"Captain's Log: Stardate 89843.8
"The Federation, Klingon Empire, and Romulan Republic have agreed to send a joint task force through the Jouret gateway to deal with the mutual threat the Enterprise and Avalon's sensors picked up beyond it. The Avalon will be the flagship for the Federation's contribution and the fleet is scheduled to leave in just under eight days while an advanced team from the Republic will cross the gate in three. The dangers are immense and the unknowns about what lays beyond the gate are just as daunting. This could be the biggest trial the Avalon has ever faced, though I'm confident we're up to the challenge..."
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental
"Some days I wonder if I'm in over my head. As head of the Federation contribution to the expedition through the Jouret gate, I've been fielding inquiries left and right all day, the most serious of which stemming from the Republic Fleet officer sent to Starbase 146 whom after a verbal altercation with Captain Tiana Rastalon earlier today has barred the Exodus from accompanying the task force. While I agree that the captain isn't the most diplomatic officer in this sentient's Starfleet, the Exodus AI has proven itself capable of hacking the computer system of Obelisk 1. If we encounter similar computer technology on the other side of the gate, then the AI becomes all the more critical to our success. If the Republic won't let the Exodus through the front door at Jouret IV, then I hope my secret agreement with Captain Rastalon will find a way to bring her ship through the back door.
"The Omega Directive demands of all starship captains that it is the primary concern in light of the presence of the so-called Omega Molecule, a fact Tiana was all too eager to point out and one I reiterated to the Republic officer visiting Starbase 146. If it comes down to it, the Directive demands that all other concerns be ignored to accomplish our objective, up to and including perhaps breaking the alliance with the Romulan Republic or breaking the cease fire with the Klingon Empire. But that eventuality falls under 'up to and including;' a last resort, not a first one. Let's hope my hand isn't forced.
"And while I'm not overly fond of the contingent currently slated to join the task force from the Republic, I can only wonder who the Klingons are sending...and what ulterior agendas they may bring to the table..."

"Word has reached me that Science Officer Alexis Maus, operating under secret orders to infiltrate Klingon space to uncover information about the current state of the Hydran Kingdom, is now safely on her way back to the Avalon after her quest proved fruitless. My personal thanks to Commander S'Taev tr'Dharvanek of the Republic warbird Ra'kholh for ensuring her safety this past week. But even if she had succeeded in her mission, the Hydran affair will have to wait. The Avalon is ready to test the rift core tomorrow evening and in less than a week's time, we're to pass through the Jouret gate. Considering where we're going and what we'll be facing, I need one of my best senior officers at my side to deal with what is to come..."

"Our testing of the subspace rift warp core nearly ended in tragedy when utilizing the asynchronous warp field violently flung the Avalon into a pocket of subspace. A reversal of the accident enabled us to get clear, though the ship sustained moderate damage and will be dry docked for the next few days. I've ordered the asynchronous elements of the impulse engines to be removed; considering where we're going and how far away from Federation space we'll be next week, I'd prefer to have the most advanced quantum slipstream drive in the galaxy in the event we are unable to return through the Jouret gate. My compliments to the entire engineering department, along with Science Officer Alexis Maus and Flight Controller Callista Allura.
"Engineering is also working on installing several Klingon Honor Guard components to the impulse drive that Chief Engineer Fearos...obtained from his counterpart from the IKS Reclaw. Also, Mr. Fearos is hereby barred from gambling with engineers of the Klingon Defense Force. I'm sure I and my counterparts in the KDF don't want any more severed heads to be sent to Fearos..."

"The Romulan Republic's vanguard force has entered the Jouret Iconian gate. On the other side they discovered that the gate's sole terminus is within a Dyson Sphere, a little more than half the size of the recently vanished Jenolen Sphere. The architecture appears very similar to the Solanae base and Obelisk carrier, with a massive arch-like structure being re-purposed as an allied command center for the entire task force. The presence of an atmosphere along the interior surface of the sphere will make piloting starships difficult. Also, a Klingon probe within the sphere has gone missing. While the Republic isn't panicking just yet, considering the great unknown that faces us in the sphere, we can't leave anything to chance..."

