Captain's log, Stardate 88583.4 *Vilaina looks like she spent about 4 hours in Engineering getting her hands dirty. She looks somewhat content, either way.*
Repairs on the Providence are going better than planned. I told Admiral Spoon we'd be up to snuff by the end of the week, and we're going to show that fact tomorrow. The engineering crew has gotten their act together after being shown up by, Lieutenant Vera Aran. The warp drive will be back up to where it needs to be in about an hour, and the last hull breach patched up by tomorrow morning. Word has also reached me that the chief engineer of the Avalon has been kidnapped. We'll be watching for him if he's not returned by the time the Providence moves out. End Log.
Captain's Log, Stardate 88594.4 After an uneventful patrol, the Providence has returned to Starbase 146 for a pause. During that pause we picked up a transmission from the I.K.S. Paranor to the U.S.S. Avalon with possible information on the location of the missing chief engineer of the Avalon. We volunteered assistance without delay. The team that intended to look into the information departed on the Avalon's escort craft, the Excalibur. We made landfall undetected initially, meeting up with Commander T'Kor. At that point, our team consisted of Commander T'Kor, Captain Korzan, Lieutenant Commander J'rai, Lieutenant Rin, Myself, and an marine whose name escapes me for the moment. Commander T'Kor informed us of the Nausican base set up, a Communications array and a camp inside of a cave. Almost immediately after we determined that our attack on the Nausican camp would be two pronged and had our teams set up, we were discovered by patrolling Nausicans. Unfortunately for them, they were taken out by the sheer random chance landing of the Avalon's Android engineer. The Android, having latched onto the Excalibur's hull, had apparently jumped off the Excalibur and down to the planet...and landed precisely on the Nausicans that had found us. From that point, Commander T'Kor, Lieutenant Rin, the Android, and Myself headed for the communications array, while the others made for the cave. Upon approaching the range we needed to be at to get to the Communications array, Lieutenant Rin jammed the communications, enabling us to strike without the Nausicans calling for help. The communications array strike went off flawlessly (much to my amazement, but surprise can be one hell of an advantage), and the communications array in Nausican possession is effectively scrap. We also managed to take a prisoner, who informed us of the fact his clan was hired to merely obtain Tholian weapons, and that another group at the Xenotech conference, this group hired by Ferasans, captured the Avalon's chief engineer. A lead to follow up on at the least. I believe Captain Korzan had the Tholian weapons destroyed to keep them out of enemy hands, so they will not be a problem. End Log.
Captain's Log, Stardate 88599.8 Yesterday brought with it the location of the kidnapped Caitians, including the chief engineer of the U.S.S. Avalon. I had only picked up the investigation the night before and had started inquiring with local authorities when Captain Mav had a message sent to me discretely. It turns out that Starfleet intelligence had a lead and had forwarded it to us. Providence was ordered to jump. I immediately put in a request for a MACO team for the mission which was quickly granted. And jump we did, I had to request some volunteers as some of my senior staff were on leave or ill. All of the volunteers performed very well. We headed for the Klingon border and the edge of Ferasan space. In order to avoid detection, we activated an energy signature mask put in place by Captain Harpsong. Up until we reached the rendevouz point indicated by Starfleet Intelligence, we remained undetected. Two ships were at the rendevouz point besides us; one was the I.K.S. Paranor and the other was a carrier of a type I am unfamiliar with. The Carrier apparently detected us while we tried to listen in on comm traffic. In response to our detection, I ordered a tight beam transmission to the Paranor, as I was familiar with its Captain. Captain T'Kor and I spoke and it turns out he had remained on our side. I speculate he returned his Ferasan passenger to Ferasa. Upon departing Ferasan territory, the Paranor requested us to follow them towards the Klingon/Federation border. And once over the Klingon/Federation border, he returned all of the missing Caitians to us and allowed us to depart without issue. Following that, it was an easy trip back to Starbase 146. End Log.
Captain's Log, Stardate 88613.5 Finished up a largely uneventful weekend patrol. Aside from some Orion Pirates thinking it was funny to raid the shipping lanes between Sol and Starbase 146, in the Providence's sensor range anyway. Unfortunately for their three frigates, I didn't share their sense of humor. They were handled appropriately, and not one of them surrendered. What a waste. Since when is latinum from selling stolen goods worth your life? The freighter, however, was saved, and continued on it's journey. End Log. Captain's Personal Log.
The Avalon's got her new Captain now, I hear. Veteran of the Klingon War from the sound of it. Going to be quite interesting to see what happens with him and Captain T'Kor, I think. And I finally got around to looking at the message that came from Jarkonis...Ancestors, are the people on that world STUPID?! You know what...stupid question. They got up in arms over Commander RasTalon's demotion, even going so far as to start a civil war over it. Over-reaction is clearly the word of the day on that world. Should have let the Klingons have the piece of rock and its damn fool people. End Personal Log and Encrypt.
Captain's Personal Log. Oh, Ancestors keep me from doing something that will end my Starfleet Career. I got a call from my sister back home, asking for what I know about the Jarkonis situation. The Illarian Republic Council is apparently discussing the best way to word their objection to the suggestion that Jarkonis be allowed membership to the Federation. I told her the truth of what I know and my opinion: Civil rights violations were committed during their civil war; Federation weapons were used with LETHAL FORCE; and Governor Korax claimed it was because his daughter was demoted that it all started. My opinion is that Governor Korax is a silver-tongued viper who should be avoided at all costs. Not a few hours later, Admiral Arbriel-Kell was having a discussion in the bar with the Ambassador on Starbase 146 about Jarkonis. I swear, the woman kept missing the Vulcan's points by at least 300 Kilometers. If the Jarkonis people do not hold Korax responsible for what happened under his watch, or worse praise him for use of lethal force...are they really worthy of Federation Membership? ...Yeah, I was wrong, this doesn't make me feel any better about it all. Delete the whole damn log. -Log Deleted.-

