"Captain's Log: Stardate 88598.1 "It would appear that I've received an early birthday present. Late last night, I was contacted aboard the Hydra by Admiral Hague where he informed me that I had been awarded command of the U.S.S. Avalon, flagship of the Beta Ursae Sector Block. While I'll miss the Hydra and her crew, an Odyssey-class starship is something special. Hopefully the transition in command will go smoothly; by most accounts, the Avalon has a fine crew but there are a few rough patches here and there, which I'll endeavor to correct. Barring any delays, my runabout should reach the Avalon's home port of Starbase 146 within the next day. Beta Ursae's a lot different than the front lines of the Neutral Zone, but Starfleet's confident that I'm up to the challenge. "And I do love a challenge..."
"Personal Log: Supplemental "I've been spending most of today reading over the Avalon's captain's log during my trip to Starbase 146. It seems at the very least, my predecessor and I have verbosity in common. Of course, I have my mother's genes to thank for that; being the son of a former Federation consul would lend one's self to rambling. The Avalon's past five months of service have been eventful indeed, starting from the liberation of Deep Space 9 from the 2800 to more recent events. Can't lie; I'm now feeling just a tad intimidated by the prospects of taking command of the Avalon. How many other ships in Starfleet can claim they've tangled with the Dominion, Romulans, Borg, the True Way, and even Q of all people? All right, maybe it's both intimidating and exciting at the same time. Fighting Klingons and the Tholians lately in the Neutral Zone was getting...repetetive, like I was grinding through the same thing over and over again on a daily basis.
"And yet, as I read through these logs, I can't help but wonder where Cap...Commander Hunter went wrong, what led to his downfall. He alluded to a relationship between him and Commander RasTalon of the supply vessel Exodus, one that had apparently soured and set in motion the chain of events that resulted in the civil war on Jarkonis. I can't help but feel sympathy for Hunter in that regard; even though I've never been to Jarkonis, I've heard stories about that planet and Governor Korax. They say he has such a silver tongue that he can talk a depressed man out of suicide then turn around and convince a perfectly happy man into taking his own life. Seems the latter happened to Hunter, at least in terms of his career. "Can't afford to dwell on that. My new crew is counting on me to motivate them to move on from their previous CO and focus them on the missions ahead of us. My crew; when I got command of the Hydra, she had no senior officers left over from the previous captain. I had to build my team from the ground up. On Avalon, I'm inheriting someone else's team, a team who's loyalty is with their previous leader and I'll have to do my utmost to earn their trust and respect. Why would anyone want to follow their captain into Hell if he doesn't engender the loyalty to do so? "In other news, I finally got a response from my parents on Izar over the new of my transfer. Dad and Mom both seemed proud, but then Dad mentioned Grant was named league MVP...again. I swear about the only way Nat and I can ever hope to top our baby brother is if she's elected Federation president and I'm named CINC of Starfleet. Imagine what the Sanders' kids could do with the top two positions in the United Federation of Planets... "On second thought, I probably shouldn't think like that. I haven't been sworn in as captain of the Avalon yet and I'm already letting it go to my head. Maybe that was Hunter's problem. If that's the case, I better do my damndest to not repeat his mistakes..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88601.7 "Our arrival at Starbase 146 and the Avalon will be delayed by 24 hours in order to swing by and pick up the Hydra's chief of security, Cameron Wander, who will be serving in that capacity aboard my new command. Cam isn't just one of the more trusted members of my team on the Hydra, he's a friend, and I'll need him to help overcome the settling-in adjustments that'll be inevitable with this kind of change in command. Although I will in one day's time become Avalon's captain, to the people who served there under Commander Hunter, I'll just be an FNG. "Should have guessed Cam of all people would be willing to cancel extended shore leave for this. It's not every day you get the chance to serve on an Odyssey-class starship with a close friend as your CO..."
"Personal Log: Supplemental "Damn Cam! Even though I was willing to go out of my way and pick him up so we can show up on the Avalon together, he just had to go straight there and beat me to the punch. I really, really hope he didn't make a bad first impression with his new team."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88604.7 "I have officially assumed command of the USS Avalon. Following the transfer of command ceremony, I spoke at length with XO Edwards. He seems to be an excellent officer and an equally excellent advocate for the members of his team. We may have had our rough patches during that meet and greet, but I think we'll get along fine. During said meet-and-greet, I instituted three standing orders. One, the Avalon will as of tomorrow run on a four shift daily rotation, both to provide flexibility to the crew's schedules and improve overall combat readiness. Second, we'll be petitioning the 146th to put Avalon at the top of the list for weapons requisitions from the soon-to-be upgraded industrial fabricator; Avalon is the flagship of this fleet and she deserves nothing but the best. Finally, the crew evaluations scheduled for next month will begin some time next week. I need to know where my team stands, to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Once that's accomplished, we'll move from there. "I also played host to Gul Gojak, Cardassian liaison to this fleet. I wish we had more time to talk, but the needs of this transition had to trump any formal diplomatic dialogue for the time being."
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental "I'm pretty sure the crew already thinks I'm a dick. Then again, unless I had myself surgically altered to look like Jason Hunter, there was bound to be some resentment over my assuming command. If they feel that way now, fine. I look forward to proving them wrong. After all, as my mother was fond of saying, the best way to exceed expectations is to have those expectations pretty low to begin with. "That said, Cam and I need to have a few words about him and Liaison Officer T'Kor..."
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental "Clarie's here on the starbase. Of all the people I could have run into, why did it have to the only woman I...? "Strike that."
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental "Cam, myself, Genny, and Kyran on the same starbase. We should charge for the entertainment everyone's about to enjoy."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88617.9 "The Avalon has been assigned a routine patrol of the area around Starbase 146. I look forward to putting this ship and team through their paces."
"Personal Log: Supplemental "No more training camp, no more preseason. It's time to get out there and win.
"Also, something's up with Cam and I don't think it's because I'm courting my predecessor's sister, my former fiance. All right, maybe it has everything to do with it, but he's too much like me and unable to admit his feelings openly without a phaser pointed at the back of his head. And very funny, Garth; I swear I am this close to deleting your spider form..."

