"The Hirogen responsible for the death of Captain Itachi Rin broadcasted another murder today. Starbase 146 traced the signal to a remote region and the Avalon was sent to investigate. The Hirogen had already left, but in his wake was more death and destruction. On a Class P world, the Avalon located a small colony that had been bombarded from orbit; anyone who survived were executed with tetryon weapons in a manner similar to this particular Hirogen's methods. The Avalon remains in orbit until a ship can be sent to engage in recovery and clean-up operations..."

"MACO Sergeant Rex Cody was killed in the line of duty by a life form native to the planet Twycross II. He was patrolling the ruins of the colony destroyed by the Hirogen Alpha who murdered Rin and countless others when the creature emerged from the ice and mauled him, severing him in half. He died before he could be beamed back to the Avalon's sickbay. I've ordered all search parties on the surface of Twycross to return to the Avalon in light of the danger. The starship California is due to arrive in the system in 8 hours where they will finish recovering the bodies of the colonists, retrieve anything useful from the wreckage, and transport the bodies to Starbase 146 to be returned to their next of kin for burial rituals...
"The Hirogen has much to answer for. And he will answer for it..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 90262.07
"At Starbase 146, the Romulan privateer Karis Xereth was attacked by unknown assailants. This caused her employer, Sindari Krowlek, to have a massive emotional breakdown, resulting in her destroying Xereth's ship, threatening the starbase, destroying multiple fighters, and fleeing on course for the Imperial Romulan border. The Avalon and the New Phoenix pursued Krowlek's flagship, the Scimitar-class Scarlet Sinner, however we did not pick up any sign of her by the time we reached the border. The Avalon's conducting a sweep of the border and is monitoring all Imperial channels. If she's about to start something with the Empire, we're definitely going to hear about it..."

"Sindari's gone rogue. Rin's killer Cortellian is still loose. Dr. Whitlock is still MIA. Too many things tugging at me; barely enough time to deal with them all at once. Obviously, with Sindari gone mad and sitting on top of a thalaron weapon, her threat has to take priority. The Avalon's the only ship in the fleet that can stop the Scarlet Sinner one-on-one. And as much as Captain Anson wants to try to talk her down, I fear if he fails he won't be able to pull the trigger if it comes to that point.
"I'm going to be asking a lot from the crew in the coming days. They're used to high stakes; that's what makes them the best in Starfleet. What they're not used to and what I'm not is having to deal with so many high-stakes situations simultaneously..."

"Captain's Personal Log: Stardate 90265.4
"The Avalon returned earlier today to Starbase 146 after a fruitless search for the renegade Sindari. Acting in my capacity as fleet captain of the 146th, I endorsed the recommendation of appointing Captain Rastalon of the starship Exodus to head up our pursuit of the Hirogen known as Cortellian. Captain Rastalon has appointed the starships Dauntless, Everest, and Fox to serve as part of her task force. In regards to Sindari, I offered my best case plan to trap her and bring her in alive. There's a lot of moving parts to this plan and as with any complicated machine, one monkey wrench thrown into the gears could spell disaster. However, as of today, it's the best means of capturing Sindari alive before she can unleash her arsenal against innocent civilians. Because for every life she may take, the desire to capture her unharmed diminishes and the need to destroy her before she takes any more grows...
"...and eight years of war with the Klingons, the True Way, the Borg, the Tal Shiar, the Breen, the Voth, and the Pact have taught me that the adage that a starship captain must be a soldier in addition to being a diplomat and explorer is all too painfully true..."

"Just when I thought our luck had changed with the resolution of Sindari's, things regarding Dr. Whitlock's alleged disappearance has taken an even more bizarre turn. Ensign Pulver of Starfleet Medical who had been assisting me in trying to find our former CMO sent a message requesting to meet in the SPR-5195 system tomorrow, claiming he had information about Whitlock that he wasn't comfortable sharing over subspace. However, his message ended with his runabout suddenly going to red alert.
"Inquiries to all ships in the area of the SPR-5195 system hasn't revealed any sign of the runabout and considering Pulver was still a day out, the search area is quite vast. The Avalon will depart Starbase 146 tonight to join those efforts..."

