"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"Recorded under security code Alpha 6. The situation involving Jason Hunter and the Romulan Empire has taken a sharp turn for the worst. Senator Chavek, vice-chairman of the Tal Shiar, visited Starbase 146 and outlined a deal for Hunter's return: he would be willing to trade him and 125 Federation intelligence operatives in exchange for the release of General Risha Tomalar, the same Tal Shiar operative who threatened war with the Federation a year ago. If we do not comply, Chavek has threatened that in Hunter's trial his actions, questionable to some, will be exposed, along with the imprisonment of Tomalar in a secret detention facility. Make the trade and all this goes away, along with the scandal that's sure to befall any admiral or politician behind that prison.
"How in the hell did we get in so deep? Was Tomalar a threat? The logs I've read have proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt. Does that warrant putting her in a hole for the last year? A year ago if someone asked that, I would have said, 'Yes sir, lock the bitch up. Twice over.' Now...after spending the last 10 months in command of this vessel, of seeing the Starfleet I looked up to for all my life for the first time since the war with the Klingons broke out, I'm...questioning things.
"Damn Chavek. He went to Starbase 146 knowing that Genrin and I would react like this, that on the one hand we want to recover our people but on the other hand we couldn't condone the things he's accusing our Federation of doing. He's played the both of us like an expert puppet master. As much as I'd like to handle this myself, I know I have no authority to. The Avalon is now on course back to Deep Space 9, which once again seems to be an odd confluence of people in power, Chavek included. They'll have to decide Hunter and Tomalar's fate.
"In the meantime, this situation has presented a potential security risk to the Avalon. Chavek presented Captain Mav with excerpts from Hunter's log from a year ago. Said portions match the records retained on this vessel. Obviously, the Avalon has or had a Tal Shiar spy on board that sent these logs back to the Romulan Empire. I've ordered Security Chief Va'rek to look into the matter. But no matter what we find or who we hold accountable for this espionage, I fear the damage has already been done..."

"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"In addition to being roped into being a judge at tomorrow's talent show at the starbase, I'm also serving as president of the trial board at the court martial of Hromar Williams. Prosecution and defense attorneys are set as is Captain Tiana RasTalon as the second member of the board; Captains Decker and Andersen are my choices pending their acceptance of the offer. As much as the fleet thinks Williams is taking one for his friend Jason Hunter, this court martial may buy us time before the Romulan Empire carries out their damn show trial of Hunter and buy us time before the Federation seriously considers the trade offer on the table, an offer that Vice Admiral Blake hinted to me earlier that the Federation was taking seriously in light of...a lot of stuff.
"In related news, First Officer Seventeen of Twenty-Five has informed me that the last two people who accessed Hunter's personal logs on the Avalon were herself on my order and Hunter just prior to his leaving the ship. That heavily implies that the Tal Shiar stole the logs they're using against him from the California and I've sent off the appropriate warnings to that ship. Maybe this and Williams' act of self sacrifice can turn the tables on Senator Chavek.
"Finally, Commander Rin Itachi has requested a ship to investigate an anomaly near DS9. As much as I'd like the Avalon to handle this just to take everyone's mind off of the travails our fleet is faced with, I'd prefer to keep the Avalon close to home. We're due for a live-fire test of the current power configurations and the asteroid in orbit of one of the outer gas giants of Starbase 146's system seems to fit the bill. I'm sure everyone on this ship will be picturing Senator Chavek's face on whatever desolate mountain we phaser into oblivion.
"And, I find myself attempting to celebrate my first Father's Day as a parent, and yet I cannot help but think of Carly, Darren, and Monica, who cannot celebrate this day with their father, of my father-in-law Ed who can't be here with his son thanks to the machinations of the Romulan Empire. As Carly, Darren, and Monica's uncle, as Ed's son-in-law, and as Jason's brother-in-law and commanding officer, I vow here and now to make this right, to bring this family back together, whatever it takes..."

"The First Annual 146th Fleet Talent Show was a rousing success, with Captain Tiana RasTalon bringing the house down with her stand-up routine and taking home first place, Admiral Phenice Davenport scoring second with a sultry song and dance number, and third place going to Varal Malfaire's prop comedy. All in all, a much needed boost to troop morale, though I'm not sure how my daredevil antics at the end of the show went over. I suppose all of us need a release in these trying times.
"In other news, as convening authority for the court martial of Hromar Williams, I have recused myself as a member of the trial board. A pity, but this will force a short delay to the court martial. I hope the Romulan Empire doesn't mind too much..."

"Our weapons' test has yielded a quite unexpected find. Analysis of the dust cloud from the asteroid the Avalon fired upon revealed traces of dilithium. Probes sent to the asteroid confirmed the find, along with such elements as topaline and pergium among others. Given this system's proximity to the Vlugta system, this almost confirms that the old Klingon Dilithium Crescent theory is correct. And with reports that the primary mines in the Coridan system are nearly depleted, having a source of dilithium under the exclusive control of the Federation would be a major boon to our efforts. I've informed Starfleet and they've begun the process of establishing a mine on the asteroid and surveys of the other satellites of the eighth planet for more mineral sources is ongoing. For now, the 146th Fleet's patrols in orbit of the planet will be quietly stepped up to prevent illegal mining efforts..."

"Captain...still trying to get used to everyone calling me that and not just the Avalon's crew. On the one hand I don't mind the responsibility being taken off my hands, but...I still can't help but feel it was for the wrong reasons. I don't trust Blake's excuse, that the promotion was just a temporary one a la George Armstrong Custer six hundred years ago on Earth. It strikes me as a way to keep me under thumb in regards to Jason's capture. I suppose someone felt it was better that if I pulled a cowboy stunt, it'd be less of an issue if I did it with one ship rather than an entire fleet. Still doesn't change the fact that I won't utilize every resource at my disposal to see Clarie's brother freed..."