"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"Our routine patrol was mired by a...disciplinary issue and a visit from Q. Other than that, it was uneventful."
*he smirks as he ends his log*
"Personal Log: Stardate 88624.5
"Not how I envisioned my 42nd birthday to unfold. I had planned on spending...quality time with Clarie, but according to my contacts in the Corps, she's 'indisposed.' Well, don't need to have been in combat zone for God knows how long to know what that means. Reading between the lines, it means she's on a mission, where she is and when she'll return is above my clearance level. All I can hope is that the true answer to my inquiries is 'soon.' She just reentered my life, we've just started over; I just don't want to have to...
*a pause followed by a long tired sigh*
"In other news, I've had an informative conversation with Commander RasTalon of the Exodus. Strike that, the conversation was informative to me, though she started tuning me out the second I tried to give her constructive criticism, namely trying to dissuade her of the notion that in order for her to have high self esteem that she needs to receive validation from a male authority figure like her father denied her. As I said to her, she and Commander Hunter are a lot alike, especially in their refusal to believe that either of them have done wrong. She feels the fault in the crisis on Jarkonis is solely that of Admiral Spoon's, while he according to the logs assesses the blame of his demotion on everyone but himself. I initially thought Hunter was solely in the wrong for his actions, but what his own sister told me makes me start to doubt that belief. As my mother was fond of saying, disasters seldom have a single cause and from what I've been able to piece together, there are several people at fault for the recent events on Jarkonis II, events that now threaten any prospect of ending with the war with the Klingon Empire.
"Eh, what can I do? I'm no longer in Jarkonis' jurisdiction and I doubt Admiral Spoon would send the pride of the 146th over to the Neutral Zone to poke our nose into problems that the Avalon has no business addressing. Guess I'm just venting. Suppose I'm entitled in my old age..."
"Personal Log: Supplemental
"Presided over my first wedding today as captain of the Avalon. Not my first as captain of anything, but something about it...it reminded me how Clarie and I were back in the day. The groom was a nervous human who kept tripping over his own words and the bride a liberated Borg coming to terms with her humanity at the same time she was taking on a husband 'til death do they part. All the while, I kept returning to the events of 20 years ago as I struggled to remember the lines I was supposed to deliver. All I could picture was a young senior year cadet and a marine officer trying to recover from the ordeal the Borg put her through...and how if not our careers had got in the way, we would have traded the same vows decades ago that Connor and Jaime did on the Avalon's observation deck today. I chastised Garth for crying at the wedding and maybe if I wasn't such a macho asshole, I might have shed the same tears over what might have been...
"Computer, shut this damn thing off."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88632.6
"The Avalon responded to a distress call from a vessel purporting itself to the starship Shogun near the Badlands. Upon our arrival, we discovered it besieged by multiple Borg vessels. While engaging the enemy, we beamed over the Shogun's survivors...including one partially assimilated member of its crew. Once the drone was subdued, the Avalon returned to Starbase 146. With the drone confined to Medlab 4 pending liberation, I've ordered full security protocols to be enacted. Avalon will remain outside of transporter range of the starbase until further notice, all leave privileges on said base are suspended and any emergency or operational transfers to and from 146 will be conducted via shuttlecraft until the quarantine protocols are lifted.
"My compliments to the senior officers of the Avalon for a job well done. Now our primary focus is to find out where this alleged U.S.S. Shogun came from and who this drone really is...."
"Personal Log: Supplemental
"Guess who's back? And guess who owes me my...our favorite bottle of scotch now?"
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88640.3
"The Avalon's standard patrol was cancelled in order to effect search and rescue operations for a prototype runabout lost near the Badlands. With the assistance of the Vamprosian vessel Tesseract, we tracked the runabout to a frozen world along the Cardassian border. An away team was sent down, rescuing both members of the runabout's crew and recovering the craft's wreckage. The survivors are being tended to in sickbay and we have returned to Starbase 146."
*Only after the log stops recording does he let his teeth chatter*
"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"A bomb was discovered in the captain's ready room aboard the Avalon today, planted by members of the same Ferasan conspiracy who kidnapped Commander Fearos and several other Caitians a few weeks ago. It was defused with no loss of life among the crew or damage to the ship. However, based on the warning of the Ferasan killed by Captain T'Kor on the Klingon starbase Kladh, there's a strong possibility that there are four more devices somewhere out there. The Avalon itself will remain on heightened alert while I move to a secure location in the interim."
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental
"There's a reason I don't usually engage in public displays of affection..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88659.54
"Our patrol was mostly uneventful save for the incident during Gamma Shift. Sensors picked up a gaseous anomaly similar to a nebula that moved of its own accord. It approached the Avalon and unleashed a discharge that disabled primary and auxiliary power. A portion of the entity detached from the main body and entered the main bridge, in short order abducting helmsman Mexis Xivix and myself, depositing us into black...void. Apparently following my disappearance, chief of security Cameron Wander and MACO CO 1st Lieutenant K'Laliti opened fire on the entity and killed it. Using Xivix as a...telepathic translator, we quickly learned that the cloud was actually a collective of entities, some receptive to my explanation that this was a tragic misunderstanding while one entity did not feel the same way. It also separated from the whole and attempted to attack the Avalon while the remainder neutralized it. After extending once more our apologies for the death of their comrade, the cloud departed. Thanks to the efforts of Commanders 25 and J'rai, main power was restored and the Avalon returned to Starbase 146. Commendations to them and to Ensign Xivix for having to endure the telepathic broadcasts of the entities.
"Starfleet's mandate even in times of strife like this is to explore the unknown. In spite of the unfortunate circumstances of today's first contact, it is gratifying to know other species in the cosmos share the same goal..."

"Clarie's Peregrine versus the Avalon's Stalker? Challenge accepted. Time to see if the 'Kiso' lives up to her namesake..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88678.7
"Shore leave continues for all Avalon personnel on Risa until 2200 Zulu tomorrow. This crew has been through a lot since the ship entered service and they deserve the time off.
"And note to the main shuttlebay to prepare the Stalker-class fighter dubbed the Kiso for transfer to the U.S.S. Kusanagi. My compliments to Admiral Hsalo for maintaining a very fine personal craft."

"With allegations of someone impersonating Operations Manager Itachi Rin, I have ordered a full security alert on the Avalon. A full sweep of the ship and her systems is underway to detect any signs of sabotage and I have assigned a security escort to Itachi to protect her from harm and to help ferret out this potential threat to the Avalon and her crew."
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental
"Three damn words, three very meaningful and emotional words and I can't even say them to Clarie in public when she's about to set off on a mission she may not return from. I wanted to, I wish I could, but for the life of me, I couldn't say 'I love you' in a crowded bar. She enjoys trying to break my sense of machismo and bravado, but...there may be some goals that not even Colonel Clarie Roberts, Starfleet Marine Corps can accomplish...and yet I want more than anything to see her continue to try..."