"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"The Avalon responded to a distress call from the True Way warship Ormuk, who had been testing an old experimental quantum singularity drive that opened a rift to fluidic space and exposed the ship to pathogen that began eating the ship's hull, possibly Undine in origin. Most of the ship's senior crew members had been killed; the Avalon beamed the survivors aboard where I interviewed the ship's ranking officer, Gil Talak. He provided valuable intelligence on the Pact, including their next planned attack called a 'Swarm Operation' involving the surviving members. The True Way, Garidians, and Koloth plan a blitzkrieg style attack involving dreadnaughts supplied by the Tal Shiar and five Kulinor-class Cardassian vessels like the Ormuk; the only target of this attack that's confirmed are shipyards controlled by the Romulan Star Navy. The Ormuk herself succumbed to whatever was afflicting it and the rift was sealed by the efforts of XO Twenty-Five and Science Officer Maus.
"But what may be the most intriguing revelation was a clue as to the identity of the Marshal according to Talak. Gul Tarel believes the Marshal to be Cardassian, Thot Pran thought he was Breen, Koloth a Klingon; this suggests the Marshal is perhaps multiple proxies for one individual or one individual capable of appearing as multiple species. Talak implied that the leader of the Children of Tellus, Solius, knows more about the truth behind the Marshal and I for one am very interested in what he has to say..."

"The Avalon's return to Starbase 146 to question Solius was delayed by an anomaly that appeared at the base and forced a halt in all incoming traffic except for emergency purposes. Upon the anomaly's collapse, we achieved standard orbit and I beamed over to the base to find that the anomaly discharged...a ship from an obscure piece of speculative fiction circa 400 years ago on Earth. I and my crew weren't there at the craft's arrival, so we only have the starbase's crew's word to accept, but I am forced to consider that the logical answer is that someone is playing us. Q, most likely. He was, after all, present when another being who has roots in old human popular culture made an appearance on the Avalon.
"Can't worry about such wild and possibly unreal events right now. Solius knows who or what the Marshal is and I intended to convince him to give us an answer..."

"Captain's Log: Stardate 90278.3
"On Starbase 146 I confronted Solius about the Marshal and his plans for the Pact. He confirmed my crew's suspicions that he was a shape-shifter, but then revealed just how worse it really is. The Marshal is an Undine, using its shape-shifting and telepathic abilities to use the Pact's forces to wage a guerrilla war to weaken the powers of this quadrant ahead of a full-scale invasion. I believe they're set to make their move in 10 days, with the True Way's Kulinor-class vessels serving as a means for the Undine to enter the Alpha Quadrant without having to traverse the Iconian Gateways.
"Solius also mentioned that a sizable portion of the Children of Tellus now serve the Marshal as its personal guard. The rest of his forces were given an order just prior to his surrender: 'Fly to Reichenbach.' Obviously another Sherlock Holmes reference. But to what? And even though we now know the Pact's endgame, do we even have enough time to stop it...?"

"Captain's Personal Log: Stardate 90281.8
"...Rin's killer is dead, killed at the hand of the deranged Sindari. And yet...I take no pleasure in that. Cortellian's death may have ensured that anyone higher up in his organization will never be brought to justice in a Federation court of law. And I cannot help but feel for S'Taev; first he loses his wife due to Hobus, then Karis due to her affiliation with the Tal Shiar, and now Sindari because of her madness. I've only had my heart broken twice in my lifetime, both times by the same woman over the span of 21 years. I'm not sure what keeps a man going after all that pain...
"...But I can't keep dwelling on that. I spoke with Tiana about the Pact and their Undine overlords and I believe she is right; the imperative is to track down Gul Tarel before the 22nd and find out where his five Kulinors will be activating their singularity drives. In all likelihood, the True Way has no idea what they are about to unleash and if we fail to stop them, the Undine will have a direct route to this part of the galaxy..."

