"Our investigation into the apparent kidnapping of Sonea Kelari revealed a culprit: the Romulan Empire. She was lured from a beach party by a false message claiming someone from her time period wanted to meet her in a secluded location. She was taken aboard a vessel with the false name RRW Slamek, then that ship was subsequently destroyed. The USS Wright found the wreckage and sent out a distress call upon encountering what they termed a 'scary ship.' When the Avalon arrived, all we found was more wreckage. The starships Kitty Hawk and St. Louis have secured the scene while the Avalon has returned to Risa empty-handed..."
"Starfleet Admiral Jo'lok has tasked the Avalon with proceeding to Veyga III in the Hromi Sector, presently under the occupation of forces of the Klingon Empire. It is also the home planet of the young woman who attacked the auction on Deep Space 9 last week. We are to deliver relief supplies that we'll be loading at Starbase 146. Although the admiral assures me that everything has been arranged in advance, I still want the Avalon ready for anything..."
"The Avalon is approaching the Veyga system on a mission of mercy to the third planet. With the planet under Klingon occupation, the crew is understandably on their toes..."
"We have potential locations for the trade of Jason Hunter for Tomalar, and now thanks to a contact of mine at Starfleet Logistics, we have a date. Stardate 89575.4 to be precise, just four days from now. I'm going to try to organize the fleet quietly, mobilize them officially as a training exercise. Hopefully that'll avert suspicions and give us a chance to put an end to this conspiracy once and for all and bring our man home.
"These are going to be a long four days. This crisis has cost me...us too much as it is..."
"The Avalon's been ordered to patrol the Imperial Romulan border. Forces of the Star Empire have been repeatedly probing our outposts, testing for signs of weakness and response times of our patrols. Starfleet hopes that a show of one of our flagships will inform the government on Rator that we've taken notice..."
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental
"The time of Jason Hunter's trade is fast approaching and I can tell everyone's on edge. Clarie's back, her niece Carly's making...progress, but the shadow of a man missing because I sent him to Nimbus III hangs over everyone who knows him. Things today look better than they did yesterday, but one wrong move can spell disaster...and I'll have to live with that for the rest of my life..."
"The Avalon continues to patrol the Imperial Romulan border. No sightings so far, which makes one wonder if they don't want their favorite flagship to see something..."
"On priority orders from CINC Starfleet Admiral Jorel Quinn, the Avalon entered the Romulan Neutral Zone to investigate reports of a battle. We quickly discovered that an Imperial Romulan warbird had been destroyed by a Chodak dreadnaught, an ancient race that had millennia ago once controlled most of the galaxy. According to the admiral in charge of this dreadnaught, the Chodak intend to take advantage of the strife within the Romulan Star Empire in order to build a new Chodak Empire. However, a second dreadnaught appeared and drove the first off, the second belonging to a group inspired by the Chodak's encounter with then-Captain Jean-Luc Picard over forty years ago to find a better way for their people...ironically much like the Romulan Republic.
"The Avalon sustained moderate damage when caught between the two Chodak ships and we've resumed our patrol course. Once complete, we'll return to Starbase 146 ahead of the fleet's scheduled training exercise..."
"The 146th Fleet along with an allied force intercepted the exchange of Jason Hunter and General Tomalar, albeit mere moments too late. Captain Hunter was recovered, General Tomalar was executed at the hands of Chavek, and the senator was taken into custody due to his alleged involvement with the abduction of Sonea Kelari on Risa. After convincing Starfleet Command and the Federation Council to issue an arrest warrant against Admiral Blake, the Avalon and a task force led by the Enterprise arrived to find our forces and Blake's besieged by a Borg command vessel summoned some how by Chavek's flagship. In the end, Admiral Blake rammed his flagship, the Paladin, into the Borg vessel, damaging it enough for the combined fleet to finish it off. Regardless of his actions over the past several years, Vice Admiral Andrew Blake gave his life in the line of duty as any other Starfleet officer would be expected to, a sentiment I conveyed to his thirteen year old daughter, his only surviving blood relative. Might as well for now let her believe her father died a hero as opposed to knowing the sins he committed...
"Strike teams recovered Tomalar's remains, which will be turned over to his next of kin, Romulan General D'Llhran tr'Lhaithra at Deep Space 9 at the earliest convenience. Miss Kelari was also recovered, though like Captain Hunter her ordeal in captivity has proven...problematic. Both have been transferred to Starbase 146's medical wing for treatment with heavy security. While the Avalon sustained minor damage in the battle against the Borg, the Excalibur took some serious hits and might be a few days before she's ready to fly again.