"A Borg attack on Starbase 146 was successfully repelled by the Avalon, the 146th, Unit 47, and allied forces. Casualties are being treated in sickbay as we speak. Overall, the crew did well weathering this latest crisis. I couldn't ask for a better team to lead..."
"Captain's Personal Log: Stardate 88711.4
"Recorded under security protocol Alpha One.
"Troubling allegations have been made against members of my team by a man I've known for over twenty years and to whom I owe my life. Cam believes that current and former members of the Avalon's crew have conspired to assist former chief of security James Francis Davis in fleeing from Federation authorities, including Ops Manager Itachi Rin, KDF Liaison Officer T'Kor, Assistant Chief Engineer J'rai, and none other than the Avalon's former commanding officer, Jason Hunter. Commander Wander stated to me on Starbase 146 that he suspects that this cabal is responsible for the pirate attack that allowed Davis to escape custody and relocate to Drozana Station in the Klingon Neutral Zone. Cam is presently taking his first command, the U.S.S. Reclamation, to Drozana to arrest Davis, but he leaves me with a mess that may be even more complicated than he thought.
"His justification for thinking that this group of officers could conspire together was due to the incident on or about Stardate 88517.0, where the Avalon took part in a joint operation to thwart a off-the-books black ops organization. When I countered that due to official reports this operation was authorized by Admiral Spoon, I had this unfortunate realization. That just as the admiral supposedly sanctioned that mission, to which Cam countered the orders were backdated and that this potential conspiracy could have plans for Bajor or Jarkonis, I started having this fear. A fear that this plot could extend all the way up to the highest levels of the 146th. The admiral could have easily court martialed Hunter for his actions against Admiral Arbriel-Kell in orbit of Jarkonis; instead he summarily demoted him and managed to save what's left of Hunter's career. Why? Out of deference to Hunter's contributions as captain of the Avalon or for something else? Something more sinister?
"I'm not sure who I can trust now, a state of affairs made even worse by Itachi's admission that she was on Drozana and gave Davis her Bajoran earring to pawn off. I've since restricted her travel priviledges; a full confinement to the Avalon might tip off the person impersonating her, but I have also ordered her to refuse all contact with Davis until this matter gets sorted out. And with T'Kor recalled to Qo'Nos and Hunter on patrol with the Tecumseh, that just leaves J'rai...and perhaps my own commanding officer. I'll know more when Cam returns from..."

"In commemoration of the six month anniversary of the liberation of Deep Space 9 from the forces of Kar'ukan, upon the completion of the Avalon's next patrol, we are to dock at said station and represent the 146th in ceremonies on and around the station and on Bajor. I am told that representatives from the Council of Ministers and the Vedek Assembly are to be granted full tours of the Avalon while she remains in port during her week-long stay at DS9. Full shore leave privileges will be granted for all Starfleet personnel and standing orders for said shore leave will be issued shortly. The Avalon was instrumental in the liberation of Deep Space 9 and we not only will represent the 146th Fleet but Starfleet as a whole. I expect nothing less than the best from my team during our lay over..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88717.1
"The Avalon investigated reports of a derelict ship in the Dorvan Sector, discovering the wreckage of the starship Hindenburg. As our away team discovered, the crew of the Hindenburg was exposed to an airborne pathogen during exploratory duty in the Betreka Nebula, causing the crew to go insane from paranoia. The ship left the nebula and wrecked itself in an asteroid field. Following a purging of the Hindenburg's atmosphere to remove all lingering contaminants, the ship was towed to Deep Space 9 by the Avalon and is at a secure anchorage pending full analysis and recovery of the remains of the ship's company. May the record show that the officers and crew of the U.S.S. Hindenburg gave their lives in pursuit of the highest goals of Starfleet. The Avalon, meanwhile, will remain at Deep Space 9 to participate in ceremonies commemorating the six month anniversary of the liberation of the station and the six month anniversary of this vessel's maiden voyage..."

"Operations Manager Itachi Rin was attacked and almost killed by a Ferasan on space station Deep Space 9, apparently in retaliation for the death of the Ferasan's son at the hands of Klingon Defense Force liaison officer T'Kor some weeks prior. All shore leave on Bajor and the station have been cancelled for the time being due to security concerns, though thankfully Commander Itachi is recovering from her wounds. However, the celebration of the Avalon's first six months of service will continue in Quark's as planned tomorrow evening. This team will not back down from threats; we will rise up and face them together and overcome them..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88736.2
"The Avalon was ordered to proceed to an abandoned starbase in the Hyralan Sector to evict Romulan refugees who had laid claim to the station. Upon our arrival, we discovered the situation was far more complicated. The refugees were children, sent away by their parents during attack on their colony world. The warbird that allegedly perpetrated the attack arrived and was warned off. The refugees were then granted asylum in the Federation and were transported to Starbase 146 aboard the Avalon. Starfleet Command has been advised of the situation and I've forwarded my report to Ambassador Stek. All and all, an excellent way for the Avalon to kick off her new beginning..."

"In addition to the arrival of not one but two warships of the Terran Empire today while the Avalon was laid up in dock, we have something perhaps far worse to contend with: a temporal beacon discovered on Deck 19. Said beacon conforms to the ones employed by the Department of Temporal Investigations and that can only mean that said department has designs on my ship and my crew. As much as I despise time travel and the complications that come with said incursions, if DTI wants to take on the Avalon, I for one emphatically say come on, bring it..."