"The Avalon intercepted a distress call from a runabout piloted by Dr. Adriana Whitlock and Ensign Jenilee Pulver of Starfleet Medical from the Toron system. Upon our arrival, we discovered two Undine frigates emerging from a fluidic space rift and a vessel claiming to be the USS Katana when in actuality was her Terran counterpart. The Avalon engaged the Undine while the Excalibur and the Katana headed for the runabout. We destroyed one enemy ship and the Katana rammed the second; Whitlock and Pulver were recovered alive though severely injured.
"The Avalon suffered minor damage in the battle and the rift collapsed. We've resumed our patrol route and will return to Starbase 146 in time for Admiral Starsinger's fleet-wide meeting..."

"...this isn't the first time I've admitted in this log that the odds aren't exactly in our favor. The Undine are coming in force, perhaps at the spheres, perhaps in the very heart of the Federation. Our forces are going to be spread thin; our best tactical upgrades for our ships and ground forces are over a month away from being ready for deployment. But all the weapons and plans in the quadrant won't matter if the talks fail and we cannot present a united front to the enemy.
"I, as always, keep my qualms to myself for the sake of the crew, but for some reason this time I don't have them. Maybe all it took was for someone to tell me that even the smallest actions of a starship captain can make a difference in their lives. Sometimes being told what you do matters is all you need to give you hope..."

"Captain's Log: Supplemental
"During our patrol of the Sphere's contested zone, we encountered the fortress vessel of Grand Marshal Siyi of the Voth. He revealed to us that the Undine had infiltrated the Voth's ranks and were responsible for the state of civil war that began late last year. He also said that High Inquisitor Oggra, who may or may not be Undine, has commandeered additional fortress vessels and is intent on using them to seize control of the Sphere. In light of both threats, Siyi and I reached a tentative truce. While this doesn't fully end the conflict between Joint Command and the Voth, it's a step in the right direction.
"And almost as soon as that conflict was put to rest did we receive a distress call from Earth Spacedock. The Undine had used the Iconian gate in the Jenolan Sphere to launch an attack; the Avalon and her task force made their way out of the Solanae Sphere only to receive orders from the Enterprise to proceed to Qo'noS upon our return to the Beta Quadrant. We set a course for the Klingon homeworld and all available ships from the 146th responded.
"Upon our arrival, we found the Enterprise, Voyager, Bortasqu', Lleiset, and other KDF vessels waging a pitched battle with the Undine. One of the Pact's Kulinor-class vessels dropped out of warp and opened a rift to fluidic space that allowed a massive planet killer to arrive. Captain Va'kel Shon of the Enterprise piloted his ship's Aquarius-class destroyer on a collision course with the planet killer. The bulk of the 146th Fleet cleared a path for him and Voyager under the command of Admiral Tuvok beamed Shon to safety prior to the collision that destroyed the planet killer.
"Impressed by the Federation's willingness to prevent the destruction of Qo'noS, Chancellor J'mpok invited many Starfleet officers including myself, Captain Shon, Admiral Jorel Quinn, and many others from the 146th to the Great Hall of the High Council to celebrate our victory...and something I wasn't quite sure I'd live to see until today. However, just as the chancellor and Admiral Quinn were about to announce this rather dramatic turn of events, a gateway opened and a being similar to the legends of the Iconians emerged. Apparently our victory over their Undine pawns caught their attention and while six members of the High Council rushed to apprehend...her, the Iconian vaporized them and warned us not to get their attention again.
"But, just as the Undine's goals to divide us failed, so too did the Iconians. J'mpok and Quinn announced an end to the war between United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire; the devastating conflict that has lasted for eight years is now completely over. We're not allies, but...we're hell of a lot closer than we were a day ago...
"The Avalon remains in orbit of Qo'noS to provide aid to the Klingons while the rest of the fleet's been dispersed, ostensibly to provide aid to Earth. We paid a high price for peace today, but standing in the capital of a nation who for the last eight years tried to kill me made me realize that peace is worth some costs.
"...some costs..."
