"En route to Mirra, the Midway was attacked by an Orion scout vessel captained by Maela, the same woman we encountered at System M-1673. While the scout was destroyed, Maela and two of her crew beamed over. Those two crew members were neutralized, however she was beamed to a passing Klingon battle cruiser.
"While I can't trust what she said for obvious reasons, Maela claimed she was on the outs with the leadership of the Orion Colonies; perhaps this is true or perhaps this is a means for the Orions to claim plausible deniability in regards to an alliance with the Klingon Empire. Our battle damage is under repair and we'll be resuming course for Mirra shortly..."

"Upon our arrival at Mirra, we discovered a planet ravaged by war and environmental catastrophe. We were given coordinates to beam down to a sealed off dome containing a mere fraction of the planet's population. The person who hosted us was quick to explain what her people wanted of the Federation: relocation of the dome's five hundred inhabitants to one of the two other habitable planets in the system.
"Before I could fully state the difficulties in her request, the dome was attacked by the outside population. The leader of this group, who blamed the small population of elites for the state of the planet and believed Mirra could be restored, was amenable to our offering Federation assistance if both sides were to come to some sort of accord. The landing party returned to Midway without further incident and I've sent a request to Starfleet Command for a mediator to be appointed to assist the inhabitants of Mirra in finding peace..."

"When we arrived at New Oregon, the colony's mayor contacted the Midway and invited a landing party to beam down even with concentrations of delta radiation emitted by the system's sun approaching lethal levels. When we transported to the surface, we found not a modern deep space colony but a settlement right out of the Old West region of North America. While the mayor was friendly and welcoming of us, his sheriff, Bill, greeted us with hostility, warning that we might attract attention from the 'Ridge Gang.'
"Inside the settlement's saloon, we discovered the explanation for what we were seeing: an advanced holographic projection device that when accidentally deactivated caused the bulk of the settlement and the inhabitants to vanish. All but one; Bill the sheriff. He explained that ten years ago after the colony was established, the Klingons attacked and killed almost everyone. The handful of survivors rode out the attack in a cave in which they discovered alien technology that allowed them to create this illusion. Over time, the remaining physical colonists died off due to the extreme conditions, leaving Bill the last out of a colony of two hundred. He had become so lost in the illusion that he'd rather force us to leave instead of returning to reality.
"Fortunately, we were able to convince him to return to the Midway with us along with the holographic technology. I've advised Starfleet Command of our findings and while the attack happened a decade ago, the deaths of nearly 200 Federation citizens will have ramifications in the ongoing negotiations with the Klingon Empire..."

"Admiral Komack of Starfleet ordered the Midway to search for the frigate Seeker, reported missing near the Disputed Zone. According to the admiral, this came as the Klingon negotiators issued a demand for a complete Federation withdrawal from the zone; an emergency session of the Federation Council has been called at Babel. Our findings would certainly influence their decisions.
"We soon located the Seeker, heavily damaged and with sixty-six of her complement of 150 dead. First Officer T'Lor and Lieutenant Nagano led a boarding party over, finding the ship under the command of the Seeker's chief engineer, Lieutenant Malone. According to Malone, whatever wrecked the ship attacked so swiftly and so ferociously that he was unaware of what hit them; anyone on the bridge was either dead like her first officer or comatose like her captain.
"With the back-up recordings in the Seeker's auxiliary control center useless, T'Lor followed Malone up to the wrecked bridge. There she located a record from the bridge's visual log. It revealed the ship that attacked the Seeker that while clearly Klingon in design is far larger and far more powerful than any vessel we've encountered before..."

"While towing the frigate Seeker to Starbase 8, the Midway has been ordered to divert to System M-1673, home of the Arin'Sen race. Based on communications intercepts, Starfleet Command believes the Klingon Empire intends to seize the system for its dilithium deposits if war breaks out. Other Federation vessels are en route to assist us, but if the Klingon attack force consists of that dreadnought that crippled the Seeker, the struggle ahead will be bloody..."

"The Midway intercepted a distress signal from the Starfleet cruiser Invidia, under the command of Captain Edith Ornstein, before we could reach System M-1673. The Invidia had intercepted and disabled a Klingon D5-class escort ship before coming under attack by the battle cruiser commanded by Captain Korroth. We drove off Korroth's ship and he chose to scuttle the escort. However, Captain Ornstein's crew had boarded the D5 and retrieved a Klingon data card that she needed the Midway's computers to decrypt. Science Officer T'Lor discovered the card contained orders to attack Starbase 8; the move against the Arin'Sen apparently a faint to leave the base vulnerable.
"We've set course for Starbase 8 at maximum warp to reinforce against an attack; while the station's been fully repaired from the disaster that crippled it, the only vessel there presently is the old NX-class Avalon. The Invidia is towing the Seeker there. Hopefully both ships will reach the base before the Klingons, but even then our combined fire power might not be enough against the full might of a Klingon war fleet..."