"The Avalon and the USS Proxima responded to a distress call from a Cardassian Galor-class cruiser from the alternate universe under attack from warships of the Terran Empire. The attackers were repelled and the cruiser was escorted to Starbase 146 without further incident. Let the record show that the captain of the cruiser, Jil Ashi, demonstrated remarkable courage in the face of long odds..."
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental
"Hard to believe that the Avalon's trip to Qo'Nos would be the least awkward situation I'd have to contend with today. Following the retrieval of Captain T'Kor from the Klingon homeworld and confronting him in regards to his actions concerning James Davis, I started to question my resolve. He, Davis, and Commander RasTalon albeit independently expressed concerns over liberated Borg drones and their possible future utilization as sleeper agents, concerns I dismissed out of hand due to Davis' mental incompetence. But it wasn't until I stood toe-to-toe with T'Kor, saw how seriously that he believed in this potential threat did my own resolve start to falter, that I began to believe he was right and that perhaps the woman I share my bed and my heart with might be a danger to the Federation. I almost began to fear that Clarie might possibly be turned against the Federation by the Collective due to the Borg implants and nanites she still possesses.
"But then I began to think of all those periods in Earth history where a perceived threat by a minority population resulted in unspeakable crimes. Internment camps during the Second World War, racial profiling during the early 21st Century, persecution of anyone who refused blood screenings during the 2370s that it almost led to Admiral Leyton's coup against the Federation government. Hell, what if back in the mid 22nd Century we knew that Romulans and Vulcans were a kindred species? Would the Federation had even been formed if it was known that one of its founders was related to its greatest foe?
"And then I began to remember something. Before Leyton's coup, a changeling revealed to Captain Benjamin Sisko that there were only four Founders on Earth. Four, who due to only one terrorist act that they committed brought the Federation to the brink of civil war. They used our own paranoia and fear against us and while I still doubt that the Borg Collective is savvy enough to consider such things, if I were them, I wouldn't bother with infiltrators. I'd just let our natural, animalistic base instincts kick in and let that destroy us from within.
"As I sulked and wondered what to do about my growing doubts, Davis showed up at the Armstrong Bar on Starbase 146, claiming to not remember anything after the night of the destruction of the station's science lab. For all I know and for all I initially suspected, Davis' rants were related to an emotional break down. All my fears could be for nothing, be it a Borg takeover from within or a witch hunt that would have been as ultimately fruitless as those conducted in Salem, Massachusetts. And yet, I can only hope to think that I was about to be forced into a difficult plight, where I'd have to follow an order both as a man and as a Starfleet officer: eliminate the potential threat from liberated Borg. To incarcerate or kill the woman I love and the mother of a young, wonderful daughter whom I'm starting to love as my own.
"I'm just glad that for now, I didn't have to adhere to that order. Or be forced to defy it..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88760.8
"A Romulan warbird arrived at Starbase 146 today. Its commander, S'harien S'Terlaya, demanded the return of the Romulans youths the Avalon rescued last week. While neither myself nor Captain Mav are capable of making that call, we both feel inclined to believe that Ambassador Stek and the Federation Diplomatic Corps will refuse his request. One can only hope that he takes a refusal far better than another Romulan officer who received the same message from a previous captain of the U.S.S. Avalon..."
"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"The order has been given: Ambassador Stek has instructed myself and Captain Mav to not turn over the Romulan refugees to Commander S'harien due to the current political and diplomatic climate. He will likely not take this refusal lightly and I for one don't intend for the Avalon, the 146th, and the starbase to be caught flat-footed because the Romulan Empire has thought three moves ahead in this chess game. We all must have resolve, from my team on the Avalon, to the starbase crew, and to all the ships that call 146 home. This could be a showdown of epic proportions and any sign of weakness could be exploited. Whatever schemes, plans, or tricks S'harien has up his sleeves, I intend to be ready for..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88766.1
"Captain Mav and I delivered our response to Commander S'harien. After some back and forth banter, insults, and veiled threats, the commander upped the ante. He claimed that twenty-five operatives of Starfleet Intelligence had been captured on the Romulan capital of Rator and that the Tal Shiar was willing to trade them for the refugees. The Avalon and Starbase 146 still awaits confirmation from S.I. on the S'harien's claims, but for now we're stuck in a similar stalemate.
"Damn him..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88774.5
"The Avalon has returned from her mission to the Gamma Orionis Sector block to recover data cores from the wreck of the U.S.S. Emissary, a starship lost while testing anti-Borg weaponry. The cores, deemed vital by Captain Korzan Cai'lyn of Starfleet Intelligence, were retrieved and the wreck was destroyed to prevent salvage by hostile forces. Upon the retrieval of the away team and the arrival of a Borg ship, the Avalon returned to Starbase 146.
"Oh, and Q showed up..."
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental
"The threat of S'harien continues to linger over the Avalon, that our next encounter may not only determine the future of the Romulan settlements in the Tau Dewa Sector Block but the possibility of war between the Federation and the Empire as well. And yet, in spite of all that, I feel this remarkable sense of confidence. When I accepted this command, I was left with the impression that Jason Hunter ran an insane asylum; a crew of malcontents and frak-ups that it was my job to fix. At least that was the brass' impression and from what I have seen during my tenure as captain, I can only say one thing to that assertion from the admiralty: they're dumbasses.
"Even though the crew of the Avalon have not been tested in a forward position like the front lines of the war with the Klingon Empire, they behave much like my crew from the Hydra. They keep things loose and energetic; they don't let the pressures that face them overwhelm them. Be it Q, non-corporeal space aliens, the Borg, or S'harien, they have met every threat in the best way possible, not necessarily keeping with the traditions of Starfleet but in a fashion that ensures success.
"They're a good team and the only fault of the Avalon was that they had an inexperienced engineer as a captain in the past, someone who thought he could fix any problem without realizing that people aren't machines. So long as they get the job done, I'm willing to let things like Seventeen of Twenty-Five's hubris slide, like Mexis Xivix's arrogance slide, even Zap's personality quirks slide. The admiralty may want quote unquote 'model Starfleet officers' attached to this ship, but experience has taught me that quote unquote 'model Starfleet officers' are the first to frak up. The first to die, because when faced with insurmountable odds, they have their heads so far up their asses that by the time they pull them out with a thick coat of excrement on their hair and skin, it's too late and their crews are already dead. I may come off as a tough son of a bitch to my crew at times, that I act in a fashion that invalidates the praise I have just entered into this log, but at the end of the day, I can't think of a better ship or crew to have with me when the shit hits the fan.
"If I were S'harien, I'd turn around, go home, and change his underwear when faced with what the Avalon has in store for him..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 88785.3
"The Avalon responded to the arrival of a mysterious Fotian vessel, which was soon followed by an Undine dreadnaught. The 146th and associated vessels destroyed the second ship with the help of the first. Why all this happened remains a mystery..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 88813.3
"I've had a week to digest the events of the Rolor Nebula and only now I feel qualified to address them in this log. The Avalon and Unit Four Seven vessel Falchion responded to the apparent loss of one of our colonies there only to find it assimilated and a Borg cube sitting in orbit. It attacked the Avalon and abducted myself and several members of the crew and as it became quickly apparent, the vessel was not a part of the collective. During the events of the U.S.S. Voyager's return to the Alpha Quadrant over 30 years ago, it was cut off from the Borg. It grew, evolved, and learned on its own. It believed itself superior to all Borg, all life...and yet it was in chaos. It was a collection of consciounesses, not a collective conscious like the Borg.
"A rescue team led by executive officer Gathis Edwards succeeded in recovering us and planting explosives on the cube. Due to jamming, the explosives had to be triggered from within the ship and the XO volunteered to stay behind to trigger them. He...gave his life in service of this ship and the Federation. "Funeral services for Commander Gathis Edwards were held today and no sooner did they end that three Romulan D'Deridex-class warbirds entered the system, destroyed one of our science vessels, and then were mysteriously destroyed by some sort of subspace weapon before the Avalon and ships of the 146th could engage them. This pulse was tracked back to space station Deep Space 9, however our initial search has not yielded the source of the deaths of over 4,500 Romulan soldiers. I cannot help but sense the hand of S'harien behind all this; the commander of the doomed attack force was formerly his first officer. But for what purpose? To frame the Federation for the destruction of three Romulan vessels? Those ships already destroyed one of ours and there is no longer a Romulan government to file a protest against the Federation. Was his motive to merely rally the fragmenting Romulan people around a common enemy or is there something else afoot? The Avalon will remain at DS9 for the next few days in the hopes of finding an answer. As I ponder who will succeed Commander Edwards as executive officer, I now have a potentially greater problem to deal with..."

"Effective as of now, Commander Seventeen of Twenty-Five is now executive officer of the Avalon and Lieutenant Commander Itachi Rin is chief science officer and second officer. This...restructuring came ahead of a captains-only meeting aboard the starbase, where the blockade of Jarkonis and the apparent culpability of S'harien in the destruction of the three warbirds a few days ago were discussed. I get the sense that on both fronts we're in for a long, difficult struggle, but unlike my brother, I'm not out here seeking trophies and glory. I know that there's no ticker-tape parade in my future; only the satisfaction that we've all done our best job in defending the Federation against all enemies, foreign and domestic. And the strong belief that I'll have a wife and step-daughter to come home to on a nightly basis. Soon, I hope..."

