Recently, i got hte inspiration to start a carrier based rp. I noticed that all of the current Teller's rp ships are essentially the same. (Just my opinion. Please don't hurt me. D: ) I think a little variation might be nice. At the moment, this is just a forming idea, so i'd love to hear peoples takes on this.

Not the worst idea I've heard. Aside from flight operations though, would the core of the RP be drastically different?

There used to be an rp ship called the U.S.S. Independance that was carrier based rp. Basically you're rping on the lower decks rather than on the bridge. This used to be GM'd by HS as I recall.

Essentially, its a normal ship, with a split focus, since you have pilots, and what point is there to having pilots unless they frequently go out.

I'm all for it. Having a bit of a change in pace regarding the positions could be a very welcome one, and personally, I'd love to see more RP on the lower decks side of things as opposed to the Bridge.

So just some things to consider regarding Carriers:
We've had three RP ship carriers in The Storytellers in the past (in order):
* The I.K.S. Charg (Back when Carriers were the unique specialty of the KDF)
* The U.S.S. Independence (focused on lower decks/fighter and maintenance crew.)
* The U.S.S. Victory (More traditional ship but with fighter pilots).
These were all three well loved RP and died because of specific reasons (Charg was on Friday nights and often had low turn out cause what loser sits in his room playing video games on Friday night? Independence died due to a GM burn out on focusing solely on combat and an inability to come up with more stories. Victory died for similar reasons to Indie AND a requirement for a very large PC crew compliment which was not there... more on this in a bit.)
Carriers represent a large man power investment if you want the fighter pilots to play a role as you have to get crew for both of those, and some support/repair folks. Additionally, you have the added position of the CAG, who is the commander of the Wings on the carrier. In the U.S. Navy and Victory these are Captain level ranks and have control only on the aircraft on the ships (The Ship's Captains control the ship itself) and make each carrier basically two working units under a Rear Admiral who commands the Carrier, the Wing, and all the ships in the Carrier Group. This requires a good deal more players than what is typical.
On Independence and Charg, these were bridge officers, with Indie focusing only on the CAG's command and the rest of the ship was under the command of a Captain. With Charg, it was an Lt. Commander who basically shouted orders to NPC fighters and Charg operated as regular RP ship beyond that.
Also, bear in mind we have a few resources already in place if you want to look into getting this off the ground: U.S.S. Montreal is the successor to U.S.S. Victory as the fleet's "Super Carrier" and is Captained by Looney. If you want to use it as an RP ship in some way, that would be awesome.
In addition, I'm trying to gather crew for Starbase 146 and as part of that Crew, I have a "Flight Officer" who is responsible for all ship movements in the Starbase system as well as the patrols for further out of the tachyon detection grid. I'd be very interested in turning that into a full blown RP night as we can get some really cool RPs going from that (as a station close to the Badlands and Na'kuhl, both big hot spots in the current game story, those are a wealth of fun plots right there, not including things such as the Random Runnabout initiative I was going for).
In addition, if variety is needed for the RP ships, you may also want to consider a Romulan Ship (never had one, but I can't imagine it wouldn't be interesting to work on Romulan Ship doctrine) or a Klingon ship (Klingon side typically lives and dies by whether we have an RP ship on it).
Also keep in mind this will be the 5th RP Crew that is active in the fleet. Go fleet if we can do it, cause that's a new milestone for us and a real positive for us getting back to being active. Just don't be surprised if we have a lack of response cause the alts simply aren't there. This isn't meant to discourage you at all, I certainly would like to see more different and interesting RP coming around, and of course you'll have the full support of the Pathfinders for this. Just wanted to let you know of some things from my experience with participating in our past three, very much beloved carriers.

Question...what is the fourth rp crew?
Also, what class is the Montreal?

I believe the 4 Fed-side RP ships are Avalon, Exodus, Claren (And old Galaxy run by Ana and Ryft, currently on hiatus) and now the Foundation. And if I recall correctly, the Montreal is a Jupiter-class starship.

Ah. Hmm...Jupiter might work. But I was kinda hoping for a CBC or maybe a HEC. Especially the later. An Armitage or Alite would make it harder for people to just bull their way through.

Command BattleCruisers and Heavy Escort Carriers.
Additionally, I was unaware that the Starbase was considered it's own RP group (I included Claren because I was informed that it is still an RP ship, albeit currently on hiatus due to something on Ana's end, don't quote me on that one), considering it doesn't seem to have a regularly scheduled timeframe for RP sessions and whatnot. But it's entirely possible I'm simply not on at the time; I've been quite busy with schoolwork recently and haven't had much time for STO other than slotting Admiralty assignments.

Ah. Yeah. I suck at acronyms.
I haven't seen Claren since the new year and I haven't seen ryft or Ana in as much time. Starbase will be open up at the end of the month and we have a casting call and will be doing some stuff with the Vindicated in less time if we get crew.

Vindicated is the Defiant (I say Defiant, but I believe it's a Sao Paulo)-class starship attached to Starbase 146.

My thought? I'm joking about the sudden influx of quickstart rp ships right as I finally am ready to try one.