Captain's Log, Stardate: 88693.0 The Providence and her crew have finally routed the nest of Orion pirates that took up residence on the Beta Ursae border. The leader of the whole thing has been taken into custody and is being shipped to a penal facility for trial along with all the others that surrendered peacefully. I'm sorry to say that some number of Orions decided death was preferable to capture. As it stands, the Providence herself took some blows, but nothing crippling. She did well. End Log.
Captain's Log, Stardate 89289.5 I was right. You can't leave home without someone throwing something into disarray. In this case, it's the Romulans, or some faction of them. Apparently someone's got a new heavy escort over there that damn near tore the Exodus in half, from what I've heard. So far I've heard two views on how to deal with the thing, destroy it or capture it.
Both views have their merits and flaws. Honestly, I'll settle for anything that levels the playing field with minimal loss of life. The unfortunate fact is, that escort may not show up again for a while, so there may be little that can be done about it. It's just as well. No matter what is ordered now, the Providence is battle ready. End Log.
Captain's Personal Log... I spoke with Captain Rastalon last night, she seems to have changed from the last time I saw her really. Less the "Avoid all fights at all costs" and more "We'll fight when we're ordered to or because that damn escort that hit my ship needs to die." I kind of like the change. If someone comes up with a plan to destroy or capture that new escort the Romulans have that involves the Exodus, I'll be happy to throw my hat into the ring to assist. End Log.
Captain's Personal Log... So it's official, John Sanders is now Admiral John Sanders. I can just hear my old academy roommate throwing jokes at this situation, but I find my thoughts on what may happen as a result. He's flag rank, and that may land him a desk job before long just so he can deal with the paperwork. I do NOT envy him. Something that does bother me though, is the potential for Avalon to end up under the command of a Borg officer. I'm not sure it's a good idea, too many unknowns with Borg technology and the collective's powers over the liberated drones. For all we know, the Borg Queen can see through the implants of a liberated at will. I pity the liberated, really. Most of them have lost the spirits that were with them before the Borg took them. Maybe such could be regained, but I don't know. I don't think they have the spirit to really command a starship. End log.
Captain's Personal Log... So, I encountered something I never thought I would ever encounter last night: A drunk romulan. Of all things, a drunk romulan. It was all I could do to keep myself from bursting into laughter. The poor girl thought the fact she was drunk after two glasses of whatever Woadie gave her was a plot by the Tal'Shiar, and that Woadie was being threatened by a battalion of Tal'Shiar forces hidden behind the bar pointing guns at him, with a sniper on the second floor and Haakeev on the third. This whole thing lead to the would be Haakeev on the third floor being a hologram really, which lead to the term "Haakeevogram." Worst message someone could ever receive. "A singing Haakeevogram." I almost did lose it at that point. Of course, Hadron had this look in his eye when the Romulan walked out...I'm willing to bet he's going to have that thing developed and try to sell it, like that's not going to cause problems. End Log.
Captain's Log, Stardate 89314. On orders from Admiral Sanders, we have taken Doctor Tel'Kes into custody from his residence on Cento V. The local government attempted to block the arrest but was unable to do so. We are due to arrive at Starbase 146 well before Admiral Sanders formally takes command of the 146th support fleet. End Log. Personal Log.
I hope Sanders let's me parade this egotistical bastard, Tel'Kes, through the concourse on the Starbase on his way to the brig...IN IRONS. End Log.
Captain's Personal Log. Mister Tel'Kes got off the hook because someone tampered with evidence. Why...just...why? How did Tel'Kes get so lucky? He deserves brig time for what he did! End log.