"Tonight's celebration of the Earth holiday of Halloween was marred by a mysterious plague that suddenly struck the Romulan refugees who had defected to the Federation. Many of the children were sadly killed by the pathogen, but its source, a tampered replicator, was quickly located and secured. The starbase was briefly quarantined, however it was soon lifted once it was confirmed that the virus couldn't be communicated via airborne means. Although we do not know for sure who the culprit is, all signs point to S'harien. If that is the case, then I'm sure I speak for all in the 146th when I say he will be brought to justice or have justice brought to him..."

"Starbase 146 was hit today with what can be best described as a 'double whammy.' First, a mysterious vessel bypassed the station's outer defenses, destroyed the Fotian comm array, and subsequently...destroyed itself to prevent capture. However, an unmanned pod of some sort launched from the exploding vessel and was subsequently captured by the Avalon for further study. The Fotians, meanwhile, have departed 146 save for the vessel known as Tri'Star.
"It didn't end there. Upon Avalon's return to the starbase, two freighters dropped out of warp and uploaded a virus that crippled the starbase while raiders from these ships composed of species affiliated with the Klingon Empire boarded the base's shipyard and industrial fabricator. As the Avalon, the Excalibur, and the 146th Fleet responded, a Klingon Bortasqu'-class vessel dropped out of warp. It was driven off and the Avalon, Excalibur, and Tri'Star pursued. It fired off several heavy tricobalt devices at the Avalon, creating a subspace rift that the Avalon barely escaped from while the cruiser disappeared. Further intel indicates that the Bortasqu' was apparently seized by privateers; in spite of heightened tensions between the Federation and the Klingons over the pending blockade of Jarkonis, this was apparently a rogue operation designed to seize supplies from the starbase. If I were these pirates, I'd hope Avalon would catch up with them before the Empire does..."

Upon our arrival, we discovered that the Alliance had established a series of satellites designed to cloak their system, thus rendering it invisible to aggressors like the Borg. The Avalon and the Tri'star entered the veil to find that all four planets of the Alliance intact and safe. The Fotians have extended an invitation to the Avalon's crew to use their worlds for shore leave purposes and I for one am looking forward to seeing as much of them as I can. We'll be departing at 1400 Zulu, which should give the crew enough time to stretch their legs. In the mean time, the Excalibur will be exiting and reentering the veil at regular intervals for status updates from the Avalon and from Starfleet Command. "The Avalon, my ship, has now been called upon to perform two miracles. First and foremost, ensure prosperity for the new Romulan government, to protect the colony on New Romulus and the outlying settlements in the Tau Dewa Sector Block from the aggressions of the old Romulan Empire and the encroachments of the Tholian Assembly. And to top that all off, we are tasked with aiding in the ouster of Rasi Korax, now sole leader and dictator of Jarkonis II. Even though I would have preferred the Avalon to continue in the service of the 146th Auxiliary Fleet, Starfleet Command expects us to live up to the Federation Seal now painted on our hull, to be a flagship not of one fleet or sector but a flagship of all the Federation's hopes and goals. Or, as the Marines of which my common law wife once served would put it in song, from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli; while ensuring a new future for the Romulan people, we're going to create one for the people of Jarkonis. I had become so used to just being a soldier, a face in the crowd, but my assuming command of the Avalon has made me more than that. As much as I try to deny it and ignore the FNN feeds, people the Federation over are counting on me. I could ask myself 'Why me,' but I cannot afford to drown myself in speculation and second-guessing. All I can do is do my job, whatever the job the Federation asks of me. The Avalon will be successful at New Romulus, the Avalon will help pave the way for freedom and democracy on Jarkonis. That's the only acceptable outcome, not just in my eyes, but in the eyes of all of who now look upon this ship to be their champion..."

However, there were also roughly one hundred Omega molecules still in storage. Both were transported aboard and the latter was disposed of under the supervision of first officer Seventeen of Twenty-Five. "Preliminary work on getting the Federation embassy up and running on New Romulus is now complete and the seven vessels sent by the 146th Fleet should be ready to return to their starbase within the next couple of days, however in my opinion the problems plaguing this world require a very long-term commitment from Starfleet Command and the units that report to it. Therefore, I intend to recommend to Starfleet that a permanent presence from the 146th be established at New Romulus; this fleet is best suited to not only defend but also to help continue to build up this world and this new nation. Obviously, such a commitment will be a strain upon the 146th, which is why I intend to lobby Starfleet to have the Avalon reassigned back as its flagship to handle the fleet's broader duties throughout Federation space and beyond. Some might question the...logic of having an Odyssey-class starship assigned to the 146th, but I will gladly point detractors to the historical precedent of the old Starbase 47 and the Constitution-class starship Endeavour from back in the 23rd Century. Endeavour was the Avalon of her day, a ship not only charged with seeking out new life and new civilizations, but also ensuring that in a crisis one of our critical bases was defended by the best the Federation had to offer. And the fleet attached to Starbase 146 has obligations beyond the Beta Urase Sector Block, obligations that the Avalon and only the Avalon can fulfill. If someone wants to raise an eyebrow over this, so be it; this captain's mind is now made up. I'm going to bring the Avalon home, come Hell or high water..."

"In regards to ChiefSec Davis'...complaints that he expressed openly in Quark's, I am forced to make a few hard decisions. First and foremost, due to how Davis expressed his objections to my command of the Avalon in a public setting, he is hereby restricted to the ship until further notice. Once he learns that grievances such as his should be expressed in private rather than in full view of a bar, then he'll be granted shore leave privileges again. Right or wrong, his actions embarrassed this ship and this crew in the eyes of the general public and that will not be tolerated. Issues among team members should be handled in house, not within earshot of outsiders. Sad part is that in the end, we disagreed over the treatment of a veteran of war like us, someone who'd be tossed away and forgotten by her people, the Vamprosians. Davis and I have fought on the front lines, have suffered much while wearing the uniform, and so did this poor woman, who snapped under the strain. He and others on this ship may have regarded the Vamprosian pilot as a mere animal, a mindless beast, but I, 1st Lieutenant K'Laliti, and others were willing to find some way to rehabilitate her. Too frequently in the history of my species, military veterans were shunned and ignored upon the day the guns fell silent. I will not allow that dark portion of humanity's past be repeated, for our soldiers and soldiers of our allies.

All enemy vessels were destroyed or self-destructed to prevent capture. However, it would appear that there's more going on here than meets the eye.
"During the battle, the starbase's strategic operations officer and acting captain, Commander Arcen Xivix, departed 146 aboard a Jem'Hadar attack ship dubbed the Havoc. Upon consulting with Starfleet Command, I was informed that it was Xivix who provided intel on alleged True Way activities that compelled Captain Genrin Mav and first officer Kyran Yolud to take the escort vessel Vindicated away from the station, leaving Xivix in command of the starbase during the attack. Considering Xivix's behavior on New Romulus, I suspect this wasn't just a simple raid on the starbase.