"Thanks to some new...intel, I now know who the major player in Starfleet is who's trying to protect the arguably illegal system of secret prisons and is willing to trade Tomalar for Jason in order to protect them: Vice Admiral Andrew Blake of the 4th Fleet. In fact, according to his jacket, he was four years ago attached to Starfleet Security, placing him in the right spot to establish these facilities. A series of prisons where we can throw anyone we deem a threat into without due process? Is that what this war has reduced us to? And have we become so desperate to guard our secrets that we're willing to let a monster like Tomalar go even though it'd jeopardize our relations with the Romulan Republic and the Klingon Empire?! That's not Starfleet to me, that's not what this Federation stands for. I need more proof, but I intend to see Blake and his co-conspirators answer for this.
"And...note to self: might be a good idea to ask Clarie to take another DNA test to see if she's actually related to the insanity that is the Hunter clan..."

"Cracking Station 47 has come online along with the benefits of having a dilithium mine in the same system as Starbase 146. However, word has reached us that the defense in the court martial of Hromar Williams has called none other than Imperial Romulan General D'Llhran tr'Lhaithra to the stand. Rumor has it that his flagship is a dreadnaught warbird and while his answering this summons means he's subjecting himself to the rules of a Starfleet trial, I don't intend to take any chances..."

"The anomaly detected along the Delta Quadrant border turned out to be a massive vessel belonging to a species calling themselves the 'Ysh. After witnessing the vessel destroy an Undine dreadnaught, we attempted to open a dialogue, where they made it clear that they wished to be left alone. A fleet of Klingon warships then suddenly arrived and despite the Avalon's warnings attempted to engage the 'Ysh in a dialogue as well. Not satisfied with the 'Ysh's refusal for contact, the Klingon fleet moved to engage and were soundly defeated. During that battle, the Avalon transwarped to safety. Both the lack of willingness for contact and the loss of Klingon life are unfortunate, but unfortunately not every species believes in cordial relations with their neighbors. I've dispatched a warning to Starfleet Command to give the 'Ysh a wide berth from now on to hopefully prevent another tragedy..."

"The court martial of Hromar Williams may have ended in an acquittal, however the Romulan Empire didn't wait for the verdict before making their next move. Senator Chavek's vessel, the Vrax, left Deep Space 9 abruptly and under cloak. The Avalon is attempting to track her but to no avail. Furthermore, my sources at Starfleet indicate that the USS Paladin, flagship of Vice Admiral Andrew Blake, is also rigged for silent running. Despite Willams being found not guilty, it seems the trade of Jason Hunter for General Tomalar is continuing anyway..."

"Recorded under security lockout Alpha 3. Deep Space 9 sent out a distress call reporting an unknown ship had destroyed a Cardassian fleet before heading into the Rolor Nebula. The Avalon pursued and found a partially disabled freighter, who reported one of their crew, a Mr. Stamy, abandoned ship with their attackers in hot pursuit. We followed the trail to a frozen moon of a gas giant in a nearby star system, where Stamy's pod was found. Our away team also discovered six dead Hirogen, apparently at his hands, which he admitted when we confronted him. Our suspicions raised, we beamed Stamy into our brig while we dealt with a homing beacon attached to our hull.
"Upon questioning and after a medical scan, Stamy was revealed to be Rasi Imidail, the infamous Trill who was formerly a governor on Jarkonis II. Desperate to escape whoever had placed a bounty or death warrant on his head, he offered a deal: a ship to take him away and denial that we ever saw him in exchange for intel on where and when the exchange of Jason Hunter and General Tomalar is going to take place. Feeling that he'd do anything to save his own skin, I tentatively agreed to the trade just as a Hirogen dreadnaught opened fire on the Avalon. After sustaining damage to both the Avalon and Excalibur, we transwarped back to Starbase 146 with our passenger on board. Chief Engineer Fearos expects the ship to be fully operational in a few days.
"And now I find myself having to trust Rasi. I might as well be cutting a deal with S'harien..."

"The irony of today is not lost on me. Trusting the possibility that Rasi holds the information vital to saving Jason Hunter, a man who lost his command due to the machinations of the despicable piece of...the person who now sits in the Avalon's brig. I know I have enough to guarantee that Blake's career is finished and he spends a good long while in a Federation stockade, but without Rasi's information, I can't stop what is to come and even then I have zero leverage over Senator Chavek. I'm going to be asking a lot of this crew in the coming days; no so coincidentally, the last time one of their captains went toe-to-toe with a vice admiral was during the Jarkonis Crisis of last year. I hope I have better luck and in the time we have before this inevitable confrontation, I hope to consult and spend personal time with every officer on this ship and every command officer in the fleet to hopefully build a coalition willing to save Jason Hunter and bring a rogue admiral to justice..."

"Recorded under security lockout Alpha 3. The deal's been made; Rasi Imidail has been given a beat-up old Type 6 shuttle and is now on his way to...wherever while he's given us what we hopefully need to stop the transaction between Blake and Chavek. He gave us two sets of coordinates, one in the Eridan Belt and one in the Afehhir Nebula. It's possible one's the real site of the trade and the other a decoy, however Yeoman Holly Short theorizes that exchanges will be happening at both sites. Jason Hunter will be handed over to the Federation at one and General Tomalar will be released to the Romulan Empire at the other. I'm inclined to agree with her; seems fitting for both the Tal Shiar and Blake..."