"Strange...I've hated Blake's guts for over twenty years now. I gambled that in spite of our youthful rivalry, he was a Starfleet officer no different than me, that'd he would stand down when cornered. That much I was right about, but his choosing to die to save the rest of us. Perhaps this is the one instance in my life when people who's opinion I hold in so low a regard actually surprise me. And yet, I can't help but think of his daughter, someone I didn't know existed until I re-read his file a few days ago. Children think the world of their parents, daughters especially of their fathers...until they discover inevitably that even the ones they love the most aren't perfect..."
"The Excalibur remains docked at Deep Space 9 while myself and Science Officer Maus await the arrival of General Tomalar's son to deliver her remains..."
"The Avalon has received new orders and the Excalibur has departed DS9 to rejoin the ship. General Tomalar's casket was left on the station under guard..."
"The Avalon is on course for the Maiewski system to recover a space probe containing data on the Klingon occupation of Veyga III. Once the data is analyzed, we will proceed from there..."
"The Avalon located the probe we were ordered to find only to discover that its contents weren't data but a man: one Doctor Heldich Tel'kes, last seen on Veyga III. Three Klingon birds of prey appeared and fired on the Avalon, however with a little brute force and classic Starfleet ingenuity, we were able to cripple our assailants and transwarp back to Earth. The Avalon will remain in orbit of Earth as we transfer our...cargo and await future assignments..."
"Dr. Tel'kes has delivered his intel to Starfleet and the Federation Council. With the Klingon Empire now apparently testing bioweapons on the population of Veyga III, the Council now hopes to apply pressure to the Klingons to withdraw from the planet. The doctor's getting a lot of praise, though some of us wish we could wrap our..."
"...Never mind. The Avalon remains at Earth and perhaps I'll run into my nephew when he arrives at the Academy..."
"The Excalibur has arrived at Deep Space 9 to attempt to once again hand over two fatalities from the rescue of Jason Hunter, however it may turn out nobody wants. Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Tempest Arbriel-Kell has tasked the Avalon with accompanying the starship Exodus to the B'Tran cluster to aid in evacuating one of our colonies. The admiral will be providing Captain Tiana RasTalon and myself full details in a forthcoming briefing..."
"During the Excalibur's stay at Deep Space 9, I had an interesting encounter in Quark's. Carly Jacobs, the counterpart of our Carly Hunter from the alternate universe, who claims she's no longer an operative of the Terran Empire and has a...proposal. My immediate reaction is to distrust her, but on the other the same person who broke into our embassy on New Romulus and downloaded its entire computer database isn't stupid enough to try something while at a clear disadvantage. Meanwhile, I'm forwarding all the Avalon's logs regarding her and the ship she was last attached to, the ISS Midway under the command of their Jason Hunter, to Admiral Slavik's office along with the recommendation we play this out...until she gives us reason to turn the tables..."
"The Excalibur has docked with the Avalon in anticipation of some form of trouble with the Terran Empire. Maybe Carly Jacobs is telling the truth, maybe she isn't, but I still have the nagging feeling there's more trouble from the other side of the mirror lurking somewhere out there.
"And I just got word my nephew Jack's starting his first day at Starfleet Academy. They grow up so fast..."
"My nephew Jack called a little while ago, telling me of the...interesting first day he had. Apparently a fellow cadet was killed in the line of duty and he was shaken up. I guess a lot's changed at the Academy over the past twenty years. They apparently now pull that stunt in the fall semester, not spring..."
"The Avalon's battle drill for today was cut short by the arrival of the I.S.S. Excalibur, the alternate universe counterpart to this ship's Aquarius-class escort piloted by Carly Jacobs. The major reaffirmed her assertion that she had cut ties with the Terran Empire and sought asylum, guaranteeing us access to her cybernetic upgrades which she promised could do everything from fully liberate former Borg drones from their implants to ensure immortality.
"While investigating a rift between our two universes, we were approached by the I.S.S. Avalon under the command of my counterpart. He demanded we hand over his Excalibur and Jacobs and believing he wouldn't take no for answer, we defended ourselves, firing on the enemy ship while Jacobs used her cybernetic upgrades to give us an opening to defeat the Terran dreadnaught. The other Avalon appeared to implode due to some sort of core breach. With the I.S.S. Excalibur in tow, we're returning to Starbase 146 where Miss Jacobs' asylum case will be heard.
"The U.S.S. Avalon proved herself once again, battle drill or no, but the real test may come when we accompany the Exodus to the B'Tran Cluster..."