Vilaina sits in a chair in her quarters, out the window, the blue of the Azure Nebula can be seen... Captain's Log...
The Providence has taken up station in the Azure Nebula, our power signature is being kept to a minimum to prevent detection. The quartermaster has given us an additional four Tricobalt torpedoes, and in the fight to come, I intend to use them. I've always hated the waiting... End Log.
Captain's Log... Solius's attempt to destroy New Romulus has been defeated, but not without cost. Many lives were lost, and several ships severely damaged with a few destroyed. Solius escaped. I'm glad to say that the Providence suffered minimal damage, comparatively speaking...she's still going to need an overhaul, and several parts of her point defense array are now in desperate need of replacement. We've dropped off both the Fox and the Kusanagi with Starbase 146's shipyard in hopes they will be able to repair both ships...but I cannot say I'm hopeful for the Fox. End Log.
Captain's Log... Admiral Sanders has approved the refit of the Providence to an Armitage-class Escort Carrier, though we're currently at the back of the line for the work. As of right now, this ship is looking at 36 hours before she is once again fully repaired, fortunately we have some repair supplies from the Starbase to help things along. And again, fortunately, we don't need the use of the shipyard for repairs. I dare to think we're more ready for another fight than most ships in the fleet right now, and that worries me.
On another note, someone trying to impersonate Lieutenant Commander Itachi Rin showed up on Starbase 146. Poor girl can't get a break right now, she's just lost her first command and five members of her crew. She did a damn good job out there in the recent battle and, in this officer's opinion, she deserves a promotion or medal. And whoever came up with the idea of semi-fusing the Kusanagi and the Fox together to get them both mobile again for the rest of the Battle of Starbase 234 deserves a commendation for original thinking. I have a list of officers that I wish to recommend for posthumous commendation... Ensign Derrick Andrews Lieutenant David Brand Lieutenant Commander Jason Evans Ensign George Harrisman Ensign Karl Rhodes Lieutenant T'Kel Lieutenant Shon These men and women served exceptionally well and gave their lives at the Battle of Starbase 234. End Log. Personal Log...
I can't help but feel sorry for Rin, she lost five members of her crew, and her ship's back is pretty much broken. If someone could see spirits in space, I'm sure they'd feel as sorry for the poor Fox and her crew as I do. Everything has a spirit, and I feel the Fox's will soon depart, but that ship leaves with a pride that she did her job. She mutters something as she looks out her window towards the shipyard and the Fox... That'll do, Fox...that'll do... End Log...

