The former flagship of the Sixth Fleet, the Lexington (NCC-91709-B) was commissioned on Stardate 93335.56, from the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards, orbiting Mars. USS Lexington is the third Federation Starship, and the first Odyssey-class ship, to bear the name. USS Lexington is named for the city of Lexington, Massachusetts, as well as a long line of United States Naval vessels which carried the name.
Attached to the USS Lexington is the ''Aquarius''-class light escort, USS ''Heinlein'' (NCC-92564). The vessel is named in honor of author Robert A. Heinlein (July 7, 1907 – May 8, 1988) who served aboard USS Lexington, CV-2, as an Ensign.
Having barely been launched from Utopia Planitia shipyards at Mars, Lexington was rushed into service in September 2415 under the command of Rear Admiral Stephany Adams in order to bolster the Bajor sector during the later days of the Iconian War.
In late 2415, the ship decisively led the Sixth Fleet in the final battle of the Iconian War in the Milky Way - the Battle of Earth, in which she and the 6th Fleet bolstered the fleet's efforts to hold and divert the Herald fleet attack Mars from reinforcing the fleet assualt Sol III.
The Lexington was stood down as the Sixth Fleet Flagship when the Sixth Fleet was amalgamated into the 146th Fleet, with Rear Admiral Adams taking a voluntary demotion to Captain, keeping command of Lexington, and answering to Vice Admiral Starsinger.