The other half of this headache comes from Estelev's revelation that the buyers in this deal gone south is interesting in building some sort of bomb using the nanotechnology they've been allegedly purchasing from Itachi. Estelev has arranged for me to meet with Rin's impersonator, a woman named Lucamara, at a secure facility on Earth tomorrow. "While en route to New Romulus to show the flag in light of recent developments regarding the old Romulan Star Empire, the Avalon encountered a mysterious gravity well that seemed to appear out of no where. We quickly discovered that the source of the gravity well was a phantom planet, in orbit of which was the abandoned USS Eagle, registry NCC-956, one of the first twelve Constitution-class starships believed lost for the last 145 years. As our investigations from the Avalon and from our away team learned, the planet seems to be shifting through time...and dimensions. Sensors detected an outpost on the surface, Klingon in design, and a Klingon Vor'cha-class attack cruiser later engaged the Avalon. Their point of origin being the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance of the alternate universe. Unfortunately, our attempts to recover the Eagle were thwarted as the planet and the ships in its orbit vanished.
"But while we obtained answers to an over century old mystery regarding the fate of the Eagle following her abandonment, we've also obtained information about a ship that was more recently thought to be lost. Based on sensor records pulled from the Eagle's memory banks, the USS Reliance that was declared missing and presumed destroyed late last year may still be trapped in the alternate universe. Jason Hunter, my...brother-in-law made a mistake, but for how long shall we punish him for that mistake? I've ordered the extra to be delivered to the USS California with my compliments to her captain. Anyway, this upgrade should further discourage anyone from attacking my ship from the side. "The Avalon proceeded to the Hromi Cluster to investigate why contact was lost with the Flynn Research Outpost and the science vessel Kirkland. Our investigation revealed that all life on by the station and ship were wiped out by a Chrystalline Entity that was en route to the Nimbus Sector, the location of New Romulus. We initiated contact with the entity, however our attempts to divert it away from the Nimbus Sector instead drove it towards the Gateway System. In accordance with regulations regarding the quarantine imposed on that system, I was left with no choice but to destroy the entity. While we prevented the creature from reaching its destination or perhaps heading into Klingon territory to continue its feeding, I am personally left with the feeling that its destruction could have been avoided somehow..."

"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"Search efforts for the missing flagship of Kiso Hsalo continue, now aided by the USS Tiberius and her task group assigned to New Romulus. However, we have yet to turn up any leads and the California reports no sightings at Risa. The only lead we have to go on is that the government of Proconsul D'Tan reported losing contact with one of their birds of prey in the vicinity of where the Kusanagi was operating. Perhaps whatever befell that ship also happened to the admiral's vessel. The Avalon and the ships under our control will continue search and rescue efforts, hopefully soon to be augmented by additional forces from the 146th Fleet. We will not rest until we bring our people home or discover that there's no one to bring home..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 89114.07
"We've had a development in our search for the missing ISS Kusanagi. The USS Somerset reported finding wreckage of a Romulan bird of prey and a Tholian capital ship in the Nimbus Sector near where the admiral's ship was reported missing, leaving two possible explanations. One, the Kusanagi was captured by the Tholians. To that end, the Tiberius is deploying SIGINT satellites near the Azure Nebula where we hope to intercept hostile communications to see if they do indeed have the ship. Our second theory is that when the Tholian vessel was destroyed, the explosion created an interphasic rift that sucked the Kusanagi into an alternate universe or dimension. To that end, the Avalon is now at the site of the battle to scan for evidence of this possibility. In the meantime, the starships Fox and Aegis have joined the search and the USS Oakland will be joining us tomorrow. Meanwhile, Starfleet's called off the search at Risa and recalled the USS California to Deep Space 9. Apparently one of the higher ups thinks that lightning doesn't strike the same place twice...or eight times in this case..."

"Analysis of the debris discovered in the Nimbus Sector has revealed that the wreckage of the Romulan and Tholian ships are slightly out of phase, indicating that an interphasic rift was indeed created by the destruction of the latter. However, there is no sign at all of the Kusanagi. Perhaps she escaped, perhaps she was pulled into another dimension. The Avalon's left a warning buoy and will continue to coordinate the search, at least in our universe..."

"Our search for the Kusanagi is entering its 4th day with no results. However, multiple search ships report unusual sensor ghosts, contacts slightly out of phase with our universe. Is it possible that we've found the Kusanagi after all?"
"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"Our continued search for the Kusanagi was briefly interrupted by the reappearance of the Q entity. His presence, like always, proved to be a minor annoyance, however he did reveal information that confirmed our theories about the current whereabouts of the Admiral Hsalo's flagship. The Kusanagi is trapped in a parallel dimension, one referred to as 'Despair' by our advisor Kat Syala, where the worst horrors that can be thought of come to life. Needless to say, time is of the essence. If we can't figure out how to rescue the ship on our own, I'm calling for a fleet meeting at our embassy on New Romulus in two days time to brainstorm a possible plan of attack. I also intend to meet on that world with Arcen Xivix and Syn'Dal to discuss our apparently mutual foe: S'harien..."

All civilian and non-essential personnel have been offloaded, including my wife and step-daughter. The aerosol form of the theragen derivative has been mass produced and tied into our life support systems, ready for delivery if we're called on to rescue the Kusanagi. Now we wait for the next interphase and can only hope that we can save the Kusanagi from the horrors they now face..."

Joining us for this rescue attempt will be our new security chief and tactical officer, Lieutenant Commander Thane V'alek, a Ferasan. Hopefully he's up to the challenge now facing us..."

"With modifications to the Avalon now complete, we are proceeding to the last reported position of the Kusanagi. Our science department headed by Lieutenant j.g. The Avalon's environmental systems have now been modified to distribute the theragen derivative in aerosol form on demand, our MACO teams and appropriately trained Starfleet personnel such as myself are in full body armor, and our power systems are shielded against any energy drain from the interphasic rift, along with all civilian and nonessential personnel being offloaded and shipped back to Starbase 146. This ship is as ready for what lies before her in the area called 'Despair' as she'll ever be If there are insect-like monsters plaguing Admiral Hsalo's ship, then they're in for a well-armed and rather rude awakening..."

"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"Our first attempt at rescuing the full crew of the Kusanagi has failed. We ran out of time before the ship phased out again thanks to a new complication: the ship's not only out of phase with our universe, but with our time period, as well, ranging from weeks into the future to decades. Whether or not this is due to the nature of the ship or some other anomaly is unknown. We do have some proof of the claims that her crew is under assault by some unknown force and members of the away team we sent over experienced some...troubling incidents, particularly those with telepathic capabilities. We've had one bit of good news, though; before the Kusanagi vanished, she launched multiple escape pods, all containing Vulcans and Betazoids all of whom are presently comatose. Hopefully when they can be revived they can shed more light on what's happened. In the mean time, we're calculating the next point of interphase where hopefully the Avalon can make another attempt to bring all our people home..."