Captain's Log Stardate 89439.7
I'm not sure how to put this as a log. A few days ago, I was ordered to go along as an exchange officer to the Cardassian Defense Forces in order to board and speak with the Vice-Chairman of the Tal Shiar, Senator Chavek. The subject? The whereabouts and status of Captain Jason Hunter. Senator Chavek was not forthcoming with information, and I doubt Gul Gojak's sense of humor helped with that...Klingon Opera really does not loosen the lips of a Romulan.
I did however get the sense that the arrest of Captain Hunter is a play to get an edge. In my opinion, the Romulan Empire is NOT out for Justice like they so claim, they are out to cause a problem somewhere. What problem and where are the biggest questions.
In happier news, the refit of the Providence is ahead of schedule. In a few more weeks she should be ready to go.
End Log.
Personal Log...
Looking back at the trip to speak with Senator Chavek...it felt nice to be on other side of the 'surprise spy in your room' bit.
End Log.

Captain's Log Stardate 89442.5
Last night, a call was put out for volunteers to assist the USS Hurrycan. Myself and several others responded. The ship in question required repairs and her captain was dead. Apparently this left me in command.
Repairs were swiftly completed and we were briefed fully on the situation surrounding the Hurrycan's state. The ship had responded to a distress call on a quarantined planet and was attacked by Klingons. We proceeded to the location of the distress call along with the Vindicated and the Illustrious.
Upon our arrival, we encountered a Ferengi vessel in orbit of the planet, potentially violating quarantine and most certainly not assisting anyone down on the planet. In fact, the Ferengi vessel was engaged in salvage operations. We quickly stopped the Ferengi vessel from departing and did a simultaneous check of the Ferengi vessel for signs of the virus that had prompted the quarantine and deployed an Away Team in EV suits to the planet's surface to locate the source of the distress signal.
While the away team was on the surface, and the Ferengi were being checked, we encountered the same Klingons that had attacked the Hurrycan before. The Klingon commander claimed that we were producing Bioweapons on the planet and were there to collect them, and shooting promptly started. The Klingons deployed a dampening field to keep us from beaming up the away team before any shooting started, sadly.
Some time into the battle, the Away Team located a planetary defense weapon of a torpedo like nature and fired it on the Klingons to devastating results on the Klingon vessels. It was as if multiple heavy plasma torpedoes had hit all the Klingon vessels simultaneously. The battle concluded, the Away team continued their investigation.
At that point, an EV suit was ruptured...Lieutenant Sephia, one of the away team members. She was beamed up, but a transporter accident occurred. I'm not sure what caused it, as the Klingon's dampening field was gone, and I had engineering look over the transporter systems immediately afterwards. The facts point to a power surge to the transporters that completely scrambled the Lieutenant's pattern. Potentially damage from the battle. Unfortunately that also means that damage control computers malfunctioned. The transporters were repaired quickly enough.
Following that issue, the planet started to become active. It seems the planet is a giant, automated, weapons factory. While sorting out the data, the away team was beamed up to a cylindrical vessel, not unlike the Probe that went to Earth some many years ago looking for Humpback Whales. The Library computer failed to make that connection immediately. Contact was lost with the away team at this juncture.
Attempts were made to re-establish contact with the away team, and upon realizing the Cylindrical ship may be alive contact attempts were made towards that entity as well. What we got were our own words used somewhat differently.
During these attempts, Commander Kyran opened some kind of cocoon at the request of the inhabitant. This also had the side effect of shutting down the cylindrical vessel. At this juncture, the away team plus the alien were recovered. Medical examination showed the alien to be aenar, with the exception of the ears.
Commander Kyran mentioned to us the location of what he thought to be the "on/off" switch for the planet's factories and someone was sent to shut off the planet. That mission was performed quickly enough and the man returned without issue.
Afterwards a new quarantine buoy was placed in orbit, and we headed back to Starbase 146 with some complaining Ferengi in tow.
All crew of the Hurrycan performed well and all volunteers who came on the mission performed well.
End Log.

