"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental
"Here I sit on the eve of my birthday and the eve of the briefing for a mission that will almost certainly take the Avalon and Exodus to the B'Tran Cluster, the very heart of Borg occupied space, and I cannot help but think that my nephew's current situation is...reminding me of the events of twenty-one years ago. Obviously I don't know Jack's situation with Cadet DuCardt, but what little I know reminds me of how Clarie and I first met during my senior year.
"Starfleet had just recovered her from the wreck of a Borg ship on the fringes of explored space, the first encounter with the collective since Voyager's return decades earlier. They had allowed her to visit the 602 Club and there I was hanging out with Cam, who egged me on to approach her on a dare. So I dared and she rebuffed me; she not being free enough from the Borg's indoctrination to understand my advances on a physical level, let alone understand them emotionally. But I kept at it and eventually helped her to rediscover her humanity just as she helped me to discover what it means to be a man in love with a woman. Only tragedy in all this is that it took us two decades to finally settle down.
"And it's...an even bigger tragedy that I've let my suspicions about her drive a wedge between us. I've been...tempted to cut her loose based on what I know, but Jack's relationship with Cadet DuCardt has reminded me that's the easy way out, the callous way out. I brought Clarie back from one of the worst scourges the Federation has ever known; for all that she's done for me, I owe it her to try to bring her back from another one. Section 31 or not, I'm obligated to turn her away from that life. I love her...I have to try...
*there's a long pause in the recording*
"...I just hope Jack didn't drain that bottle of Romulan ale I gave him while trying to woo our science officer in training. His mother would kill me..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 89625.4
"The Avalon has received her orders for tomorrow from Admiral Arbriel-Kell. We are to lead the Exodus, the Nimitz, and two other starships in an evacuation of one of our colonies ahead of an anticipated assault by the Borg Collective. The colonists number around two thousand, but they in turn are sitting upon secret research facilities developing specialized anti-Borg weapons, including two prototype warships, which in this captain's opinion along with Captain RasTalon's cannot fall into Borg or any threat force's clutches.
"Upon our arrival at the colony, the Avalon will oversee evacuation of the civilians and Exodus will recover the research teams and their materials; the escort vessel Excalibur under the command of XO Twenty-Five and the other ships in our task force will provide cover against the Borg. The colonists will be taken aboard the Avalon's chevron section and once the evacuation is complete, we'll separate the ship. Science officer Maus will command the chevron and initiate a transwarp jump back to Starbase 146 while the stardrive assists the remaining vessels in recovering all remaining assets from the colony and escort the prototypes home. As task force commander, should the Borg force our hand, I am obligated under Admiral Arbriel-Kell's direction to ensure the enemy cannot assimilate anything they can use against us and the use of General Order 24 is authorized in this circumstance. Bottom line, if it comes down to it, I'd rather glass the planet rather than let the Borg steal our best chance at stopping them.
"I know I'm attracting...flack for the plan the admiral, myself, and Captain RasTalon have laid out, but it's the best plan on the table right now. Our people must be saved, our research data against the Borg must either be saved or we must prevent it including the prototype warships from falling into any threat forces' hands, not just the Borg. I just wish Jim saw things my way; unfortunately, he comes off as a dinosaur. A relic of the final years of the Cold War where Starfleet was militarized to the point that exploring strange new worlds was an afterthought and wearing tracts along the Organian Treaty Zone was the order of the day. Perhaps a year ago, before I took command of this ship, I might have found myself agreeing with his stance. But not now...
"The Avalon has offloaded all civilian and non-essential personnel though we'll be proceeding to Vulcan to pick up a few of our own, including Cadet DuCardt. She's about to get another rude awakening to life on active duty..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 89627.9
"The Avalon, the Exodus, the Night Arrow, and the Nimitz were successful in evacuating our colony from the B'Tran Cluster, though not without complications. Around four hundred colonists refused to evacuate and set up camp in one of the research labs slated for evacuation by the Exodus; Captain RasTalon and her crew rescued them and recovered all research material save the prototype vessels, which had been flown out four hours prior to our arrival. Worse, the Borg showed up earlier than expected, causing serious damage to the Arrow and minor damage to the Nimitz and the Avalon's stardrive section. During transwarp evac, two Borg cubes pursued us, but the transwarp conduit was forcibly collapsed at Starbase 146 to prevent an attack."

