sounds like a paradise! The excitement among the crew is palpable. This is my first time visiting the pleasure planet but those among the crew who've been there before are practically vibrating with anticipation.
In other news Yeoman Ives sent me a message telling me that things are stressful but good back on Starbase 146 for her and the baby. I've heard that Humanoid child rearing was quite arduous but I am most sure she's up to the task. She seems exuberant despite a lack of sleep. She apparently plans to return to Earth within the month and stay with some family for a while. I'm happy for her.
My flowering season beginning at the same time as my vacation is a source of minor agitation but nature works in mysterious ways I guess. I don't know much of the flora of Risa but I have a sinking feeling I'll need to educate myself about them just in case.
Lastly Methuselah has been left in the hands of my XO and shall continue her duties until my return within the month. I'm sure the ship will keep them safe while I'm away, he's a good old man.