Personal Log...
So last night, Lieutenant Commander Kval'Nu and I admitted we had feelings for each other. I was somewhat sure that there was something before, but now I know and I'm glad of it. More than I can put into words. I've been impressed with her, in both her skills and her personality...
Still doesn't feel I can say enough, though.

Captain's Log Stardate...crap. Computer, what's the current stardate?
Current Stardate: 89521.7
Captain's Log, Stardate 89521.7.
The trial on Monday baffles me. The defense put an Imperial Romulan General on the stand...though I'm of the impression it was from General...D'hlaren? D'Lharen's? badgering that they did it. He certainly didn't seem like someone to normally put on the stand for anything. But on the other hand, his testimony could have either hanged Lieutenant Commander Williams or got the charges dismissed, I'm not certain which. However, what I want to know is this: How in the flying hell did the motion to dismiss get overruled?
There was enough information right there and available to apply under ALL of the regulations cited to dismiss the charges. I don't understand it.
End Log.
Personal Log...
I get the feeling there's a certain Trill on the trial board that's not using the clearest thoughts to determine guilt or innocence.

Captain's Log, Stardate 89592.7
It's official: I've been promoted to Fleet Captain, and following that promotion was placed in the position of commanding a fleet sent to arrest Vice-Admiral Blake and recover Captain Jason Hunter and General Tomalar.
Prior to the launching of the mission, reliable sources turned up information that allowed us to recover the time-displaced daughter of now Commander Genrin Mav. I therefore authorized an attempt to recover the girl.
The mission started off with minimal issues. Vice-Admiral Blake and I took to verbal sparring, which resulted in combat maneuvers being performed. Requests for weapons free were rampant on both sides, neither side gave authorization to fire. Vice Admiral Blake surrendered when it became clear to him that I would not back down and we had him over a barrel. He was ordered to gather Captain Hunter and report to the Providence where he would be held.
Attention then turned to Senator Chavek and his fleet. As a note, boarding parties were sent to both the USS Paladin and Chavek's command ship as well as to the vessel that held Sonea Kelari. Senator Chavek refused to surrender in the time I had to speak with him, and Admiral Korzan's boarding party arrived on his bridge.
Senator Chavek hid behind General Tomalar and snapped the woman's neck prompting Admiral Korzan to stun him, at which point all hell broke loose. Someone on the bridge of Chavek's command ship triggered a signal to summon a Borg Unimatrix as Commander 17 and the boarding party on the USS Paladin recovered Jason Hunter.
The prompt arrival of the Unimatrix made it near impossible to capture Admiral Blake. Battle was engaged as Admiral Hsalo carried out the recovery of Sonea Kelari with his team. Reinforcements arrived and Senator Chavek was abandoned to his fate by his comrades.
Commander 17 in conjunction with the crew of the USS Exodus were able to disable the shields of the Unimatrix. Commander 17 also provided the weak point of the Unimatrix to all ships involved in the battle. Admiral Blake rammed into the target point with the USS Paladin after evacuating his crew from the ship. Naturally this caused massive damage to the Unimatrix and all available weapons were focused on finishing off the Borg command ship. As a note to Admiral Slavik, Tricobalt devices were fired into the Unimatrix prior to the sacrifice of the Paladin.
Following the destruction of the Unimatrix, Admiral Hsalo's team completed the recovery of Sonea Kelari and all ships returned to Starbase 146. Senator Chavek was captured and the body of General Tomalar recovered. The fleet sustained minimal damage for an engagement of this type.
Last evening, it was discovered that Senator Chavek had managed to kill himself due to a missed suicide pill. It has been noted that Admiral Korzan's team missed this pill, however; Warrant Officers Kidd and Winn were off on a 'romantic' encounter, giving Senator Chavek time to swallow this pill. Prior to this discovery, we operated on the assumption that a spy had delivered the pill to the late senator. This did lead to the discovery and capture of a Tal'Shiar spy on the base.
Warrant Officers Kidd and Winn have been disciplined by the Strategic Operations Officer as there was no Chief of Security at the time.
End Log.
Personal Log,
The Promotion is nice, and the family back home might be happy about it when I tell them, but I'm going to end up missing the Centennial Festival because I have to do Genrin's job now too. DAMNIT!
End Personal Log.