"The war with the Klingon Empire, mere days after it began, is over. The Midway reached Starbase 8, under the control of the forces of General Karvok. After tricking his ships into pursuing false sensor readings, we boarded the station to retake it and utilize its weapons against a Klingon counterattack. However, before we could engage Captain Korroth's troops, our weapons became too hot to handle. An entity calling himself Ayelborne claiming to be from Organia appeared and stated his people had stopped the forces of the Federation and Klingon Empire through some power we have yet to comprehend. After vanishing, Starfleet Command signaled all forces in the combat zone to stand down with a very literal cease fire in place.
"The Midway, Invidia, Seeker, and Avalon remain at Starbase 8 awaiting further word over the cessation of hostilities. I'd say we were lucky but somehow it doesn't look like luck was involved at all..."

"We reached the stricken Denebian vessel Torel commanded by a Captain Dimil, who seemed very eager for Chief Engineer Wood to beam over and assist them with their engine troubles. The repairs were quick and Mr. Wood was returned to us...or so we thought. After the Torel warped away without so much as a thank you, Chief Medical Officer zh'Latha determined that Wood was an android impostor. The Midway intercepted the Torel just as it was confronted by a Romulan warship. Both we and the Romulans disabled the Torel and we retrieved the real Commander Wood; the Romulans retrieved a crate that presumably contained an officer missing from their ship before they departed.
"A boarding party from the Midway seized control of the Torel and we're now en route to rendezvous with the cruiser Invidia to turn it and her crew over where the latter will be jailed and prosecuted for their crimes. Science Officer T'Lor is presently studying the fake Wood to see if it might prove useful in any nature of engineering emergencies..."

"The Midway detected what appeared to be impossible: an asteroid being propelled at warp velocities on course for Romulan territory. Upon closer investigation, we discovered the asteroid had a structure built upon its surface and conduits lining its surface similar to warp nacelles. Fearing that the asteroid could be interpreted as some kind of Federation-built weapon, myself, Commander T'Lor, and Chief Engineer Wood transported over.
"We found an advanced control center with technology beyond anything we had seen before. Technology that appears to have been damaged by an ion storm. After Mr. Wood repaired a damage command and control terminal, a recorded holographic message explained the asteroid's purpose. Its builders were from a now extinct civilization, who hoped that the microscopic organisms contained in the asteroid's core could bring life to a world where none exists.
"The asteroid closed on the Neutral Zone and three Romulan warships moved to intercept. Before they could attack, the asteroid started to engage an apparent faster-than-warp propulsion; our landing party beamed back to the Midway before the massive vessel disappeared. After exchanging 'pleasantries' with my Romulan counterpart, a Commander Valak, we've resumed our patrol route with no hostile actions taken by either side..."

"Between the twin quasars of Galileo M-26, the Midway discovered a planetoid composed of Quasar Olivium; a substance until now thought to be theoretical, capable of existing in multiple realities. We also discovered a Klingon D5-class escort trapped within the accretion disk but by then we too were trapped. The Klingon captain had taken a shuttle to the planetoid and hadn't been heard from since; this planetoid was causing a catastrophic destabilization of the quasars that would have destroyed both our vessels if we did not escape in time. Working with the Klingon ship's first officer, Commander B'Etris, both the Midway and her Kris'tak initiated a power transfer and with both our engines were able to escape before the quasars destabilized, taking the planetoid with them.
"After a begrudging statement of thanks, the Kris'tak departed the area and the Midway resumed its course. What happened to the Klingon captain, we may never know..."

"We located the Torvaldson along with the powerless hulks of many other vessels in orbit of a spherical object. When we contacted the stricken science vessel, its surviving crew warned of a phenomenon that had rendered the old ship powerless and was causing the crew to die. The Midway executed a risky maneuver to enter transporter range of the Torvaldson and beamed over the survivors. Our ship too was being drained of power, but we were able to execute a slingshot maneuver around the sphere to escape whatever field was draining our energy. And that's when things became more complicated.
"Sensors indicated the sphere was constructed around a black hole. The survivors we had beamed aboard were dying from a silicon based virus, which according to the Torvaldson's records was contracted when they investigated the other derelict vessels. Thanks to the discovery of a silicon based life form called the Horta in the Janus system, our science and medical departments were able to discover a cure before the last survivors perished.
"Almost as soon as they did, an entity appeared on the bridge, claiming to be the controller of the facility. According to him, this was a test of our civilization's advancement; our engines, a century ahead of those aboard the Torvaldson, overcame the power drain and our medical knowledge the virus. Having passed this test, the controller said our civilization had advanced to the point we were deemed worthy of further exploration of the galaxy without supervision on their part. He estimated that our two societies might be ready for formal relations in a few centuries.
"With the sphere to be dismantled by the aliens, I've informed Starfleet to make preparations to recover the Torvaldson and to inform the Klingons and the other civilizations trapped by this test of the fate of their lost vessels. As for when first contact with these...supervisors can happen, I can only hope whatever future Starfleet captain given that honor finds our experiences useful..."