"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental
"Year 44 has started out much like Year 43 for me: alone and with a lot of explosions. Clarie's gone...again, and the Avalon survived another pounding by the skin of her teeth. I know the crew can tell that I'm not a good place, in spite of my best efforts to hide it and while I'll probably be shoved off the ship to take shore leave, I honestly don't see what good it'll do. I'll just end up coming back to an empty captain's quarters and crisis piled up on top of crisis. All I can do is put up a brave front and hope things get better all around..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 89633.5
"Today started off as...ordinary as it could get. I took the Excalibur to Deep Space 9 to deliver the remains of General Tomalar and Senator Chavek to General tr'Lhaithra, expecting him to take neither. Instead, with a little coaxing he accepted both along with the promise to stick to the Romulan Empire's version of Chavek's demise. I had hoped that maybe he'd be willing to use Chavek's true crimes to effect change in his government, but he seems afraid that if the truth were to get out, it would mean war. Unfortunately, I'm in no position to question his logic.
"Also unfortunately, several hours after my return to Starbase 146, there was an incident in Armstrong's centered around Cadet DuCardt and Ensign D'ree, one of the Exodus' MACOs. Admiral Slavik has issued his punishments to both as per his authority as admiral of this sector block, but in terms of the cadet, said authority only goes so far. Given Ensign D'ree's relationship with the DuCardt's academy squadron CO Commander Ri'orah and the fact that she is close to my nephew, I don't think either of us are unbiased in assessing punishment at the academy or on the Avalon. To the latter, I've ordered the cadet's direct superior on my ship, Lieutenant Alexis Maus, to look into it. If DuCardt is as insubordinate as she's accused of being, regardless of the accusations that were allegedly thrown her way by the ensign, then her time on the Avalon is coming to an end. There are only so many internships available on starships, let alone a ship of the line like the Avalon. For her sake, I hope Lieutenant Maus rules in her favor, otherwise she's off my ship for good.
"And on a person note, I hope DuCardt's...independent streak hasn't rubbed off on my nephew Jack. I don't want his career to be over before he has a chance to start it..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 89657.7
"Upon my return to the Avalon at Risa, we were ordered to the Romulan Neutral Zone by Admiral T'Nae to investigate a mysterious warbird traveling de-cloaked. We intercepted it only to discover it and and a small flotilla of ships accompanying it were under the control of General Solius, the deposed lord regent of the Romulan Star Empire. He claimed to have modified versions of the old Phoenix weapon under his control and demonstrated this capability by destroying a Tal Shiar listening post just within the Imperial border. Our attempts to capture him in order to be prosecuted for war crimes in the Romulan Republic failed and the Avalon retreated before any of his Elachi-modified ships could engage us. Solius didn't just put a shot across the Empire's bow, he fired it right at their midships along the waterline. And he may have just dragged the Federation into his guerrilla war..."

"Due to the reemergence of General Solius, I'm taking the Avalon to New Romulus to address the Republic's government personally. Considering how his last action as lord regent of the Romulan Empire was to attempt to bomb New Romulus out of existence, Proconsul D'Tan needs to be warned lest if Solius is successful in his campaign of revenge against the Tal Shiar he's not inclined to finish the job he tried to start three months ago..."

"The Avalon's returned to Starbase 146 after informing the Romulan Republic of the return of Solius and recovering wounded from a MACO operation on New Romulus. Also, thanks to...Cadet Jack McGinnis of Starfleet Academy, we have sensor telemetry of Solius' new weapon, which I've had Cadet DuCardt pass along to Commander Fearos and Lieutenant Maus. I fear what Solius will do with those weapons when he stops using them against the Tal Shiar..."

"The Avalon arrived in the Donatu Sector to discover that the dispute in question revolved around an Orion, a Ferengi, and a human trade vessel all claiming to have exclusive rights to the lucrative Drozana Run. As it turns out, as far as they knew, they did, however the Orion Syndicate member on Drozana they were all dealing with gave them intentionally one-sided deals in what appears to be an attempt to muscle all three out of business. The Orion and Ferengi captains have vowed revenge while the penniless Captain John Daken has taken refuge on the Avalon lest his irate crew get their hands on him.
"We've resumed our patrol route and will drop Captain Daken off at our next port of call..."

"Captain's Log: Supplemental. Recorded under security lockout Omega 13.
"The Avalon was ordered by Task Force Omega to assist the starship St. Louis in investigating a Tal Shiar base in the Khazan Cluster, home to the wreckage of a Borg Unimatrix vessel that Omega believed was the source of the technology used by the late Senator Chavek to summon another command ship during our attempt to thwart the trade of Jason Hunter for General Tomalar. Two heavily modified Orion vessels, origin unknown, attempted to intervene but were defeated. The St. Louis' crew completed their mission and the wreck of the Borg vessel was scuttled to prevent the Tal Shiar from obtaining any more secrets of the Collective."
"The Avalon suffered minor damage and casualties and is continuing on her patrol for further Borg activity in light of the recent battle at one of our starbases..."

"Note for the record that Lieutenant Commander Mir'ah has now been assigned to the Avalon as ship's astrometrics officer. And furthermore, Alexis Maus has been promoted to the field commission of lieutenant commander on a provisional basis pending her completion of the bridge officer examination. Both are capable officers and will serve the Avalon well at their current positions and ranks.
"Captain's Personal Log: Supplemental. Recorded under security lockout Omega 13.
"Well, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop after last night and sure enough it did. General tr'Lhaithra demanded an audience with me on Deep Space 9, so I took the Excalibur and Al...Commander Maus there to speak with him. He voiced his displeasure over our actions in the Khazan Cluster and while due to orders from Task Force Omega I was required to deny everything even when presented with evidence that the Avalon was there, he seemed to want to bury it lest it strain relations between the Romulan Empire and the Federation further. Perhaps even if I could tell him the Avalon was under orders from Omega, I shouldn't; finding out that a joint operations force run by the Federation, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Republic ordered an attack against an Imperial Romulan target would only make matters worse. And I don't think I endeared myself to him; he threatened that if this happened again, he'd take me out personally. Not the first Imperial Romulan to make that threat...and not the first to fail to carry through with that threat, either...
"And I keep meaning to speak with Thane or Lily about the possible security breach last night. The general's trying to keep this quiet to prevent a war. Less...forward thinking types might not have any qualms about broadcasting our activities all over the quadrant..."

"During the Avalon's survey of the Senex system, our sensors detected an anomaly. A probe was sent to study it and readings indicated that it is a sort of 'window' into another universe, one who's scale is far greater than our own. Our new astrometrics officer named it the 'Sanders Anomaly' in keeping with Caitian tradition. I suppose there are worse names...