Ca- Er...Admiral's Log Stardate: 89939.8
I've been promoted to Admiral, a One-Star. It comes as a bit of a surprise but...that's how it goes. I mean, I had the authority before, but not the rank. Not sure what I feel. Admiral Martin is building his staff with good people from the looks of it, and I can't help but feel proud of Commander Itachi Rin (If her promotion has come through, I haven't found the memo yet.)
I gave Captain Anson command of the USS Phoenix, which pulls an Excelsior out of drydock because it had no CO and back into action; and allows the yard to perform an overhaul of the Lafayette.
Admiral Martin also asked me my opinion on if Captain Tiana RasTalon should be pulled off the line due to what is going on with her parents. I gave him my opinion: Her head may not be 100% clear, but she should be able to perform her duty adequately in the Dyson Sphere; if her parents were going to the Solenae Dyson Sphere, THEN I'd say she'd need to be pulled off the line. She's stubborn though, a bit overconfident maybe. I doubt she'll drop everything at a critical moment just to run off after her parents.
Side project is going well enough, work on a Transwarp Transporter. If it works out, we'll have instant transport to the Solenae Dyson Sphere for individuals. That's the theory anyway. Simulations look good though.
On another note, Admiral Martin plans on putting us through a Map Table Exercise. No actual ships present, just subspace uplink. The Scenario is an interesting one, the Voth have taken the Solenae Dyson Sphere and are invading the Beta Quadrant. He's placing me in charge of the OPFOR, and Captain Sanders in charge of the defending forces. Should be an interesting challenge.
Received a report from the Providence this morning as well. The Illarian Marines of the 4th Division took a Voth outpost about 2 kilometers from the primary battlezone and have the Voth bogged down in a nasty ground war to take it back. Damage to the ship has been minimal, but she'll need new fighters soon, the fight's taken a toll on them.
-End Log.
Personal Log...
Still can't believe I was promoted to Admiral. Admiral Kent Spoon must be a prophet in his spare time, considering he predicted it. Really, this is going to take getting used to. Kval's going to be happy at least, I'll be on the Station a little more often.
Looking back at it though, if I'd gotten the CO position for the fleet permanently, I'd probably have put Admiral Martin in my position. I know there are some people that think he might have been the worst choice for it, but when I look at it...he might be the best choice we had in "the house."
I think Starfleet is trying the idea of seeing how we do when they put someone we're familiar with in charge. Can't say I don't like the idea, considering people in the fleet already know how we operate, nothing really gets broken and the transition is a bit...smoother.
Though I think John Sanders might need a thump in the head to remind him that the new Admirals didn't come up through desk jobs. Though, I'm considering not warning him that Admiral Martin plans to promote him too.
*There's amusement on her face on the last part.*
-End log.

Admiral's Log, Stardate: 89945.3.
I managed to hash out the problems that Subcommander Vrainak had with the transwarp transporter so that project is back on track with his approval. Helps when people actually talk to each other and are clear on what they're doing instead of being stubborn. Now, I'm not saying anyone did anything wrong, I just think there was a breakdown in communications between two people. However, I didn't appreciate the threat of the transporter going to Klingon hands alone. I'm going to hope that was just nerves on someone's end.
On another note, I continue to find myself wondering why the one known as T'Pal Malfaire is kept around aside from the fact she's married to the Romulan Republic Liason. The woman exhibits all the traits that Admiral Martin has stated he doesn't want to see in us. She's bloodthirsty, willing to throw out the rules entirely to achieve her ends, minimal sense of morality except where her wife is involved. Put simply, I think she's a loose cannon. The Omega Directive is not free reign to kill needlessly, and I worry she'll hit that point.