"The Avalon has returned to New Romulus to investigate reports of...something entering the planet's atmosphere and making a forced landing in the ocean west of the main settlement. Earlier reports from Starbase 234 indicate that the ISS Kusangi was involved in a skirmish in this sector and might be responsible for the planet-fall of the current sensor contacts. We'll know for sure soon. While the New Romulan government undertakes this rescue at sea, it is in my judgment that any survivors be remanded over to Starfleet custody when appropriate. The aliens who attacked the Kusanagi at whatever point in time have an adverse affect on telepaths, including our helmsman, MACO commanding officer, and nurse/liaison to the Fotian alliance, to say nothing of our new Ferasan chief of security. Whatever life form that has managed to escape the Kusangi and the spatial interphase, we must keep a vigilant eye on it..."

For now, he too is being treated and sickbay is on a full lockdown while Dr. Whitlock assesses the threat this organism poses. "The Gem'natean government has finally formalized the details for an away team from the Avalon's arrival on their planet tomorrow. The delay, as I've been told, was due to their mistrust of outsiders fostered by their tragic first contact with the Hirogen. In the mean time, this has given engineering teams from the Avalon additional time to stop the tetryon leak from the wrecked Hirogen ship in orbit of Geminus and dispose of those components safely. However, we're still no closer to finding a solution to the species-wide cataclysm that prevents the Gem'natean's from giving birth to pairs. Perhaps Starfleet Medical can get the Gem'natean's in touch with scientists on Andoria, whose inhabitants have been suffering similar genetic problems for decades. At any rate, the Avalon will be departing Geminus after the meeting tomorrow."
"And finally, permission for the Gem'natean's to post observers aboard the Avalon is hereby granted. The territory we'll be exploring in the weeks and months ahead are right in their backyard. Perhaps we should explore it together..."

"The Avalon was intercepted by a Romulan shuttle bearing none other than S'harien, who surrendered himself to us. With our suspicions raised, he informed us that General Solius, the current main power on Rator III, is preparing to make his move against the Federation with support from factions within the Klingon Empire. As proof of his claim, he pointed us in the direction of a convoy of Romulan vessels bound for Qo'Nos led by his former command, the IRW Vreenak. After warning Starfleet Command, the Avalon pursued and exposed them, though his former first officer claimed they were on a routine surveillance mission of Klingon space and vowed to file a protest before turning back to imperial territory. It is the opinion of this officer that this was no surveillance mission; one wouldn't send one let alone three Mogai-class escorts to perform reconaissance.
"I intend to recommend Starfleet that our presence along the Romulan Empire's border be stepped up to counter any potential threat from Solius. I've already dispatched a warning to Captain T'Kor of the Klingon Defense Force warning him that the factions in the Klingon Empire intend to quietly remove any elements in favor of ending the war with the Federation. As much as I find trusting S'harien's word distasteful, I suspect he also finds the prospect of seeking me out for help equally distasteful. For now, he remains in our brig and will be transferred to General Woden's custody on New Romulus during the Excalibur's next supply run. Sooner he's off my ship, the better..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 89253.8
"Starfleet Command has decided to take S'harien's warnings seriously and has ordered a build-up of forces along the Federation-Romulan Empire border, the Avalon included. Can't say I blame them; they must feel as I do that S'harien is a patriot, that his actions demonstrate that he is a devout believer in the Romulan Star Empire, that he'll do whatever is necessary to preserve what he believes to be the best interests of that admittedly failing government, even if that mean turning himself over for arrest to the Avalon in order to stop whatever Solius is planning. And while I firmly believe he is guilty of multiple crimes against the Federation, I am not naive enough to dismiss his warnings based on any prior bias against him. Because I know his actions, no matter how heinous, have been in the interests of propping up his once proud and powerful regime and that he finds launching an all-but certainly doomed attack on the Federation to be more reprehensible than seeking out Federation aid in trying to stop it. Once the Avalon has finished up her current mapping mission tomorrow, we'll proceed back along an extended course along the Federation's border with the Romulan Empire in the hopes that the presence of the starship that has thwarted so many plans of the Tal Shiar and the people they claim to represent will dissuade further aggression..."

Furthermore, I request that in the interest of cooperation with the Klingon Empire that Starfleet send over a liaison officer that is trusted by both us and the KDF in the person of Lieutenant Commander Hromar Williams. If S'harien's word is to be fully trusted, then Solius plans to strike at both our peoples; Williams is respected as a Starfleet officer and a highly regarded warrior among the Klingons whose support we need now more than ever. The True Way ships allegedly stole a thalaron generator from the Empire that the Tal Shiar was keen on retrieving. "The wedding of Genrin and Alvara went off without a hitch. The hitch came afterwards, when Admiral Bateson informed me that I would be taking over as commanding officer of the 146th Fleet. But, as he told me, I will remain as captain of the Avalon, where as he put it I can make a difference. I intend to, both as captain and as fleet commander. But, fleet issues can wait; let them and my crew enjoy tonight's happy moment for now before the real work begins. We're smack in the middle of the politics of the Romulan Empire and the Romulan Republic; we may officially be an auxiliary fleet, but we seem to be on the front line of this new crisis. For too long I've felt that Starfleet Command was asking too much of us while giving us too little support in return. An auxiliary fleet supports other fleets; who supports us in our time of need? "Upon our arrival in the T'iokol system, the Avalon detected debris from several of the missing Starfleet vessels along with Reman warbirds abandoning and destroying a colony world. They claimed there were 'demons' that had forced their departure and said demons quickly made their presence known. A Mogai-class heavy warbird modified with Borg technology and utilizing torpedoes first employed by the Narada 25 years ago attacked and crippled the Avalon. The commander of that vessel claimed to be picking up where Sela and Hakeev left off. Utilizing both the Excalibur and the device the warbird used to disable the ship, we were able to destroy them. The Imperial Star Navy warbird Ra'kholh under the command of S'Taev towed us clear of the singularity core inversion. Chief Engineer Fearos estimates that our battle damage can be repaired in 8 hours. Until we're ready to get underway, the Ra'kholh will watch over us and escort us to Rator. "Captain's Log: Supplemental
"The Avalon has concluded her visit to Rator III and we've returned to Federation space. My meeting with Lord Regent Solius and Senator Chavek went about as well as expected and now the Federation must consider our next move..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 89339.8
"In light of the situation regarding the Romulan Empire and my report on my meeting with Lord Regent Solius, the Avalon has been recalled to Earth where I'll be discussing these events in person with Starfleet Command and members of the Federation Security Council..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 89345.9
"The Federation Council has concluded that despite my report, there exists no credible evidence that Solius intends to attack New Romulus and therefore is not inclined to take action at this time. I just hope that the first piece of credible evidence that does surface isn't a fleet of Imperial warbirds de-cloaking over Mol'rihan..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 89349.5
"The Avalon has taken up a patrol station along the border of the Romulan Empire. While Admiral Hackett and the 234th Fleet maintains a sizable picket in this area and while the Federation Council does not desire to take preventative measures against Solius, I nonetheless feel the need to show the flag. Perhaps being an admiral isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 89351.9
"After a thorough analysis of the data chip supplied by Senator Chavek of the Romulan Empire, we now have proof that General Solius, lord regent of the Empire, intends to attack and bombard New Romulus out of existence. The Avalon's returning to Earth to present these latest findings to the Federation Council, findings that they can't possibly ignore..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 89359.9
"The Avalon has departed Starbase 146 on course for the rendezvous point in the Azure Nebula, where the fleet's already beginning to gather. We're taking a circuitous route to avoid detection, which means we will not be on station until tomorrow. Solius' forces are now less than 24 hours from the picket, less than 48 from attacking Starbase 234. With the combined weight of the 146th Fleet, Unit 47, the Fotians, and the House of Ka'rel, we represent the best chance of stopping Solius before he wipes New Romulus off the map..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 89365.4
"The combined forces of the 146th Fleet, the House of Ka'rel, Unit 47, the 8492nd PATCOM, the Fotian Alliance, and the remnants of the Federation 7th Fleet engaged and defeated the forces of General Solius at Starbase 234...with the assistance of Commander S'Taev and many other Romulan commanders who've had enough the Empire. All factions who joined together in defense of New Romulus suffered heavy losses and while Solius escaped, his forces were routed. Although S'Taev couldn't speak for the rest of the Romulans who stood with him, he has vowed to join the Republic. While Solius is now free and missing, it would appear that the current crisis is over..."