"The Avalon is now on course for the Jouret system where we'll rendezvous with a joint Federation, Klingon, and Romulan Republic task force before proceeding through the Iconian gateway to the Solanae Dyson Sphere. A lot is riding on our efforts, up to and including preserving our very way of life. This ship and the ships she has led before has been up to every challenge laid out before us up to this point. I'm confident we'll meet this new challenge head-on and emerge victorious..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 89865.5
"The fleet has crossed through the Jouret gate and no sooner did we arrive in the Solanae Dyson Sphere that we discovered we're not alone. The Voth, a species believed to be evolved from prehistoric Earth dinosaurs, have a presence in the sphere and are in the process of collecting the Omega Molecule for their own use. Their flagship under the command of Grand Marshal Siyi de-cloaked near the allied command center, demanding that we withdraw, though they were unwilling to fire the first shot. After a tense stand-off, this fortress ship departed.
"I've consulted with Starfleet Command about this encounter and we have reached the same conclusion: we must continue to follow the Omega Directive. We cannot allow the Voth to attempt to seize Omega, for in spite of all their arrogant bluster, they could easily cause the disaster the task force was sent here to prevent. Efforts are now underway to secure our beachhead from Voth incursion, but this new enemy may be even more dangerous than those who built the sphere in the first place..."

"...just when I thought this couldn't be any more complicated than it already was, now we may have just declared war against a species even older and arguably more powerful than the Iconians. But...we cannot allow the Voth any quarter; we cannot even take the slightest chance that their attempts to seize Omega will destroy space travel in the galaxy as we know it. For I know deep down that this is the Iconians' plan. To set off enough Omega Molecules to prevent warp travel, then use their gateways to conquer and destroy all civilizations in the galaxy unhindered.
"If only I can make the Voth see this. But I suppose what is true for individuals is the same for species: the older you are, the more stubborn you become..."

The Avalon and the ships attached to her are only now just being rotated off the front and we're on course for a spire designated for the 146th's use..."

"The Avalon has completed an inspection of the Dyson Sphere spire set aside for the 146th Fleet's use. Pending a structural check by our engineering department, I feel it's...*yawns*...safe to open it up for use as a repair base and shore leave facility by our personnel. However...*yawns*...we may want to establish a permanent security presence to dissuade trespassers...
"Also, while the Avalon continues to conduct repairs...*yawns*...I'm authorizing the Excalibur to make return trips through the gate back to the Alpha Quadrant for resupply missions and to transfer our wounded. *yawns for a good three seconds* We've held up well against the Voth so far, but this is only the beginning...

"Centurion Vrainak Noxius, head of research within the Dyson Sphere, has developed a new proton rifle that promises to give us an edge against the Voth in the battle zone. Once the weapon is certified as operational for field work, I'm having the replicator patterns of it sent to all ships via courier. If my plan to send the Voth packing has any chance of success, we need every advantage we can get.
"Oh, and I should probably sent out a task force-wide standing order regarding...recreational EVAs on ship's hulls while in the Sphere..."

"Centurion Vrainak Noxius of the Dyson Sphere research team has been tasked with developing and installing a proton weapon similar in principle to the rifle he invented aboard the Avalon to replace the failing dual phaser bank that has not been operating at peak efficiency since our arrival here. Furthermore, I've ordered all task force ships to set aside one quarter of their projectile weapon magazines for gravimetric torpedoes. They represent the quickest way to eliminate moderate clusters of Omega particles and one thing we don't have on our side out here is time..."

"The mission was a success; the Voth captured Obelisk 1 and they are in the process of towing her back to the Fortress ship. The Avalon sustained minor damage in the attack and we believe that for now the deception is holding.
"However, there was a far more disturbing revelation this evening. Counselor Chrysler revealed she had been suffering from acute insomnia since the Avalon entered the Sphere. On a hunch I had Security Chief Va'rek check the internal sensor logs. Not only was she taken from and returned to the ship multiple times, but so were several other members of the crew. This clearly indicates the Solanae have taken an interest in the Avalon just as they did with the Enterprise-D over thirty years ago. Efforts are underway to find a means of preventing the Solanae from abducting members of my crew and I've warned Dyson Joint Command to order all ships to conduct similar inquiries..."