Admrial's Log, Stardate: 89997.2
The report just handed to me has placed me in the foulest of moods. Doctor Karis formerly of the Avalon and now formerly of the Romulan Republic has revealed herself to be a Tal'Shiar Spy. The only good news I can bring from this is that she surrendered peacefully.
I'm going to have Admiral Cai'lyn run every Godsdamn background check he can think of on the prisoner spy to see what we missed, and bring me the report. I'll probably even call up Starfleet Intelligence HQ myself and ask them to run one as well for good measure.
This...was unacceptable. What was her mission? Did she accomplish it? I want answers...and minutes from now is not acceptable in this case. If this gave the Tal'Shiar the opportunity to get their hands on Omega Particles and they got them, we're all in a lot of trouble.
I do not envy Commander S'Taev, and I doubt he's at fault. We all had the wool pulled over our eyes.
End log.
Personal Log...
If there was ever a time I wanted to beat someone to death with a chair, this is it. I don't like the Tal'Shiar, and I never will. If I had the opportunity, I'd burn their entire organization to the ground without a second thought. The fact that one of them got in good with us makes my blood boil.
End Log.

Admiral's Log, Stardate: 90032.8
-The following log has been deemed classified under the Omega Directive-
Omega Bombs and Tal Shiar plots. Apparently, the Tal Shiar are dumber than anyone thought, that or they're beyond desperate for attention. They apparently are in league with the Breen, a Klingon Faction, the True Way Cardassians, and someone called The Marshall to sabotage a conference on Deep Space 9. I'm looking at theories that could stop an Omega cascade now, but there's not enough data to be sure which has the best chance of success if it all goes to hell.
There is, however, an option that would work well in removing Omega, but the destructive potential is damning, and would be a nice ace in the hole. Red Matter. The resulting black hole from the Vulcan black hole generator would, in theory, halt an Omega cascade, but the collateral damage makes it an absolutely last resort, if at all.
Never mind that if the bomb goes off and if it is an Omega bomb, Omega wouldn't be classified for much longer after that.
This whole scenario scares the hell out of me.
End log.
Personal Log,
I wonder what happened to me. I was an engineer, now I'm an Admiral at war. At least Kval'nu's still here, or I'd go mad.

Admiral's Log, Stardate: 90054.7
Vilaina is apparently on the holodeck of her ship while recording the log...punching the hell out of a large punching bag, wearing a workout outfit, which still includes her knife.
With notice received that Merzan is targeting Jarkonis, the homeworld of one of the Captains in the 146th, I find myself...
She slams her fist into the bag causing it to move a fair amount. She holds her hand out and steadies the bag, then resumes beating the hell out of it.
Worried would be the word. It's a thought of mine that Captain RasTalon be given leave of absence while we handle the issue as while her parents may be alright (as I have heard nothing to the contrary), her entire homeworld is on the line. If for some reason we must retreat from a battle over her homeworld, I worry that she will not bring herself to follow that order. Exodus is something she cares a great deal for, but a homeworld is more than a ship, isn't it?
She hammers the bag again, causing it to swing, and when it comes back she gives it a good round-house kick. She pauses her pounding of the bag while it swings for a bit.
Beside that statement, it seems apparent that Merzan and the rest of The Marshal's posse seem inclined to throw more fuel onto the dying embers of the Klingon-Federation war. I do not understand why, as there are too many mutual threats present for this to make ANY tactical sense at all.
She then resumed beating the bag with her fists.
I have to wonder if darker forces have their hands in the pockets of The Marshal and his friends...if The Marshal is even a known species at all. Headaches all around to think about.
I'm having the XO on the Providence run unscheduled battle drills as a result, and going to suggest to Admiral Martin that until the current crises are over, other ships in the fleet run them as well. We cannot be too prepared.
She slams the bag one more good time.
End Log.

Admiral's Log, Stardate: 90109.5
There's no question of it, we got our asses handed to us in the Jarkonis system. Merzan had more than we expected and played us well. A ship either allied with him or belonging to his house snagged Exodus in a subspace portal of some kind and put guns on her. In reply I ordered weapons free to all ships.
I feel like I got played. From the start of the mission, I felt something was wrong; Merzan was too confident. I began to suspect that there were forces behind the star watching where we were hiding and preparing to come from. Merzan confirmed my suspicions. Had I been thinking about it...I would have suggested other tactics.
We lost the battle, but we haven't lost Jarkonis YET.
On the other hand of it all, is the fact that Merzan's shipyards are farther away from Jarkonis than 146 is. We can get back there at full strength and turn the tide. If we could get at Merzan's shipyards, we could cripple him and ruin his odds completely. We're not in checkmate yet.
This log will not be transmitted to command until Jarkonis issue has been resolved.