"The Avalon is departing Deep Space 9 for New Romulus to follow up on allegations that Colonel S'harien, while still in custody at our embassy, is somehow in contact with forces on Cardassia Prime. I doubt he'll be forthcoming, but if he's up to something, we must make every effort to ensure that he's stopped..."
"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"The Avalon's arrived at New Romulus, slower than normal due to concerns about potential lingering issues with the warp drive due to the action this ship has seen. No sooner did we make orbit did we detect the USS Paladin, flagship of Admiral Blake of the Federation 4th Fleet, sitting in orbit. Wonderful..."
"Captain's Log: Stardate 89381.6
"The Avalon has returned to Starbase 146 with a sense of urgency. According to what I was able to glean from S'harien, he has instructed operatives on Cardassia Prime to assassinate several members of the Detapa Council, all while still being confined to a holding cell at our embassy on New Romulus. The Avalon will head to Deep Space 9 tomorrow to formally warn Gul Gojack of the Cardassian Civil Defense Force of this new threat. The True Way is composed of former members of the Obsidian Order and the Order once conspired with the Tal Shiar in an ill-fated attack on the Founders' homeworld back in 2371. Naturally, S'harien was not forthcoming with specifics, though I believe we can't take the chance of ignoring this threat and General Woden agrees. He will be transferred to a transport vessel attached to the Federation 4th Fleet and sent to solitary confinement on Starbase 234. I only hope the 4th's ability is on par with its commander's boasting..."

"We continue our patrol slash shakedown run in the Beta Ursae Sector Block following the battle against Solius. Other than a marked increase in Romulan Republic ship traffic in the area, everything appears to be normal..."
"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"The Avalon has diverted to the Rolor Nebula upon detection of an unknown warp signature by the Athens Array. We picked up a small warp craft, perhaps the first such vessel from a planet within the nebula. However, its mission of exploration was put in jeopardy as the star in the system threatened it with a solar flare, one with the potential power to destroy it..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 89441.4
"I haven't had much of a chance to summarize the events of the past couple of weeks in this log, so here goes. During a joint mission with the USS Exodus at Nimbus III, Captain Jason Hunter of the USS California was abducted by agents of the Tal Shiar. Several days later, we learned why: he was arrested and charged with the murder of nearly eight thousand Romulan soldiers last year during the battle against General Tomalar's forces. Unfortunately, Hunter's logs at the time seem to support the Empire's claim.
"Since then, we've been working to ascertain Hunter's current location. The Avalon last week launched a mission to the Vault to search for clues as to where the Tal Shiar moved their Borg research division, learning that they relocated to S'harien Station (which was already destroyed three years ago) and the previously unknown Installation 012. According to Commander S'Taev of the Romulan Republic, Installation 012 was allegedly a Romulan political prison established around 70 years ago under then-Praetor Dralath. Following his overthrow during the aftermath of the Battle of Narendra III, knowledge of this prison was lost. S'Taev theorized that the Tal Shiar took it over and have kept it out of the records of the Empire since then. To that end, I intend to take the Avalon to Starbase 234 to question its resident Tal Shiar prisoner.
"Meanwhile, an attempt to obtain information about Hunter from Tal Shiar vice-chairman Senator Chavek almost ended in disaster when our espionage team was exposed. While they were successful in uploading a program to forward all communications from the IRW Vrax to the Republic warbird Korvix, Chavek has apparently become paranoid and the Vrax has not sent anything of consequence. The senator's consular ship is now nearing Rator III.
"We don't have many leads, but I'm confident one way or the other that we'll free Jason Hunter..."

"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"The Avalon responded to the distress call of the Federation science vessel Hiawatha, thought lost decades ago in the conflagration following the Hobus Supernova. We found the ship populated by sentient photonic life forms that worshiped 'The Captain' and called 'The Chief Science Officer' their creator. An analysis of the Hiawatha's logs revealed that Science Officer Simpson was running an experiment involving the simulation of rapid evolution of photonic bacteria. While the crew had abandoned ship, the experiment continued, resulting in the creation of a holographic civilization aboard the Hiawatha that was on the verge of being wiped out due to overtaxing the dying ship's computer systems. Thanks to Chief Engineer Fearos and Assistant Chief J'rai, we were able to stabilize the situation aboard the Hiawatha until a Starfleet Corps of Engineers vessel can tow her to a starbase. How these holograms will be integrated into Federation society remains unknown; while the Prime Directive looms over all our heads like the Sword of Damocles, in the end the Federation is responsible for the creation of this new civilization.
"We remain, for now, along the Romulan frontier deploying WSKR probes to extend our scanning range. Hopefully they'll pick up some trace of the infamous Installation 012..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 89447.9
"WSKR 4-2 detected something within a binary star system dubbed Hades Gamma that has caught the Avalon's interest. In orbit of one of the gas giants is a Class M moon with a settlement on the surface...but in orbit is a Romulan shipyard, one converting warbirds into those Borgified monstrosities in use by the Tal Shiar. It appears that we may have found the fabled Installation 012.
"However, there's been another development. The RRW Korvix has computed the course of the IRW Vrax; she's headed for Starbase 146. Unfortunately, the Avalon can't risk transwarping back to the starbase; if there's a cloaked Romulan ship tailing us, that might tip them off that we've found what we're looking for. I've sent a coded alert to the starbase but for now, Captain Mav is on his own..."