Vilaina is on the holodeck, throwing knives at a generic target dummy.
I had the displeasure of being informed that Commander Itachi Rin has been arrested by Federation investigators and been treated similar to how a Tal Shiar would treat their prisoners. The charges? Weapons trafficking, aiding in a terrorist action, and aiding the enemies of the Federation. Not one charge fits with the Commander's service record, in fact, the Commander in question seems to have more interest in keeping with Starfleet regulations than most people I've seen.
Three knives stick into her target, in rapid succession, with good accuracy for her range.
I sense a Godsdamn witch hunter, out to bolster his own career.
Four more join the first three, one after the other.
I intend to keep an eye on the investigation, and order one started to find the real truth of the matter.
Two more knives stick into the target's face, thrown at the same time.
I won't see an innocent officer pay for something she didn't do.

It's done, the Fleet moves out tomorrow. Merzan and his followers wish to have their resolve tested, it will be tested in fire. With his shipyards destroyed he will be hard pressed to combat the 146th at full strength. Jarkonis will be relieved of the Klingon Blockade, and we can go on with our lives.
Commander Itachi Rin was released from custody as well, a good sign in my opinion. We knew she wasn't guilty from the beginning but something seems wrong about the circumstances under which she was arrested.
After the incident at Jarkonis is over, I'm likely to send the Fox and the Arc Royal to take a look into the activities in the Rolor Nebula...where I have a hunch the mess that landed Commander Itachi Rin in custody started.

Command has begun debating the final decision on who will be given command of the 146th Fleet. They say they will have made their decision by next week.
The battle for Jarkonis went well, not as well as I would have liked, but far better than I had feared. The fleet is banged up, but still operational. However, Pirates may attempt to take advantage of the fact we need repairs.
I will be assigning various vessels to local pirate suppression and showing the flag patrols for a time. At minimum, groups of two.
Then there is the matter of the Pact, which I'm sure won't be sitting back and relaxing while we're here.
I've also spoken with Admiral Thorton at Starbase 765, and convinced him to make a trade. He needs an escort and I wanted a dreadnought. Besides, his repair facilities are more extensive than ours, if Captain Anson doesn't object, this could speed things along.

Repair work has been sped up, thanks to the A.I. known as Tristar responding to my request for assistance. Given potential threats that could soon arise from the aftermath of the second battle for Jarkonis, I felt it prudent to ask for assistance with repairs to the 146.
Part of me feels that what Merzan started at Jarkonis is only just beginning, and when the Pact is finished someone else will show their face. They always do, somewhere down the line.
On another note, Captain Anson got his new ship. I can only imagine the look on his face when Admiral Thorton handed him the PADD that gave him command of the Dreadnought after I told him to take the Lafayette to tow the Ark Royal to Starbase 765.
Sadly, I think we're going to need that firepower.

Personal Log,
I wish command would hurry up with their decision. It's really bothering me that such things take so damn long. And how long is it til that annual conference on Risa when they throw that huge party? GODS that'll be a nice trip.

Karis has requested asylum, which I have granted temporarily until JAG can look at the case. Given the issues that one particular exchange officer has brought to Victory...one of the ships under this command, there's enough egg on the Republic's face that I can hold that guy over their heads.
A discussion with Commander S'Taev implied that someone in the Republic might threaten to create a rift between our peoples. I sincerely doubt that a rift will be created between the Federation and the Romulan Republic if I don't turn Karis over to them; even without the embarrassment Commander Custos is.
What does bother me is that this whole issue just sprung up out of the blue. Matter of fact, it seems very off that they suddenly want Karis for breaking custody. I think someone is playing games, and I don't like being played with.
